President Barack Obama came to office during an economic crisis, as he has reminded us a time or two. Those were very tough days, and any fair measure of his record has to take that into account. My home state voted for President Obama. When he talked about change, many people liked the sound of it, especially in Janesville, where we were about to lose a major factory.
A lot of guys I went to high school with worked at that GM plant. Right there at that plant, candidate Obama said: I believe that if our government is there to support you this plant will be here for another hundred years. Thats what he said in 2008.
Well, as it turned out, that plant didnt last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day. And thats how it is in so many towns today, where the recovery that was promised is nowhere in sight.
The Washington Post, and a host of other liberal media outlets, are calling this passage misleading because the Janesville plant closed before the president was inaugurated. The Post is dead wrong. Here are the facts:1. On February 13, 2008 Obama said in Janesville : I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years.
2. In June 2008 GM announced that the Janesville plant would stop production of medium-duty trucks by the end of 2009, and stop production of large SUVs in 2010 or sooner.
3. In October 2008 Obama doubled down on his promise to keep Janesville plant open: As president, I will lead an effort to retool plants like the GM facility in Janesville so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs in Wisconsin and all across America.
4. In December 2008 GM idled production of GM SUVs at the Janesville plant. Medium-duty truck assembly continued.
5. In April 2009, four months after Obama was inaugurated, GM idled production of medium-duty trucks.
6. In September 2011, more than two years after Obama was inaugurated, GM reiterates that Janesville plant is on stand by status. Auto industry observer David Cole, tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel it would be premature to say the Janesville plant will never reopen.
6. Today the GM facility in Janesville still has not been retooled so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs, as Obama promised.
Did you read the OP’s post?

It was not closed down before he was in office.
It would make a great ad if Romney would do it. Another great ad would be to use Ryan’s fact that all the people standing in the unemployment line would reach across the continent. Start on a close up of a “broken” man. Then pan out showing the line getting longer and longer until you see the entire map showing the line from Florida to California.
The plant closed April 23, 2009. Obama had been president three months.
I had on PMSNBC last night just to hear their take on the evening.
The “crew” (Chrissy, Maddow, Sharpton and all) had fact checked Ryan’s statement on the plant closing and SWORE it closed in Dec 2008, and calling Ryan an unabashed “goody-two-shoes” liar to the American people.
It was BUSH’S FAULT because it close in 2008 and NOT Dear Reader’s fault and how dare Ryan lie like that on natioal TV.
They bashed Scott Walker with it while the microphone Ryan used was still warm.
They (PMSNBC)were STILL calling him a liar today less than 2 hours ago.
That info NEEDS to be thrown in their face FAST AND NOW!!!!
They were even saying the same thing this morning on CNN,(between 8-9cst) calling Ryan’s plant closing story “unfactual” because it closed in 2008.
This thread shows Ryan was right.
The dems will have an add on it running nation wide before the day is out.
It needs to be STOPPED.
There has to be video of Obama there giving a speech
Hopefully the RNC is getting the videos as I type.
PING!!!!!!!
Obama video in April 2009 giving the speech!!!!!

Ping to #28!!!
ahh i see. just the SUV’s. my bad
The point, taken context, was that Obama’s stimulus FAILED. It did not do what he promised it would do. Didn’t you watch the speech?
“ahh i see. just the SUVs. my bad”
Actually, you don’t see! Those SUVs and Pickups are still being built in a plant in Monterrey, Mexico. I know, I own one! Not withstanding the long list of worthless turds who ran GM in the past twenty years or more, they are not so stupid as not to realize that they can’t buck the UAW successfully with the government we have today, so they are moving production to foreign countries including China. As for Ford, they’ve announced recently that they have built their last production facility in the US. The UAW is now just a bunch of Shaker “women” with no means of survival . If they are lucky, the current employees will get something when they retire, but my guess is that they will be “retired early,” and as a consequence, get much less. UAW buh bye!
Did you catch how rudely Chrissy and Maddow interrupted the interviews with Walker and Secretary Rice? ANDREA, ANDREA, A LITTLE FACT CHECK HERE . . .
I almost threw something at the TV. They ALL were NASTY!! Did you hear Sharpton on the “Ryan’s a liar on the GM plant closing” to Walker??
They’re also building in Russia soon. I’m aware they’ve been moving jobs overseas. Obama can’t say a word because we own their stock. Maybe after the election he can scold them but he doesn’t want their stock any lower before the election.
I went to MSNBC to see what the enemy was saying. Schultz, Matthews, Maddoux, and Sharpton....all accosted Gov. Brewer and Gov. Walker with their lying pretexts saying Obama was not even in office. Now, will they clean up their pile of horse crap? I doubt it.
Yes I watched the speech. I also LISTENED to it and I THOUGHT about the implications.
Did you?
By walking this rhetorical “wobbly plank” Ryan begs the question, “What would he have done differently?”
* Managed the “stimulus” better, and used direct intervention by the Federal Government to force the doors on the factory open to build things nobody wants?
* Rejected the stimulus and let GM go bankrupt closing even more factories?
Either way, dead rhetorical end.
That really wasn't my point.
My point was how quickly people w/ no credibility whatsoever will labbel someone a "liar".
Isn't it clear that the reason you get such widespread, consistently bizarre talking point from them is that they have a "pre-emptive" media machine where all these "no credibility" people have gotten the meme from the campaign and they just go with it whether it fits or not?
That's why it seems so insane. They've been given the answers ahead of time, but the Romney camp is putting different questions on the exams and it screws them up.
