Maryland Democratic Gov. Martin O'Malley said Sunday that Americans are not better off under President Obama than they were four years ago, a somewhat startling admission that Republicans and Mitt Romney immediately pounced on.
On CBS's "Face the Nation" Sunday morning, host Bob Schieffer asked O'Malley if he can "honestly say that people are better off today than they were four years ago."
"No," O'Malley said, "but that's not the question of this election."
"The question," he continued, "without a doubt, we are not as well off as we were before George Bush brought us the Bush job losses, the Bush recession, the Bush deficits, the series of desert wars, charged for the first time to credit cards, the national credit card..." "George Bush is not on the ballots," Schieffer quipped.
The first sentence was good enough for the Romney campaign. It's a somewhat baffling admission because the Obama campaign has explicitly avoided giving a "Yes" or "No" answer to the question during the campaign in hopes of avoiding a bad soundbite.
That was the case on both ABC's "This Week" and "Fox News Sunday," where advisers David Plouffe and David Axelrod both avoided a direct answer.

O YES IT IS!! And you just answered correctly.
CUT!...it’s a wrap...Thanks Gov O’Malley
BUSH’S FAULT!
Obama told us 4 years ago that he had all the answers. Now he tells us that he didn’t even uderstand the questions.
Maybe they can say that the question is RACIST!
What was the average unemployment rate during the Bush 43 administration and the Obama administration? What was the average price of a gallon of gasoline during the Bush 43 administration and the Obama administration? What was the number of people on food stamps at the end of the Bush 43 administration compared to right now? What was the number of people on disablity at the end of the Bush 43 administration compared to right now?
He doesn’t WANT it to be that question... but it is.
By the way when is somebody going to run against this O’Malley cat?
a Rat congress
obama/left-wing/donk 2012 campaign slogan-”It’s Bush’s fault.”
The socialists speaks, and blurts out the truth. Waiting for Obama’s “it’s all about fairness” canned comment.
Forget the unemployment rate. I would concentrate the number of job on Jan 19, 2009 to today. If the stories I have been reading are correct, there are about 5 million less jobs. Romney should pound on that.
I agree with the rest of your list. This election has so much low hanging fruit it should be easy to have a landslide. You just need the right guy with the spine to go for Obama’s political throat.
Glass-Steagal repeal by congress caused 80% of the job losses. 20% were caused by the scare of Obama being elected in Bushes last quarter.
SAY IT!!!!! SCREAM IT!!!!!!
Make a banner and fly it around the country. Tattoo it on Paul Ryan's chest and make him a Playgirl centerfold. Meme it! Tweet it! Facebook it! Hashtag it! Google bomb it!...
The budget mess Obama inherited? The one he always complains about?
...belonged to none other than that babbling boob speaker Pelosi!!!!! She's the budget busting diva...the mother of all unfunded stimulus spending. And we're still operating under her bloated budget.
SHE'S GUILTY!!!! GUILTY!!!! GUILTY!!!! GUILTY!!!! GUILTY!!!!
Duh.
Oh, THAT was it.
Me too!
