Complete title

Floor fight: Grass-roots activists battle attempt to rig RNC delegate rules Updated: Palin: “direct attack on the grass-roots;” RNC power grab showdown 2pm; Rush weighs in; purge underway?; Rules Cmte votes 78-14 for deal; dissidents gather sigs for floor fight; Boehner/Sununu declare”no objections” over massive boos on floor

*********************************************************

*snip*

Update 3:34pm Eastern Dissidents have until 3:47pm Eastern to gather enough signatures to force the floor vote, according to right-leaning Examiner’s Tim Carney, who is on scene. Left-leaning BuzzFeed’s Zeke Miller, also on scene, says it appears dissidents have gathered enough signatures for minority report on Rule 12, but not yet on Rule 15(16).

Carney says that Drew McKissck has emailed a minority report to RNC leaders within the rules deadline…

***

Update: 4:34pm Eastern Well, that was…something else. First, Maine delegates were replaced with Romney people. Then, rules chairman John Sununu and GOP Speaker of the House John Boehner stood on stage at the RNC to rule on the compromise rules report. No minority report was mentioned. When asked for yeas and nays on the report, the room seemed equally divided. Boehner forged ahead and approved the report over loud boos and calls of “point of order” from activists on the floor.

No vote on the minority report.

FW’s Dean Clancy observes: “If @SpeakerBoehner had been wielding the Speaker’s gavel instead of the GOP convention gavel, he wouldn’t have gotten away with that trick.”

And the show went on…GOP Rep. Marsha Blackburn just declared that “this has been a great exercise in grass-roots” and that GOP stands for “Great Opportunity Party.”

Rob Port:

Watch until about 2:39:00 when Speaker of the House John Boehner takes the podium and asks for a voice vote on the rules. The “nays” from the floor were at least as loud as the “yeas,” but Boehner approved the rules “without objection.”

What a joke.

Meanwhile, a North Dakota delegate texted me from the floor of the convention saying that they were instructed to chant “USA” (you can hear it during the video) to drown out the dissenters.

Pushing the social conservatives into a third party is exactly what the Paulers are hoping for, then they will have a clear run at controlling the GOP.

It certainly would be nice. But given the back and forth that goes on with these type of rule changes I imagine its a bit harder for fully accurate details to be published or at least email or tweeted at a given moment. We can only go by what those people who are at the convention are saying. The people at the convention probably have to spend more time debating and fighting what they see rather than getting the information out. But that also goes back to my comment that we have no real leadership. It has become a lost art form. Someone should have setup a good line of communication ahead of time so we could get up to the minute and accurate reporting.

If the one post above is correct on the language of rule 16 or whatever it is, it doesn't look bad to me assuming its correct. There was the issue about being able to change the rules in the middle of the game with a 3/4 vote as it was being reported on rule 12. Anytime you can move the goal posts or change the rules in the middle of the game your asking for trouble. So the question is that happening here? I don't doubt there was an effort afoot to try to do that given how conservatives are looked at by the party leadership even if those working for the DNC through Ron Paul are trying to stir up trouble, the power brokers will use to there advantage. However confirmation rather than being in the dark would go along way here.

LOL! This was planned by the Paulers for months, not the Romney campaign.

Ron Paul is a cross between Marshall Applegate and the Joker.

Instead of rescinding the ban, they simply voted not to enforce it. That way they can’t be blamed either way. It’s like voting present.

Pushing the social conservatives into a third party is exactly

...what mitt and his liberal quislings have accomplished. And that his vomitous flying monkeys have swarmed FR to defend this attack on Conservatism only seals the deal for a repeat of 2010.

Ron Paul and his disciples are “all of the above” and more. But if you can’t see the triangulation of the good Bishop in concert w/ the GOP, than enjoy the Grand Old Plantation chains.

LOL! This was planned by the Paulers for months, not the Romney campaign.

You keep blaming Ron Paul and his zombies for what Romney and the GOP-e Ruling Class just did. Either you are being deliberately disingenuous, or an outright liar.

It was reported by delegate Morton Blackwell that vocal opposition to Rules changes was made by his VA delegation WHO ARE NOT PAUL ZOMBIES, and that Boehner ignored all the boos and declared the rules changes 'unanimously accepted'.

As I said to you earlier, Paul is a nice scapegoat for goose-stepping Romneybots for what they and the Oligarch leadership of the RNC in conjunction with the DNC and Obama are perpetrating on grassroots Conservatives.

You aren't fooling us at all, or deflecting responsibility for where it truly lies. We will continue to work against Romney and for Conservative candidates only.

I cannot stand Ron Paul, or his hordes. But what happened today is not because of him or his lame attempts to cause a floor fight. It was the Ruling Class of the GOP and Romney that just laid waste to Conservatives and essentially ousted us from any viability in their control of the party.

This is what they do in Cook County. I know, because I lived there and served as a precinct captain for the GOP many moons ago. It's all Machine thuggery.

Do you think that I don’t know all of that? I am an ABO, Anyone But Obama voter. I was a Santorum supporter from early on, but this election is too important, there is too much at stake.

There is one important difference between Obama and Romney and that is motive, of intent. I explained this before, but I will try again. Romney is afflicted with the same malady as George Bush, he’s too concerned with being liked and doing the “right” thing. They are both victims of Ivy league schools who put them on the Social Justice guilt trip and they bought into, hook, line and sinker.

Obama doesn’t operate under such delusions. Obama knows that social justice is just an organizing tool. He knows that Obamacaare is not about the uninsured, or lowering health care costs. Obama knows that Obamacare is all about unionizing 1/5 of the economy under a single federal union, securing power in a centralized government.

Though the results of Romneycare and Obamacare are the same, it is important that the intent was different. It’s the same thing about Gay marriage. I am not saying that this excuses Mitt Romney or makes it right, it just makes him not as evil, just wrong.

Maybe some of you Romney haters live in a state where you won’t be as impacted by an Obama win, as I will be, but we don’t have a strong GOP, here. If Obama wins re-election, WA will be the first state to fully implement Obamacare and the full Agenda 21. We are well on the way, already.

It’s so bad that some of our local Republicans support the SEIU, heck, some of them are members.

You haven’t been paying attention if you don’t understand that this was planned in advance by the Paulers. I’m tired of explaining to you and your fellow doomsday cultists.

You see what you want to see. Do you see the space ship coming, yet?

The enemy is beyond the gates, he’s here among us and you and your friends are turning your backs and letting giving him another chance to destroy this country.

___

"Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption for authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. They promise to be good masters, but they mean to be masters." -- Daniel Webster

And by the way, I detest Ron Paul. But I detest statism, be it red-colored or blue-colored, even more.

You are breaking apart what I said and taking issue with bits and pieces, changing the meaning to fit your argument.

The fact remains that standing by and letting Obama be re-elected is the same as pulling the lever for him.

Congratulations, you just joined the Obama doomsday cult.
