A talk-show host this weekend on MSNBC, widely considered a heavily left-leaning news network, suddenly erupted into a screaming rant after one of her guests suggested Obama wasnt acknowledging the risks entrepreneurs take in Americas economy. What is riskier than living poor in America? Seriously! host Melissa Harris-Perry shouted on her self-titled show yesterday. I am sick of the idea that being wealthy is risky!
Harris-Perry was discussing welfare reform and economic class mobility with a panel of guests.
One guest, Nancy Giles, described as a social commentator, suggested it was public education and low-cost health care that enabled people to move out of lower economic classes.
But Monica Mehta, described as a business/finance expert, countered that class mobility is fueled by entrepreneurs taking risks, and began to imply that Obamas You didnt build that speech was indicative of anti-entrepreneurial bias.
But Mehta didnt have the opportunity to finish her thought.
What is riskier than living poor in America? Seriously! What in the world is riskier than being a poor person in America? the host interrupted. I live in a neighborhood where people are shot on my street corner. I live in a neighborhood where people have to figure out how to get their kid into school because maybe it will be a good school and maybe it wont. I am sick of the idea that being wealthy is risky! No! There is a huge safety net that whenever you fail, well catch you and catch you and catch you! Being poor is what is risky. We have to create a safety net for poor people, and when we wont because they happen to look different from us, it is the pervasive ugliness. We cannot do that!

“Being a poor person anywhere else in the world.”
Or a rich man amongst collectivists.
Two days after the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, Harris-Perry tweeted that the abandoned house in the 7th ward that she and her husband had bought and were restoring was destroyed during Hurricane Isaac
GETTING WEALTHY is risky, you welfare-queen idiot!
Excellent answer, but aren’t we overlooking another point? This imbecile doesn’t even understand the conversation. Being poor is not taking a risk. It is simply the state of having little money. The risk-taking the panel is discussing is when individuals may risk being poor by betting their life savings or going deeply in debt in order to bring a product or service to market. They could remain comfortably in their economic circumstances, live off government largesse and avoid any risk that they may improve their lot or the lot and lives of their fellow citizens. Instead they take a supreme risk of financial ruin to make things better. Sitting on your @ss taking handouts is not a risk at all.
I lived near the 7th ward for many years and drove through it every day. There are some very nice homes in that area. I doubt that she lost her home during Isaac. I heard that 2 or 3 empty shell houses fell down in the city.
New Orleans has some beautiful upscale neighborhoods as do all cities.
But the crime rate in the city as a whole is very high.
I don't know. Living poor in Mexico? North Korea? China? Russia? Central America? South America? Seriously?
I think it was DeSousa who I once heard say that he had asked an immigrant friend why he liked America. The friend said it was because, in America, even the poor people are fat.
I didn’t create it but I don’t think whoever did would mind if you showed it to your lib friends. I posted it on my Facebook page and I’m sure the Obamabots on my friends list were peeved. :-)
Exactly!!! The next question should be: Who is in charge of your city/state - the odds are it is a Democrat!!
If we lived in a culture that respected life and supported the law, perhaps people wouldn’t be shot on her street corner.
Virtually all cities are RAT-ruled.
Yes, you are sick.
In MHO, comment of the day.
What in the world is riskier than being a poor person in America?
Being a conservative.
“This is the Republicans’ fault...how?”
Good question. Maybe the folks should have
a talk with the Democrat mayor and Democrat
city council put into power by them.
She's too stupid to discuss the subject, and sadly, the last to know.
Today when I was in the office working on my Sunday afternoon I didn't see Obama there doing any work.
What if we gave cash for each abortion instead of paying for live-born "vermin". It sounds bad but I'll bet it would be popular, cost less and abate rather than exacerbate the problem of "vermin".
