When did it become cool to be gay?
It seems that we have gone from being tolerant of homosexuality, to now being compelled to legally and officially recognize it as positive and good and, shall we say, normal.
It’s almost a cliche that TV shows nowadays have an obligatory gay character. And that character is always witty and funny and wise.
Sometimes we talk about the gayness of TV, and wonder about old shows. Who would be the obligatory gay character on Gilligan’s Island? In fact, since everything gets so sexualized nowadays, who would Ginger and Mary Anne be bunking with? No way they would have their own hut if they made that show today.

Of course this was all part of their agenda: First you ask for tolerance. When that becomes the norm, you gradually and by degrees begin turning a large number of people to acceptance -—then, you up the ante to celebration in the media, and the culture, with legislation backing this up. Finally, there is a DEMAND for full equality and normalization , which is where we now stand. It wasn’t nipped in the bud, so here we are.
