570 KVI Seattle John Carlson Laura Ingraham Mark Levin KOMO 1000 97.7 NewsIts been a tumultuous two years at Fisher Communications 570 KVI Seattle.
In November 2010 the station dropped its long running Conservative Talk format amidst declining ratings to flip to Oldies. After the music format failed to generate an audience on AM, the station went back to Talk with a lifestyle and consumer based lineup. On Tuesday, September 4, with ratings hovering around a 0.2, KVI will complete the cycle as it will return to conservative talk. The new KVI will be anchored by John Carlsons return to the station to host mornings from 5-9am. Carlson had been hosting afternoons on KVI prior to the switch to Oldies; at which time he moved to sister News 1000/97.7 KOMO for a 9am-12pm show. The remainder of the lineup will be syndicated including Laura Ingraham from 9am-12pm, Todd Schnitt 12-3pm, Mark Levin 3-6pm (starting October 15), Lars Larson 6-9pm, Michael Savage 9pm-11pm, Red Eye Radio 11pm-3am, and Don Imus 3-5am. Levin and Larson currently air in the market on Salems Freedom 1590 KLFE. They will both move to KVI, but not right away.
With Carlson moving back to KVI, KOMO will expand its News programming blocks into the 9am-3pm timeslots held by Carlson and Ken Schrams talk shows.
Glad to see KVI back, but Carlson is a marginal conservative.
One cannot trust Fisher, they just do not get it.

I have to go to Seattle a lot and have just hated missing Levin....glad that he’s there now!
Expanding (cough, cough) his role as chairman of the state GOP.

Sadly in Boston Clear Channel flipped conservative talk WXKS 1200 to...comedy. They decided to let (higher rated, more powerful) WRKO take back Rush and Coast to Coast; local hosts Jeff Katz and Jay Severin were let go, and now there is no Boston home for Hannity, Levin, Beck, etc.
Comedy? Apparently AM 1200 wasn’t cutting it in the ratings as cons. talk, so instead they are now “Matty’s Comedy 1200” referring to a host on an FM sister station. All comedy routines, for people who listen for short periods etc. Sad...
I’ll give him a listen but my “skepto-meter” is on full. When he teamed up with what’s his name shram he showed his true middle of the road colors (for me at least).
I remember when a station in the Washington, DC market tried that all-comedy format. It was a bigger bomb even than Air America.
The falling ratings (if you take that as a valid comment) were caused by dropping Rush Limbaugh and then bringing in Ken Schramm to supposedly perform some sort of point / counterpoint discussion with John Carlson who seemed to have trouble finding his own political footing from time to time. That sock puppet duo couldn't even get into the ring with Medved.
I used to have my radio on KVI almost all the time when I first moved here in '03. Their line up switches turned me to the internet full time. If they want to really try to reach local conservatives they are going to have a real tough time cracking local broadcasts on 770, 790 and 1590. I suggest they start with Lars Larson and maybe see if they can pick up some lesser syndicated personalities who have strong internet followings like Michael Berry from Houston, Inga Barks from Fresno or Jerry Doyle from Las Vegas. Let John Carlson read the traffic and weather ...not much more.
Our local radio station 1340 dropped talk radio to run ESPN all sports all day long. I don’t know if their ratings are doing any better now as they lost me. I miss listening to Laura Ingraham, Neil Bortz was on there also. I don’t know who else as after Laura I switched to 870 to listen to Rush.
I moved to the Houston area a few years ago; Michael Berry is fantastic.
The Shirley Q. Liquor character is a riot.
With all the stammering, he's like listening to Porky Pig too.
I'd like a station that is going to hammer local politics, state leg and so forth (as Mike Seigel used to). In modern radio, I know that humans are expensive in place of a network feed. But it would also differentiate them from KTTH.
There are ample places to get the national broadcasters these days.
I know Howie has had problems with RKO's owners, but if he goes, there goes RKO, IMHO.
Kirby’s warriors!!!
BTW, even up here where I moved to in many sodas, there's more Conservative talk shows on AM than what they have back there in starbuck land! I have been continually amazed!
Ill never forget in 2008 when Kirby helped me find my caucas location, we thought it was at his house but I was just outside the area, his wife is so nice.
Is Baumgartner a Pauler? I am so sick of the Paulers that I could scream. I’m going to have to vote for him, but I won’t like it? I am really disappointed.
