Akin's spokesman Ryan Hite confirmed that some members of Akin's campaign staff, and some volunteers, have received threatening emails, some of which assert their careers might be ruined if they stay with Akin.
A source close to Akin provided the Beacon a copy of one such email that allegedly came from a GOP committeeperson in central Missouri. The senders name had been blacked out.
Many within the Republican Party have noticed your energetic and passionate work with Todd Akins Senate campaign, the note read. You are young, well spoken, and likeable. I have spoken with many other state committeemen and women and there is a consensus among those who know of you that you may very well be a rising star within the Missouri GOP. But not if you stay on Todd Akins failing campaign.
The note continued, I do not want to see your future in Missouri politics tarnished, and if you continue to support Mr. Akins bid for Senate by working on his campaign, the MRP will have no choice but to refuse support for any future political endeavors you may have."
A spokesman for the Missouri Republican Party condemned such a note, and said party leaders did not condone such activities.
None of the more than 2,800 Republican committee members across the state has the authority to speak on behalf of the Missouri Republican Party, said state party spokesman Jonathon Prouty. We cannot verify the authenticity of this unsourced email, but we do know that it was absolutely not authorized or sent by the MRP. The content of this email does not in any way reflect the views of the Missouri Republican Party, and we strongly condemn this type of politics.
Akin spokesman Hite said the campaign would not comment on its reaction to the emails or that of staff who have received them. But he added, Were all still here.
Akin wins and starts eating Rino’s alive.
Akin is pretty good at apologizing for this stupid behaviour.
They want him out cause he harmed, possibly fatally, his ability to win the election. Believe me that’s the only reason and the only thing they are thinking about. But hey grand conspiracy theories are more fun than the cold truth.
New PPP poll:
McCrapskull 45 Akin 44
So maybe he can win and I hope so cause he won’t quit with polls like that. He’ll need some damn money though.
Powder..patch..ball FIRE!
I have always been impressed with Rep. Akins integrity, pro -life, 2nd amendment conservative stands.
Did I do a facepalm? yeah,
Todd has deep support in his district and surrounding STL. He has tons of support in the central and SW mo.
Clair has what is left in STL and KC, Nw. MO and what they can cheat with.
This week in STL market Clair actually ran an ad touting herself including how she had stood up to Obama.
Dems have already seen the poll numbers and are running scared.
I’ll vote for him in November.
Only those that voted for Romney because he is the republican nominee, not pro-lifers.
Talking out of both sides of your mouth suits you well.
You really are not paying attention.
Many of us were/are furious with Todd Akin because the U.S. Senate seat was his to lose. He had it in the bag if he just stayed focused, disciplined and on message.
He got lazy and gave a stupid, scientifically “crazy” answer to a deadly serious question and came off looking like a kooky idiot. Not only did he make an ass of himself he tainted the entire conservative and pro-life movement. And by extention jeopardized our chances of winning the Senate. He also took the entire Romney campaign off message for a week while every Republican in the country had to answer questions about “legitimate rape” for an entire two weeks. That is why we were so furious.
I still think he should step aside because I want to defeat Senator McCaskill. However, if he is adament about staying in the race, I hope he wins and I will be the first to congratulate him. But I still think he has unnecessarily jeopardized the chances of conservatives from winning a seat in the Senate.
Get over your anger. Todd blew it, big time. By some miracle if he wins I will be thoroughly happy that McCaskill has been defeated. In the meantime grow up and quit mischaracterizing our sincere disappointment with the Akin campaign.
I understand perfectly.
You and others broke the 11th Commandment from the outset.
You oppose Akin unless he wins. Got it.
Get over yourself.
Stalinists. Mafiosi.
This nonsense needs to stop NOW.
re: “IF Akin loses MO it is because of Rove, Coulter and etc for jumping the gun and jumping ship.”
= = = = = = = = = = = = =
If Akin loses it is because of Akin.
With respect, Doug, tell that to some ABOs who won't stop accusing those who disagree with them being Obama supporters. Sauce for the goose.
Of course, they are not Obama supporters. What I have tried to point out is that voting your conscience is fine, but you have to be prepared for the consequences. In California, I do not have to vote for Romney because California doesn’t matter. I may or may not vote for him. In a swing state, I would certainly vote for him. But I wouldn’t like it, and I will be out in the street fighting him where he is wrong. Give me the bullhorn. A vote for a 3rd party or skipping the vote at the top of the ticket is effectively a half vote for Obama.
Some of us believe, with very good reason, that Obama is going to collapse the economy and finish what he started in his first 3.5 years -— destroy this nation and its place in the world. We have never had anyone like him. Can those who hate Mormons and think there is no difference live with the consequences of Obama and four more years to complete the destruction? For those who hate Romney and watch our nation be destroyed over another four years, I will tell you to STFU. (You in general....not you specifically)
Regarding anyone making the threats as described in the article, I want to know who they are. There should be consequences. Akin should name them.
The issue is that you don't "have to" vote for anyone, anywhere, for any manufactured reason. But I do think Akin should name the source as well. However, it may be the case that he doesn't want to start another firestorm, for which I certainly wouldn't blame him. We also don't know that Akin hasn't gone through party backchannels to name the source of the note too.
With regard to your second comment, you also are no doubt aware that there are large numbers of people on this site who won't vote for Romney and could care less about his Mormonism. Some of us just don't like leftists, regardless of which party they claim to represent.
I understand the issue of leftist or Mormon and appreciate that Romney is opposed on policy by many.
Again, vote conscience but live with the result. The result I see is collapsed economy, the Middle East blowing up because we have no leadership, energy prices skyrocketing because we are not allowed to exploit our own resources, food shortages and riots because crops are not getting to the stores, runaway inflation, a crackdown on freedom of the internet, shutdown of so called “hate right wing radio” with the “fairness doctrine,” 5 million new illegals as RAT voters, martial law, and total government control of our lives.
