Mitt Romney's Character
Townhall.com ^ | August 31, 2012 | Guy Benson

Posted on 09/01/2012 4:05:35 AM PDT by Kaslin

If Barack Obama and David Axelrod had their druthers, every American voter would have a certain impression of Mitt Romney:  An exceedingly wealthy, secretive, greedy robber baron, using his substantial means to identify and exploit small businesses -- sucking them dry of capital, bankrupting them, and laying off all the hard-working employees, leaving a trail of human misery and destruction in his wake.  After distributing those pink slips, he cackles and rubs his hands together while depositing his obscene profits into his off-shore bank account somewhere, then it's on to the next victim.  This is the cartoon liberals have painted of Romney, spending tens of millions of dollars on negative ads.  It's mean-spirited fantasy.  Yes, Mitt Romney built an exceptional private sector career.  Americans tend to celebrate that sort of thing.  But he's also a faithful, honorable, compassionate family man whose generosity and kindness hasn't gotten nearly enough attention, at least until last night.  Three speeches during the closing session of the Republican National Convention shed light on the private deeds and values of the party's nominee for president.  I'd bet that the Romney's weren't thrilled by the prospect of airing their private (squeaky-clean) laundry for all the world to see because bragging about doing the right thing feels unseemly.  But given the assault on Mitt Romney's character and the consequential nature of the election, they relented and decided to allow others to sketch out those elements of Mitt's life on his behalf.  Kate touched on one of these speeches earlier.  I cannot possibly share these vignettes any better than the speakers themselves.  The hall was silent, and few eyes remained dry during these extraordinary testimonials:

RNC 2012: Church Members Share Moving Tale of Son's Tragic Death

RNC 2012: Church Member Says Mitt Romney Devotes Life to 'Quietly Serving Others'

My eyes welled up again just posting these videos.  I couldn't help by feel pangs of profound compassion for these families, and genuine gladness that a man as fine as Mitt Romney was active in their lives to comfort and help them during their struggles.  Where is the monstrous, avaricious, uncaring money robot we're always warned about in these anecdotes?  He's nowhere to be found because he doesn't exist.  This truth transcends partisanship.  Another speaker at the convention was Jane Edmonds -- a member of Governor Romney's Massachusetts cabinet and a lifelong liberal Democrat.  She chose to speak out for her former boss because of his integrity, not his platform:

Any potential Romney voters that don’t cast a vote strengthen Obama’s chances for re-election.

Why does NO ONE say...

Any disgruntled previous OBAMA voters that don’t cast a vote strengthen Mitt's chances for election.

Either we believe what he says now and the statements he has made about his changes, or we don’t.

Actions have consequences regardless of the motives behind such actions. By voting for a third party or refraining from voting the consequences are allowing a totally amoral individual who is bent on destroying our country to be elected for a second term. I assume you will be at peace with such a consequence. I wonder what ethic or moral approves of refraining from acting to prevent the most evil from prevailing.

not what they say he is concerning abortion, gay marriage, etc., etc.

That is different than your next line in which you say he's changed.

In other words, you are acknowledging that those of us who reject his candidacy do so on political principle, that his record is clear, his recent reversals notwithstanding.

Now, do I understand why you are supporting him instead of Obama. Sure I do. You believe he is the better of the two, so you support him. I can see that, and I did the same with McCain.

However, I intend to be the gadfly, the "feet in the fire holder", the guy who is the fly in the ointment.

So far as I'm concerned, Romney is his liberal governing record and he is his recent advocacy of abortion, Romneycare, and homosexualism record, and he is not his campaign created image.

You are willingly propagandizing for a President Obama campaigning the is for gay marriage and the after birth abortion of children.

God have mercy on your soul. You are seriously damaging it with your rabid, unthinking hatred for Romney.

That was none responsive to the topic and to that valid post, it was merely an attack, the thread is about Mitt Romney’s character.

If he wins...and I am going to do everything I can to help, and pray God in Heaven for the sake of my kids and grandkids that he does...we will find out.

If he does, I feel very strongly based on his own very clearly written commitments, and based on the clear indications of his good heart as referenced by the many people who have spoken regarding the same, as well as those very staunch conservatives who have spoken with him, campaigned with him, worked with him and now come away vouching for him, that a huge turnaround is going to occur in America and one that is as much, if not more, for the good as Obama’s has been for the bad.

I pray that is so, and will work not only for Romney/Ryan, but for th House and Senate candidates to ensure it as well.

Then we will find out.

At least we have that opportunity. If Obama carries the day, we have no such hope or chance for that type of turnaround.

Michelle Bachmann would have been fine or Rick Santorum or Newt Gingrich or Herman Cain or even Rick Perry and, mjost of all, Sarah Palin. And NO, it does not matter who any of them say I should vote for. Do you imagine me an excessive perfectionist for rejecting Mittler, Jon Huntsman, and Ron Paul. If so, tooooo bad! I don’t regard myself as overly picky. It is my vote and the GOP will never get it again without EARNING it the old fashioned way by nominating acceptable candidates. Don’t like that? Tough! And I won’t be alone. The GOP-E can take Mittler and stuff him where the sun shineth not.

You are willingly campaigning for a President Romney; not giving, apparently, a rat's ass whether his religion is a heresy or not, and ONLY worrying about the fate of THIS nation and not about the souls of others.
