TAMPA-- Former Sec. of State Condoleezza Rice implored Republicans to champion a "compassionate" immigration policy in her speech at the Republican National Convention Wednesday.

"We must continue to welcome the world's most ambitious people to be a part of us. In that way we stay young and optimistic and determined," Rice said. "We need immigration laws that protect our borders; meet our economic needs; and yet show that we are a compassionate people."

Why? Do track record and values matter to you? Would you “have a lot of respect” for a white male RINO with the same credentials? I don’t see freepers fawning over any pro-abortion, pro-illegal alien, pro-Palestinian Republicans who are white males, and telling us what swell presidential candidates they’d make. Rice is to the left of Romney and last time I checked he’s not exactly beloved on FR.

Guess what, Condi fans? Chrissy Matthews agrees with YOU!

“Condi’s speech was presidential. Best address of the convention.”

>> My head is spinning because I’m trying to figure out what’s going on here. Just a very few weeks ago, Freepers were aghast at the rumor Condi might be Romney’s VP; her record was, quite rightfully, posted all over this site as proof she would be a poor choice. But last night on the live convention thread, everybody was swooning over her, weeping, and gushing how much they love her. <<

Ditto. Praising the CONTENT of her speech is one thing (Obama can deliver excellent convention speeches too), but fawning over her as a person and talking about what a inspirational leader and heroic conservative she is, is quite another. The "CONDI 4 PRESIDENT!!!" bandwagon is back, and quite frankly I'm sick of it. (I'm just glad Trump's speech was canceled so we didn't have hear his fans tell us how wonderful he is).

No, Condi is not a "rising star" or "future Presidential material", unless we're caught in a time warp and we're watching the 2000 convention coverage of her speech. Condi is a retread from the Bush years and needs to stay in academia. A downside to this year's convention is far too many of the speakers remind voters of the bad parts of the Bush years. We should be looking ahead to the real "rising stars" elected in 2009 and 2010, not dragging out losers like John McCain.

The Dems don't do that at conventions and give John Kerry the prime time speaking slot (although they do continually trout out has beens for their Senate races!), but our side can't seem to get enough of hearing from "former federal officials" getting prime time coverage. The Illinois GOP just brought in the disgraced RINO Mel Martinez to headline a fundrasier here.

It's ironic how politicians who are FAR more conservative than Condi get constantly attacked here because they voted the wrong way on one or two bills (remember how they constantly screamed "RINO!" at Norm Coleman and now we're stuck with Al Franken?), but Condi's across-the-board liberal beliefs and lousy track record at the state department are swept under the rug.

The sad part about this is that Mia Love (who is also a black female, but a staunch CONSERVATIVE unlike Rice!) gave an excellent address at the convention that completely ignored by the mainstream media. They prefer Colin Powell type "Republicans", and so many conservatives just go along with who the media tells them to pay attention to. Chris Matthews say "JUMP!" and they ask "how high?"

Condi is a loyal Republican and that is something considering how Republican blacks are treated, unless they are traitors like Steele.

Matthews was calling for her to run as a Republican, that says much about what her views are at least on a few issues. She has her own opinions and has no interest joining the sewer called DC politics.

As with last night on MSNBC, she always says she is happy teaching at Stanferd with her students and we should let her go in peace.

Tell you what, while Condi Rice is not conservative enough to be on a GOP presidential ticket, I think that she would be an acceptable U.S. Senate candidate from California. While I was willing to take my chances with a true conservative with the right profile to win statewide such as McClintock or Issa in 2010, they didn’t run against Boxer in 2010 and likely won’t run against her in 2016 (which won’t be as favorable to Republicans as 2010 was) either. We don’t have much of a bench in CA (not even the AG position), so Rice could be our best bet to win. She’d likely vote like Kay Bailey Hutchison, but she’d hold a Senate seat from CA, not TX, so it wouldn’t be a wasted seat as with KBH.

If Condi Rice is interested in electoral politics, a U.S. Senate from CA is as good as it gets for her. She should ask Rudy Giuliani what it’s like for a pro-abortion Republican to run for president.

The compassionate policy would be one that does not reward criminals and terrorists over taxpayer and those immigrants who want to enter legally. Also it would not admit those immigrants who will end up on welfare or take away jobs from us.

A compassionate policy would start deporting illegal aliens and thus protect the best interests of this country.

I'd take Rice over Boxer (or even Feinstein), but honestly I don't think she'd be very competitive running for a statewide race in California. One of the big problems with Rice in electoral office (that her fan club is completely obvious to and in denial about, they claim "independents" LOVE her) is the taint she carries from being a loyal George W. Bush cabinet member. She reminds people of Bush's underwhelming second term and many of the unpopular things he championed ("roadmap to peace", amnesty, massive foreign aide spending to countries that hate us, etc.)

Even with a solid conservative politician (say, John Ashcroft), there's similar problems to running them because of the "Bush cabinet member" issue, so I'm not being biased against RINO Rice in that respect. Contrary to what her adoring fans seem to think, I haven't met any "independents" that love her, just mainstream media pundits and "conservatives" who worship her because feel the need to showcase that we have black female Republicans (hopefully, Mia Love's election will render that a non-factor and they'll stop dragging Rice out)

>> She should ask Rudy Giuliani what it’s like for a pro-abortion Republican to run for president. <<

I agree it would be very difficult for an openly pro-abortion Republican to win the nomination for President, though "front runner" Rudy's problems went beyond that. For starters, his sole campaign issue was "9/11" and he decided not to campaign until Florida. In theory, a think a candidate who was "mildly pro-choice" (whatever that means) but otherwise solid conservative could win the GOP nomination for President if they had the right election year and opponents in the primary. Rice is certainly not that person though.

Ideally, I think she'd be best in a Republican administration as Ambassador to Russia. Bush should have given her that job in the first place. She was out of her league as Secretary of State. Rice is very intelligent and poised, but what works in academia doesn't work in the real world when you're dealing with third world dictators.

Well, as a conservative, I can’t say that I’m loyal to the Republican party.....at this point in time they make me sick.

But is she all that loyal? If I recall correctly, she gushed unmercifully over Obama’s election, and wouldn’t admit whether she voted for him or not.

I do? What Democrats have you meet that dislike someone for being pro-abortion and pro-illegal alien? The vast majority of Democrats I've seen favor both, and many other liberal positions. What Democrats do you know who care about a candidate's record and values? Obama had no experience and stood for nothing except "hope and change" and they loved him.

Did I say we should vote for Obama's re-election or tell everyone to oppose Romney? I did not. You seem to be confusing my posts with someone else. All I said is Rice is a RINO and to the left of Romney. If you see any freepers claiming they'd support Obama over Romney, take it up with them. I'd never advocate such an insane position. Clearly, Romney is not as bad as Obama.

OK, she's not a RNC drone like Hannity but if you recall late 2008 Powell came out and attacked Bachmann for that Hardball interview and used Matthews characterization of it to assert that Republicans were a bunch of McCarthy-racists who had to be voted out.

Probably every black she knew was in love with Obama back then.

Check out Dick Morris’ twitter feed. He must have soiled himself during her speech, ready to crown her Empress. And it was a good speech but come on.

Senate from Cali though if she’s interested, why not. If Fiorina can get within 10 points I don’t see why Condi wouldn’t have a chance against Boxer or for an open seat. The Bush association would be a huge electoral problem for her but hopefully people will stop caring eventually.

Ditto with Chris "Thrill up my leg" Matthews. He said Condi sounds "presidential" and her speech was "absolutely the best convention speech I heard". The freepers who swoon over Condi and ignore her liberal policies ought to realize what kind of company they're keeping. Sure Condi is intelligent and classy, but she needs to be kept as far away from the White House as possible. She was in over her head as Secretary of State. (I'd be OK with her running for U.S. Senate in California if we couldn't get any "name" candidates)
