"In an interview for Revealing Politics today, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus was asked, among other things, if the partys position on Akin would eventually change if Akin refused to step out of the race: The question is: If he stays in, is your position eventually going to change? Are you going to have to support him? The Chairman replies No, no. No. He could be tied. Were not going to send him a penny.

The RNC might as well take all of the Missouri addresses and phone numbers off their fundraising list.
Gross stupidity by Priebus...he’s dead to me.
Many of Akin's supporters also gave money to the GOP -- hopefully they will contact the GOP and ask for it back.
Yet we're supposed to blindly support Romney because 'he's the Republican nominee'.
[snort]
Another-do-as-I-say-and-not-as-I-do moment brought to you by the GOPe.
If he’s the brightest, that sure doesn’t say much for our past RNC chairs.
That’s okay, though, I have no intention of giving any of my money to the RNC. Prefer not to have them decide how it gets spent. I do better.
If akin actually does pull close or ahead, do you seriously think the country clubbers will let him just lose? They will just finance via other channels.
That will play well with Missourians.
Akin was toxic because of the Rep overreaction to a manufactured MSM/Dem hysteria. In less than 24 hours every Rep inclding the conservative media were attacking Akin and demanding that he withdraw from the race. It was a way over the top reaction to a verbal gaffe. And apology and explanation not accepted. This is no way to treat a colleague.
Akin would have stayed in regardless. I applaud Huckabee for supporting a friend, someone whom he endorsed during the MO primary. Steve King also stood by Akin. Michele Bachmann has been missing in action in that regard.
No Presidential nominee wants to explain how a woman's body will "shut down" a life conceived by rape. I suspect Akin will have a hard time explaining it when asked about it, over and over, through the rest of the campaign.
He apologized and said that a woman could get pregnant during rape. He also clarified that he meant the word forcible instead of legitimate rape. Forcible rape in an FBI categorization to distinguish it from statutoy rape and other forms of rape.
August 20--Congressman Todd Akin released the following statement:
This weekend I made a mistake. I used the wrong words in the wrong way. What I said was ill-conceived and it was wrong and for that I apologize. Im a dad of two daughters and I want tough justice for sexual predators and Ive always had a compassionate heart for the victims of sexual assault.
The people from Missouri that elected me know Im not perfect. We all make mistakes. When you make a mistake what you need to do is tell people youre sorry. Dont try and hide it. Thats why I have repeatedly said that I am very sorry for my comments.
Just because somebody makes a mistake doesnt make them useless. We need a conservative in the United States Senate, and I am running to replace Claire McCaskill and get our country back on track.
IMO Akin should just deflect any questions on the so-called science of the issue and say he has issued an apology and it is now time to move on to the real issues in this campaign.
The problem is that Akin’s comments were so toxic that supporting him - even if he can win (which he can’t) - would hurt other Republican candidates. Winning Missouri that way could cost us Connecticut, for example, or the White House.
Akin didn’t bring it up. A gotcha question from a reporter did. The MSM will be going after the social issues with Rep candidates from Romney on down. Rape, gay marriage and adoption, abortion, creationism, “don’t ask, don’t tell” etc. will be the subjects of many questions to Reps. Wait for the debates. The Dems see social issues as the Reps’ Achilles heel.
At this point, I have no idea what they would do. Nothing would surprise me at this point.
My only comment was directed at the stupidity of Prebius' remark.
We’re past that. We’re now at Priebus’s statement. Defend it.
Incredible isn’t it? A verbal gaffe has become a cause celebre. It shows how imitidated the GOP has become by its knee-jerk reaction to a misstatement. The MSM and the Dems must be laughing themselves to death watching the GOP run around like Chicken Little.
I will repeat what I have said recently...
here is an analogy
Obama is to Romney as McCaskill is to Akin.
How many of you are voting for romney ONLY because you hate this administration?
Pro-life rape victims and those who are the children of rape are speaking out IN SUPPORT OF AKIN! What is the matter with you people?????
It is because of illegitimate claims of rape that many people don’t get help!
Women who cried wolf the illegitimate rape claim behind Roe v Wade
You just heard Reince Priebus say so and he has not apologized or clarified his comments. Missourians will take note of this and will take action accordingly.
The Akin’s comments are hurting many races around the country, even has implications in the presidential race. Those who think MO voters are the only ones affected are in denial as to how widespread the damage is. Akin went from an obscure candidate for MO Senator to a national joke...to both Republicans and Democrats. Just when the Senate and Presidency are within reach, he strikes with a stupid comment. Makes the Dems’ stereotypical “Republicans are Neanderthals” argument for them. It’s not just about Akin and HIS desires.
BS — if those candidates lose they would have to be big boys and girls and own their own defeats — unless of course Prience decides to pull funding from there as well, then it will be the RNC’s fault.
if the GOP supports Akin in any way, it ties the party to him and his views (the corrupt MSM and Dems will make sure of it!)...it would hurt the party at large...i agree send him nothing, and continue to pressure him to drop out
