When James Hoffa, president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, looks at the Tea Party today, he flashes back to 1964 and sees the John Birch Society.
"The Tea Party, these right wingers are basically the modern-day John Birch Society," he told U.S. News. "They are being extremists."
The John Birch Society gained traction in the earl 60s with its vehemently anti-communist rhetoric and distrust in government.
Hoffa says just like in the early 60s when the John Birch Society pushed for Barry Goldwater, who was the more conservative candidate, to be the Republican presidential nominee, the Tea Party has forced its the GOP further to the right.
"It's just like in 1964 when Goldwater ran against Johnson and the John Birch society was calling the shots."

It is not extreme to believe in, protect, and defend the U.S. Constitution.
“After the event, Hoffa told ABC News that conservatives and Tea Party activists want to roll the clock back to about 1900. More like 1776 to 1790.
Is there anyone with less moral authority than a union leader? YES. A second generation union leader.
Somewhere in America there is a cement foundation being poured that could serve two purposes.
Most people under the age of, oh, 55 to 60, have NO idea who the JBS was in American politics in the pre 1970s era.
He might as well be talking about martians in US politics. Younger voters, especially liberals, will be saying Huh? What?
Or worse they will look up the JBS on the net, read what they stand for and agree with most poi ts and this will erode the libertarian elements out of the dim party..
Was Hoffa trying to insult someone?!
The John Birch Society is an American political advocacy group that supports anti-communism, limited government, a constitutional republic and personal freedom. It has been described as radical right-wing.
The society upholds an originalist interpretation of the U.S. Constitution, which it identifies with fundamental Christian principles, seeks to limit governmental powers, and opposes wealth redistribution, and economic interventionism. It not only opposes the practices it terms collectivism, totalitarianism, and communism, but socialism and fascism as well, which it asserts is infiltrating US governmental administration.
Well, HELL, YES, count me as not only a Tea Party member but also a BIRCHER! I fail to see the insult, Hoffa!
It sure beats being a lying corrupt mobster!
Jimmy Hoffa Jr had these words at an Obama campaign rally:
We got to keep an eye on the battle that we face: The war on workers. And you see it everywhere, it is the Tea Party. And you know, there is only one way to beat and win that war. The one thing about working people is we like a good fight. And you know what? Theyve got a war, they got a war with us and theres only going to be one winner. Its going to be the workers of Michigan, and America. Were going to win that war, Jimmy Hoffa Jr. said to a heavily union crowd.
President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Lets take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong, Hoffa added.
The Tea Party is nowhere near as “conservative” as the John Birch Society..
However HOFFA is fully in sync with the communist party..
But then... if he had any sense he wouldn’t even BE a democrat..
Unions are transmission belts for communism.
- V. Lenin
So true. I was a Bircher in the sixties. I have had to hold my nose and vote most of the time. I have finally come to realize that every time I have done that I have given the liberals the thumbs up sign. Hopefully the Tea Party will not make the same mistake I know I won’t.
Since the teamsters signed off on the Consent Decree the DOJ effectively runs the union under a federal trusteeship
Hoffa Lite doesn't sneeze without an OK from DOJ
James Riddle Hoffa was the father ... James P. Hoffa is there now after Government stooge Ron Carey was caught swaping cash for campaign contributions with leftist groups like Project Vote, ACORN, Rich Trumpka and Andy Stern ....
.
Well both groups are pro America, unlike the DNC.
And Sen. Joe McCarthy was smeared, too. Not only does Ann Coulter recognize this, but Ayn Rand made the similiar point earlier -- except Ayn Rand mentioned the smear against Sen. McCarthy (McCarthyism) only occasionally.

In February 2011 he characterized Walkers modest proposal that state workers shoulder a small percentage of the costs for their healthcare plans and pensions as a vindictive attack that was part of a union-busting campaign and a one-sided class war.
So, to Hoffa, et al, it's fine for these workers to be forced to put down "$50 or $20" to support a democrat, but a small percentage toward their own healthcare plans is "vindictive", etc.
Talk about greedy...
And we see Teamsters and Communists as one in the same.
Well said; I’ll keep that in mind!
Amen, I’ve been saying the same thing.
Most people under the age of, oh, 55 to 60, have NO idea who the JBS was in American politics in the pre 1970's era. He might as well be talking about martians in US politics.
