It's rare that a low-budget documentary becomes a genuine blockbuster, but conservative firebrand Dinesh D'Souza's controversial new film, "2016: Obama's America," is one of the hottest tickets at the box office right now.
"I'm overwhelmed," D'Souza said. "This is my first venture into film territory."
The film is now showing in more than 1,000 theaters, and that number is expected to double by Friday, which would put the movie's release on par with a major Hollywood blockbuster. Last weekend, "2016" was already earning more money per screen than "The Bourne Legacy" and "The Expendables 2" -- combined. The film has grossed an estimated $10.5 million to date, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com.

"To me Michael Moore is a bit like the federal government -- he's big, fat and out of control," he said, laughing. "I'm a little more like the private sector, lean and nimble."

You're right about the books etc. too. I bought Mike Gallagher's "50 Things Liberals Love to Hate" and I've been reading through it in my spare time. As you say, nothing particularly new in there for anyone that reads FR and/or listens to his radio show. It is an interesting organization - holding up 50 specific examples with text that follows-up on the more general reason liberals hate X, Y, or Z. He is a good writer and it is entertaining as well as being informative.
I had never bought a "political" book before (had several given to me by family members). Heck, I had never bothered to watch coverage of a national political convention before last night either. But this election is so important for the course of our Country I feel I have to get better informed and more involved.
Well I guess the MSM will now have to stop pretending they never heard of this film?
In my theater EVERY seat was taken except for the very front row where the super size screen just overwhelms you. The show was followed by a standing "O".
playing in Providence....go see?
Strongly encourage that you go and take everyone you can. The “Anti-Colonialism” clearly explains Obama’s mindset as well as the the selection and actions of such appointees as Van Jones. What is more telling and eye opening are the comments concerning the Middle East and our own “self-destructive” attitude as a nuclear power. Four more years of Obama, especially if he gets a supportive Congress, and the US is lost as an economic and nuclear powerhouse. Consider this, then look at the rest of the world and ask if this will create a better world.
God bless you, “Thunder now awake”! :)!
It would be great for a condensed version that spells things out a bit more to be released in selected television buys or in DVD format
the movie was ok but I knew everything he touched on thanks to FR
I hadn't paid much attention to the talk about it because who knew it'd ever show in my little podunkville. Color me greatly suprised that it did so it may come to a theater near you, too.
In Japan? Highly doubt it.. 99% of people here don’t even understand their OWN politics.. they vote for the best looking poster (and loudest sponsoring van that drives by 30 times every hour for 5 months X( )
If nothing else.. I will see if I can find a REAL download on torrent sites.. :p
Oh yes! We’ve been to the movies there several times!
Freepers need to go to IMDB and rate the movie. It is a 5.0 out of 10 right now and I am sure many votes and comments are from dems who have not seen the movie.
I don’t think that if ALL FReepers went there to try to correct the score it would help.. That place is a cesspool of libs/socialists :/
I hate reading the comments on movies there because it is so full of hate and anger :p
I just came back from a screening. Its a fascinating look at Obamas early family life, college career, and how the associations that he developed during those periods shape his policy decisions. The most startling things about Obama come from the mans own mouth.
The birth certificate issue, his Muslim Faith, and his days with the Choom Gang arent even hinted at. (I think the famous photo of Barack in the straw fedora and smoking what looks like a joint is only seen once or twice for a couple of seconds.) The movie just deals with the bare facts of his life and time as President. Its very even-handed but it certainly strips away the polish and veneer that Obama and his allies in the media have layered over him.
Michael Moore can only _dream_ of being this fair to his subjects. And if Romney wins by a point or two, he should certainly thank dSouza for an honest assessment of his opponent.
If you havent, GO SEE IT!
