Missouri Republican Todd Akin is vowing to continue his Senate campaign, though the question increasingly is: to what purpose? His continuing candidacy is harming the social-conservative wing of the GOP that he claims to be defending.
Mitt Romney and other Republican officials sensibly disavowed the Congressman after his recent comment that "legitimate rape" can be a contraceptive. For Mr. Romney, this was something of a Sister Souljah momentnot that he's getting much media credit for it. But rather than leave the race to another Republican who might be able to win, Mr. Akin has since cast himself as a pro-life martyr. He's blaming "party bosses" who he claims don't really care about the sanctity of life the way he does.
He's also received some unfortunate cover from Mike Huckabee, the talk show host and former Arkansas Governor, who wrote in an email to supporters: "Is this what the party really thinks of principled pro-life advocates? Do we forgive and forget the verbal gaffes of Republicans who are 'conveniently pro-life' for political advantage, but crucify one who truly believes that every life is sacred?"

Consider the absurdity of a Presidential candidate working to keep a member of his party out of the Senate. Is it not clear the GOPe prefers the lunatic McCaskill over the conservative Akin? What about the GOPe attempted coup yesterday to empower Mittens to substitute unworthy delegates with rinos of his choosing? The denial of funds to Akin and recent Convention events are closely connected and designed to show the world of trouble the establishment can visit on any conservative it wishes.
Todd Akin is the duly elected and selected candidate for Senate by the Republicans of Missouri. He has already apologized for his unfortunate selection of words. Yet, cowardly members of his own party have turned their backs to him. The Republicans are no better than the Democrats when it comes to ignoring the will of the people.
His own party is following their own base instincts in wanting to totally and absolutely destroy Todd Akin for a couple of words. Maybe they need to take a deep breath and re-think what they are doing to themselves.
It is time to support this candidate. Or, like the Democrats the Republicans have no confidence in the intelligence of the voters?
This is so utterly twisted. Akin is helping reelect McCaskill all by himself, which is probably why she supported him in the primaries. Akin needs to get out now before he does further damage to the effort to remove McCaskill and regain the Senate.
Just paint so-called social conservatives as knuckle-dragging snake charmers, ignore the voting record of Akin, his 97 American Conservative Union lifetime rating and encourage us to devour each other. Its at least as old as Sun Tzu, divide and conquer. I won't have any of it.
There will be two candidates on the Missouri ballot, a conservative and a psycho. Pick one.
Well, if it is true that Akins people were about to pull off the stunt described above, I see why substitutions were necessary.
The GOPe regards us, not the rats as the enemy!
Oh, puh-leez. Putting words like this into Akin's mouth is disgusting and helps no one. Conservatives have a horrible record of attacking other conservatives who come under liberal attack. We should support our own, not throw landmines under their feet.
Is it true that Akins people were trying to pull off the stunt described above or not?
Come on, Todd Akin is an embarrassment.
By the way, Anthony Weiner also apologized.
The denial of funds for Akin is not because he is a Conservative. It is because he exposed himself as a total moron at the national level, and in doing so inflicted significant damage to the Conservative causes he supposedly supports.
I am not questioning Akin's Conservative convictions or his deep genuine support for pro-life causes. What I am questioning is his commitment to the cause given his stubborn self-motivated refusal to step aside. Fair or not, his moronic and callous comments regarding rape and abortion disqualify him from the office that he is running. That is simply a fact, and something that a qualified candidate should have understood BEFORE he decided to demonstrate his ignorance of female biology for all to see.
He can represent the mainstream of our values, just don’t let him be the one to go into the public square to argue and defend them... he can’t talk them...
I notice that no author wanted to put their name to this abortion of an editorial.
This is an absolute lie and you know it.
When you have to lie so abominably and take the low road so deceitfully then you have surrendered any high ground that others once thought you possessed. Got it???
He talked just fine the other day on the radio when he said that it is unfair to just selfishly abandon those who have worked so hard for his campaign and just surrender the results of their hard labor to the demands of party elites few of whom wanted him as their candidate in the first place.
Save the country, then we can hash out other things. Yes it may be true that RINOs don't want any part of the kind of conservatism that is represented by the right and far right. But if a RINO is the choice to preserve all other freedoms, then I'd rather be fighting RINOs after securing our freedom than what Obama's America will bring. And let's face it, there will never be any one person who will be able to sooth all ills and appeal equally to all the varying degrees of conservatism. We've got what we got... made great progress in 2010, and regardless what anyone thinks, we are "matriculating the ball down the field" (Hank Stram, KC Chiefs)
Todd Akin= Capt. Ahab.
<>he stole attention away from the main argument for this election, and that is FREEDOM.<>
Yeh like this FREEDOM that was taken away by the heavy handedness of the Romney forces in Tampa.

Surrounded by idiots that capitulate to false narratives from the lefty spin and the party of Molech is more accurate.
As someone stated earlier, it takes a bit of an IQ to understand the nuance of what Akin was reffering. That is where he most likely misjudged by overestimating the public. Notice that the interviewer Jaco did not halt the interview in amazed astonishment for clarification.
To state that Akin doesn’t understand ‘basic biology’ is absurd and false. It required a much deeper understanding than the intellectually lazy possess because the facts he was referring go beyond a basic biology and unfortunately he has been unjustly scorned by the panicking party of highbrow that worry of style over substance, appearances over truth and stand for nothing but the party’s popularity and power, irrespective of integrity.
Your entire assessment of the Akin’s truth and basic disagreement with him implies lack of intellect. However, ad hominem is the last resort of someone with no real counter-argument.
