President Barack Obama came to office during an economic crisis, as he has reminded us a time or two. Those were very tough days, and any fair measure of his record has to take that into account. My home state voted for President Obama. When he talked about change, many people liked the sound of it, especially in Janesville, where we were about to lose a major factory.
A lot of guys I went to high school with worked at that GM plant. Right there at that plant, candidate Obama said: I believe that if our government is there to support you this plant will be here for another hundred years. Thats what he said in 2008.
Well, as it turned out, that plant didnt last another year. It is locked up and empty to this day. And thats how it is in so many towns today, where the recovery that was promised is nowhere in sight.
The Washington Post, and a host of other liberal media outlets, are calling this passage misleading because the Janesville plant closed before the president was inaugurated. The Post is dead wrong. Here are the facts:1. On February 13, 2008 Obama said in Janesville : I believe that if our government is there to support you, and give you the assistance you need to re-tool and make this transition, that this plant will be here for another hundred years.
2. In June 2008 GM announced that the Janesville plant would stop production of medium-duty trucks by the end of 2009, and stop production of large SUVs in 2010 or sooner.
3. In October 2008 Obama doubled down on his promise to keep Janesville plant open: As president, I will lead an effort to retool plants like the GM facility in Janesville so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs in Wisconsin and all across America.
4. In December 2008 GM idled production of GM SUVs at the Janesville plant. Medium-duty truck assembly continued.
5. In April 2009, four months after Obama was inaugurated, GM idled production of medium-duty trucks.
6. In September 2011, more than two years after Obama was inaugurated, GM reiterates that Janesville plant is on stand by status. Auto industry observer David Cole, tells the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel it would be premature to say the Janesville plant will never reopen.
6. Today the GM facility in Janesville still has not been retooled so we can build the fuel-efficient cars of tomorrow and create good-paying jobs, as Obama promised.
The vile and loathsome racist Rev. Al called Ryan a liar over the Janesville Plant closing.
It's good to see his record of 100% inaccuracy still stands.
If enough people see it.
Ryan was right. We all knew he wouldn’t get up and say an blatant lie about something like a GM plant closing. I meant a date is something easily checked.
Mitt Romney definitely needs to read this timeline in his speech tonight, thus exposing the lying media to the nation. He should not allow these liars to trash the excellent reputation of Paul Ryan though the falsehoods they are spewing all over the airwaves this morning. This might open the eyes of John Q Voter, who has only the networks and the liberal newspapers to inform him.
This ought to make a very effective ad in WI.
The liberal media is lying about this though. They’ll just repeat whatever lie the Obama Administration tells them to tell.
Not to worry, zero will parse a few words, split a few hairs and the media will come to his rescue as they always do, and all of asudden ‘IT’S BUSH’S FAULT” just like everything else.
Mark my words, it’ll happen.
This guy does not take responsibility for ANYTHING, ever.
Some lib dudette from Fox called Ryan a liar for exactly the same reason. They should all swallow their tongues and gag themselves as a matter of general principle.
Exactly right, but living within a long rock-thrown of Janesville I knew he was right. Still, the RNC needs to trot this example and others out loud and proud to show what a liar Obama and the RATS are.
BFLR
Someone needs to send this to Levin, Rush, Hannity, Greta and the RNC NOW!!!!!!!
"Ryan was right. We all knew he wouldnt get up and say an blatant lie about something like a GM plant closing. I meant a date is something easily checked."
Yep. The left is shocked that somebody would actually have the audacity to point this out, and they are coming undone.

local paper article from last year. Shut down date of 2009 listed in 3rd paragraph
This seems like a wobbly plank for conservatives to walk.
Maybe the plant NEEDS to be CLOSED?!
If their only plan is to retool it to make Volts (or SUVs) that aren’t selling right now, then keep it closed.
OTOH, if Romney/Ryan are going to roll back CAFE and enable new domestic oil production to make SUVs and Pickups profitable and popular again, then it could be years before that impacts the plant and its workers.
IOW, Ryan’s pitch reinforces the anti-conservative idea that the POTUS can just wave a wand and keep jobs going.
It shouldn’t work that way. The POTUS should get government out of the way, and there will be pain for workers until the market catches up.
I really don’t get it. Who cares when it closed or if it “idled.”
Politicians should have no direct power or direct influence whatsoever on the damn business decision as to whether it stays open or not.
They may influence indirectly by economic policies like CAFE and energy policy, but it’s no better for Ryan to waltz in and demand the plant stay open to make things the market doesn’t want.....
Ryan was making the point that the bailout didn’t even work. The point was that Obama tried to convince people to support it by saying it would save jobs, which it didn’t. He also said that the money for the bailout was borrowed, spent and wasted. Maybe real capitalism would have saved those jobs, maybe not, but Obama’s plan was a big fail.
you suppose we can find a laid-off worker there willing to go on camera and claim Obama killed his wife?
It closed before he was in office. The key is he told them it would be retooled and it never was.

Add in the Super Pacs.
Using that famous line in the movie “ Gladiator” ...... Unleash Hell
5. In April 2009, four months after Obama was inaugurated, GM idled production of medium-duty trucks.
