Barbara Ann Fenton made what was for some a shocking suggestion at one of the most traditionally conservative meetings leading up to the Republican National Convention.
The 31-year-old delegate from Rhode Island formally suggested that her party's ideological manifesto recognize civil unions for same-sex couples as well as straight ones.

Fenton's initiative, much to her own surprise, was met with a resounding shout of "second" from not one, but from a couple of people in the room.
Themis Klarides, a state representative from Connecticut, was one of the delegates who affirmed Fenton's motion.
"I'm from New England, where support for gay couples is really old news," Klarides said.

Fenton also called her mom after the meeting. Her mother had read about her daughter's amendment suggestion online.
"My mom said, 'You are creating mischief again. I'm so proud of you,' " Fenton said.

Is it too late to run a third party candidate against him or her--or it?
Ask a homosexual what rights they don’t have?
Usually they will say the right to marry, if they do point out that there are at least 1,500 churches in the US who will perform a wedding ceremony for them.
If you keep talking to them, what the real issue is they want to be recognized as normal (actually they want to be justified/legitimized), it’s never going to happen.
Even in the every so liberal Hollywood crowd, their gay members are treated more like pets than equals.
“Gay Rights” idiots won’t be happy until every man, woman and child is gay. That’s the bottom line.
Why are we still letting New England states send delegates to a Republican convention? That’s totally unreal.
When did it become cool to be gay?
It seems that we have gone from being tolerant of homosexuality, to now being compelled to legally and officially recognize it as positive and good and, shall we say, normal.
It’s almost a cliche that TV shows nowadays have an obligatory gay character. And that character is always witty and funny and wise.
Sometimes we talk about the gayness of TV, and wonder about old shows. Who would be the obligatory gay character on Gilligan’s Island? In fact, since everything gets so sexualized nowadays, who would Ginger and Mary Anne be bunking with? No way they would have their own hut if they made that show today.
By allowing civil unions you are promoting sin/perversion and fostering mental illness......
I wonder if part of this “gaying” of the GOP is attacking real conservatives like Todd Akin?
How many see the difference between being friendly to gays and being an adversary of “gay rights”? (”Gay rights” is a fictional oxymoron if there ever was one and the gay agenda threatens the moral and social health of our country, but Jesus loves and died for homosexuals)

Of course this was all part of their agenda: First you ask for tolerance. When that becomes the norm, you gradually and by degrees begin turning a large number of people to acceptance -—then, you up the ante to celebration in the media, and the culture, with legislation backing this up. Finally, there is a DEMAND for full equality and normalization , which is where we now stand. It wasn’t nipped in the bud, so here we are.
They’re friendlier to abortion than they advertize as well.
Define the meaning of “friendly,” especially when used “behind the scenes.” Sounds perverted to me, like something Democrats do to 16 year old boys in parking lots.
I want out of this society. There doesn’t seem to be anywhere to turn any longer for people who oppose perversion, government intrusion, undermining of parental authority. Who thought, 30-40 years ago, that we’d have reached this point? So why would be it be impossible to believe that in another couple of decades, if that long, that it will be illegal to speak against sodomy, to teach Biblical positions, to teach your own children? The so-called “right” (the politicians, not the people) are not going to hold the line. That’s not why they’re there. If they were going to hold it, how did we ever even get to this point?
Already in Canada, a supposedly free Western nation, people have been brought before quasi-legal “human rights commissions” for speaking/publishing against sodomites. What are the signs in this nation that things are moving the other way? Yes, we had our day supporting Chic-Fil-A, but who would have ever thought 10 years ago that a company would be threatened the way they were because of the owner’s personal beliefs?
The same thing is happening with many other issues.
It can’t be long before they begin finding more ways to put the screws to homeschoolers, one of the few remaining ways to remove one’s family from the matrix.
This is not progress. This is the erosion of core beliefs. Incrementalism is not progress for conservatives. It is the result of liberals usign the dialectic process to incrementally topple us off our core foundational beliefs.
This is why they never give up anything in “compromise”. The compromise is always managed by them and is always in the direction of inching towards THEIR ultimate goal, not ours.
A couple of people? Perhaps CNN could have written the story better since not one but 2 people offered to second the motion: GOP SUPPORT FOR SAME SEX UNIONS DOUBLED and let the story emphasize the softening of positions due to the growing influence of the LGBT community in GOP politics.
