Poll: Akin support drops, voters want another candidate
Politico ^ | 8/25/12 | Alexander Burns

The most remarkable stat in the poll may be this from the crosstabs: even voters who say they are supporting Akin think he should withdraw by a 16-point margin, 50 percent to 34 percent. That suggests there's a floor for a Republican Senate candidate in Missouri, but that conservatives in the state would rather have a different option in the race

The “vitriol” as you call it, didn’t happen until after thousands of words of reasoned civil discourse, increasing which got nowhere against some heads that are probably made of reinforced concrete.

I always got the same parroted cookie-cutter answers until my frustration level rose to all-time highs. I have hit my Popeye “That’s alls I can stands!” moment.

I get very angry when anyone CANNOT see the disaster of losing the senate because of some holy revelation the rest of us are not privy to.

So the socons are going to get it, now.

Depends if you know what the meaning of “some” is or not.

You’ve blundered into a no-fly zone in my opinion.

Again, best for you to stick to those dense leading questions if you hope to continue. You’ve just shown your flight plan regardless of altitude.

Individuals stand on their own and don’t get pushed. People should vote for the person they want, not the one they are told to want.

It did accurately describe your trivial, childlike presence here.

You have the basics correct.

Unfortunately, we are being spammed with fiction writers trying to create "The Legend of Todd Akin, Conservative Martyr". They wanna pretend it was just one little mistake, then cover their ears and sing "LA-LA-LA-LA-I CAN'T HEAR YOU!" when you try to warn them about all the oppo research McCaskill has on this guy, and that's why she helped him win. And they want to go back and reclassify all those conservatives who were begging him to get out as "RINOS" and "DEMS" and GOPe. And apparently, Akin is the only pro-life politician in Missouri.

There are people still trying to defend what he said...even though he won't.

Akin prolly has a blue ox named Babe...

I don't remember accusing any longstanding Freepers of being RINOs because they were against Akin. And I rarely if ever use the term "elitist" because I don't think it's a very clear term. I use the term "elites" to refer to the GOP elites who run the party, because "elite" simply means someone who has a lot of power in a group of people, it's not an insult per se.

As far as I recall I've been taking the words of Freepers at face value and not assuming any ulterior motives. That doesn't go for Romney and Rove though. I know they're RINOs and that they love the idea of kicking Akin and those like him out of the party.

I've also said that Akin should drop out if a few weeks go by and he can't get his poll numbers up. But I've also said that the RNC needs to restore his funding or at least run anti-McCaskill ads. They are doing undeniable harm to the cause of beating McCaskill by withdrawing funding. So I'll continue to say that the drumbeat against Akin is irrational when the RNC is doing equal if not greater harm to our cause of winning the Missouri Senate seat.

What oppo research? Where has this been published?

It's pretty scary how much McCaskill and the Dems are living rent-free inside a lot of conservative heads out there. It's not a good thing to be this fearful of losing the election. Fear leads to the dark side and all that. Just ask the good Emperor. ;)

I get very angry when anyone CANNOT see the disaster of losing the senate because of some holy revelation the rest of us are not privy to.

Which just reinforces my claim that people are too emotional and irrational on this topic. Not to mention, we only need to win THREE Senate seats to make it a tie, with Ryan as the tiebreaker. And Joe Manchin pledged to vote with us to overturn Obamacare in his VA campaign, so we only need 2 pick-ups to do that. Yeah, we could use as many seats as we can get, but I don't think we're headed for any kind of abject disaster in the Senate electorally. The presidency is MUCH, MUCH MORE at risk going by ALL the polling. Romney's unfavorability is unprecedentedly, historically low for a candidate at this stage. We're way ahead on a lot of the Senate races, around where Akin was before the gaffe.

Why? You claimed McCaskill has oppo research beyond the gaffe he made this week. Until you provide evidence of that, you're the one whose making asinine statements. Of course, I understand perfectly well from paying attention to the Democrat side of the aisle for a while how some like to reduce the debate to petty ad hominem attacks and insults when they run out of facts to back up their claims.

I don’t know anything about Akin, and a 12 year, good voting record sounds great, but I did catch most of his interview on the Hannity show, and he gave me the willies.

I’m ready for a good conservative underdog fight, but Akin seemed creepy that day, fixated on winning the next office, self absorbed, vain, and rigid, egoistical in a quiet, mock Christian way, is he always like that?

Your Post #67 is spot-on.

You described the MO of Akin supporters perfectly. Obtuse and in denial.

They engage in a tactic called mis-direction. It’s usually used by individuals or groups trying to deflect legitimate criticism from their candidate or issue. For example, if a person criticizes Akin, invariably you’ll see one of them say “But what about Romney...” or something similiar to what you described.

If Akin loses, it’ll be all of OUR fault that he lost. In no way, shape or form could it ever be Akin’s fault for (a) being incapable of fielding a hostile question properly or (b) having the biological and antomical knowledge of a sixth grader.

Do you think McCaskill is gonna publish her oppo research, genius?!? Where? OppoWiki.com? It was a stoooopud question.

I will take no joy when October rolls around and the McCaskill campaign has non-stop Akinisms from his many years in politics..when no one really paid close attention to the goofy things he said...until now.
