Poll: Akin support drops, voters want another candidate
Politico ^ | 8/25/12 | Alexander Burns

The most remarkable stat in the poll may be this from the crosstabs: even voters who say they are supporting Akin think he should withdraw by a 16-point margin, 50 percent to 34 percent. That suggests there's a floor for a Republican Senate candidate in Missouri, but that conservatives in the state would rather have a different option in the race

"I don’t know anything about Akin, and a 12 year, good voting record sounds great, but I did catch most of his interview on the Hannity show, and he gave me the willies."

I had the same reaction. He has that kind of messianic certainty of his candidacy that makes the hair go up on the back of the neck. Also, Hannity had to repeatedly ask and verbally maneuver to get Akin to say that he now realizes that he was medically wrong to state that a woman's reproductive system defends against conception due to rape. I am not sure he believes that or just said it to get out of the interview.

My point is that Claire McCaskill is an extremely weak candidate. A box of rocks could beat her by 10 points and an articulate, intelligent candidate could beat her by more. The only possible way for an opponent to lose to her is for him to stand in front of the TV cameras and say things that are both stupid and offensive.

Mr. Akins may be a conservative. But he is not intelligent enough to realize that all he had to do to win by at least 10 points was just NOT SAY ANYTHING STUPID.

The Democrats are urging Mr. Akins to remain in the race. I hope jedijones is correct and this blows over and Mr. Akins wins. It is kind of cool for the the Democrats to lose to the candidate they spent so much money supporting.

OK...I'm a Republican voter and I have entered the polling booth and I will pull the lever for Romney but somehow people think I will go along with electing McCaskill. I don't care what people say to a pollster I believe in the end those voters will vote for Akin!!

> It’s not a good thing to be this fearful of losing the election.

What is more fearful is the abject ignorance and thick headed reluctance to face reality and see akin for the loser he has become. He’s dead Jim.

FUTA

>Joe Manchin pledged to vote with us to overturn Obamacare in his VA campaign

Two things, sadly, Manchin is here in West By God, not Virginia and he can not be trusted to do the right thing.

That, and you never throw away a Senate win that was in the bag for ANY reason.

FUTA

Exactly. The ones diverting attention away from akin’s own suicide are most likely DUmpster democrat trolls that enjoy freely slamming any Republican on a Conservative site.

The ignorant and evil is glaring. FUTA.

In Post 77 you inquired as to Todd Akin's affect. He is PCA. Stoic. Obstinate. Uncompromising. Tight-fisted. Old school Presbyterians are. They wear elbow patches on their suit coats. Run recapped tires on their cars. Squeeze a buffalo nickel until it's bowels move.

Akin rated over 90% by ACU. GOA rates him 'A.' NTU 'B'. Such ratings typify one that does not compromise. Hence, the left's HATRED of the man.

Todd Akin is the candidate. He ain't goin' folks...

Do you think McCaskill is gonna publish her oppo research, genius?!? Where? OppoWiki.com? It was a stoooopud question.

Uh, no. Your contention that you know something exists when you have absolutely no evidence of it is what's stupid. If Akin made so many gaffes people don't know about, then go find some of them to prove your case. Otherwise stop contributing to the torrent of vague, unsupported accusations against this man.

I’m ready for a good conservative underdog fight, but Akin seemed creepy that day, fixated on winning the next office, self absorbed, vain, and rigid, egoistical in a quiet, mock Christian way, is he always like that?

I heard some of the interview on Hannity and it was Hannity who seemed self-absorbed and fixated on winning the Missouri Senate seat. Akin was simply trying to "rigidly" defend himself and his good record. I'm not sure how someone could not seem "rigid" when Hannity asks him to step down in every question and he's not interested in stepping down. Hannity's line of questioning was equally rigid in implying Akin should step down.

I hope jedijones is correct and this blows over and Mr. Akins wins.

I'm not predicting that unless the RNC money comes back to him. No one's going to beat a Democrat when outspent 12 to 1. But if the RNC money does come back, then I predict Akin will win, by a smaller margin then the 10 points he was up, but still win.

I have an idea!

Every time one of our candidates misspeaks, let’s throw him under the bus!

We will win that way, for sure!

not poking into other people’s boudoirs

that is a canard...and an old one btw

it's about a helluva lot more than that and if you really are limited govt type you know that

i assume you are speaking of homosexual right to bugger and fist one another?

it may come as a shock to you but the Moral Majority died last generation and conservatives gave queers the right to do their thing in private unencumbered not long after Stonewalls..which may even be before you were born..who knows?

all of that has led to the same crap civil rights did...preference and discrimination claims and now this crusade to equate homosexual "relationships" with man-wife marriage nuclear family relationships which have been the backbone of Judeo Christian thinking since Moses...Mt Sinai

unless you believe Blackmun's BS crap about right to privacy for a woman to kill her baby en utero then what actual issue do you think the SoCons as you call them...like a pejorative label...telling btw....what issue do you think conservatives are in your bedroom over? Pray tell...

Bottom line...my guess...you're bigoted against Christianity

who knows why...nuns beat you....televangelist stole from granny....cossacks hounded your ancestors across the steppes...it could be anybody's guess

scratch a social moderate here who smirks at social conservaism and you usually find it's personal and that they are not really all that conservative much anyhow...just the kind of people the GOPE is sucking up to

I know you claim not to be an old poster now banned many times OPH...but you write just like him

Let's hope that when it becomes time to actually vote, enough people just can't bring themselves to vote for Claire McCaskill. Let's hope Mr. Akins runs a strong campaign from now until the election and these current problems become less important.

If that’s true WHY is he the nominee with an overwhelming vote

Are you serious?

In the U.S. Senate race, Republican Congressman Todd Akin won 36 percent of the vote to win the Republican primary. Akin will face incumbent U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill in November. Akin's opponents, businessman John Brunner (who spent millions of his own money on the race) and Sarah Steelman captured 30 percent and 29.2 percent of the vote, respectively.

Most voters in the primary wanted someone else, now they really want someone else...

I would replace Romney with Akin.

This would make for a historic election as this nation's first ever 538-0 electoral vote landslide victory.

Ref your post #114.

As you and most Freepers will know, one Saul D. Alinsky wrote "Rules For Radicals". This is the handbook of many within the corrupt newsmedia and their political controls, who support THAT political party.

The tactic of turning an unguarded statement or even a miss step into a major so-called gaffe has ruined many honest men and women. This is pure Alinsky. His dedication to one particular presence in part reads:

"..... the first radical known to man who rebelled against the establishment and did it so effectively that he won his own kingdom
-Lucifer."

Yes, if Akin is sundered and the Republicans take a heavy body blow and NOT because of the respective merits of the two parties, Alinsky has won. Dead these many years, his tactics live on. I can visualize his "dancing with the devil" in anticipation of what he has wrought.

Excuse the ramble, I had set myself to wait intil next Thursday, before posting on the subject of Todd Akin. For I felt with ( not much support), this business would have "fizzled out".

We will see.
