Poll: Akin support drops, voters want another candidate
Politico ^ | 8/25/12 | Alexander Burns

The most remarkable stat in the poll may be this from the crosstabs: even voters who say they are supporting Akin think he should withdraw by a 16-point margin, 50 percent to 34 percent. That suggests there's a floor for a Republican Senate candidate in Missouri, but that conservatives in the state would rather have a different option in the race

Romney’s the nominee, and compared to Zero he’s 1000X better.

Akin's the nominee, and compared to McCaskill he’s 1000000X better.

I’m not giving Emperor Palpatine the benefit of the doubt. He is a professed libertarian who has been openly hostile and insulting on this forum to the Christian conservative wing of the party. There’s no doubt to benefit from in his case.

I’m not accusing other Akin critics of anything inparticular, other than some who are clearly just spewing talking points without having thought things through. I’m just trying to point out where I think their reasoning is flawed.

And I refuse to feel any self-doubt at all about defending a good man and a good conservative Congressman like Akin against a hostile barrage of attacks like few have ever seen in politics. Rarely do you see both parties attacking one person so intensely. I hate to think how anyone would feel under that kind of unrelenting barrage of criticism, knowing that they did nothing wrong under either God’s law or the law of the land. It appears a lot of conservatives are acting emotionally, out of fear that they’re going to lose this election. Bad things happen when a mob of people are motivated by fear, things like the Salem witch trials.

Statements that were so outlandish that caused him to go from a lead to now a 9 point deficit.

It's the party piling on him and the ensuing herd mentality among some GOP faithful that is responsible for some of that point loss.

“Akin was seen as a bad candidate by many people, even though he won 6 consecutive house terms. That doesn't even pass the smell test.”

If Mr. Akin is such a strong candidate why is he trailing Claire McCaskill by 10 points. Are you saying it is because she is a super strong candidate that no conservative could possibly defeat?

Why are the Democrats all trying to keep Mr. Akins from dropping out of the race if they don't support him? That makes no sense. I never said Mr. Akins was not a conservative. I said he is probably not intelligent enough to win against a very weak candidate.

Besides, Romney ain’t a commie!

Despite Romney designing the prototype for ObamaCare, i.e. CommieCare, and its accompanying wealth redistribution from those who have more money to those who have less?

Best for you to stick to those dense, leading questions if you hope to continue flying under the radar here.

C'mon. Anyone being criticized like that by both parties for several days is going to suffer a point loss. If every single Democrat came out today and called Obama a Communist who's trying to destroy America, don't you think he'd suffer some point losses?

Also, Akin was up by 9 points before this gaffe. So the rumored Democrat strategy of supposedly helping to nominate him had been failing pretty miserably for a while until a rather random event. Not buying the conspiracy theories on this one that the Democrats had this planned all along.

ALCON Now hear this: We will all cease and desist from continued public pummeling of one of our own (at least we will, if we have any sense):

http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/2012/08/friday-afternoon-roundup-carjackers-and.html

The link contains comments on several topics, one of which is a choice piece entitled: "The Akin Follies."

It starts like this:

THE AKIN FOLLIES

What I have to say isn't so much about Akin specifically, but in general terms how to react to cases like this. Much of the public takes its general impression of whether there is a problem by how the people who are running things react to it. If they react with hysteria, apologies, condemnations and a circular firing squad... they assume that there is a problem and that it is a very serious problem and that it indicates a basic failure of leadership.

Snip

Read and heed.

Ya know, I wouldn't feel that pressure, because I wouldn't have made such idiotic statements, such as "legitimate rape", but I am not a martyr for the conservative cause, all I am is a common blue collar worker, who is looking for a non Joe Biden gaffe prone conservative to defeat Claire Mccaskill.

Are democrat voters smarter, more individualistic, or are republican voters just sheep that can’t think for themselves?

Like I said, every group is sheep to some extent. The entire media and education system is pushing the country to the left. So naturally both parties get pushed to the left. However the Democrat base likes that, the Republican party base doesn't.

Actually people that share you view of the conservative base, are overwhelmingly democrat voters.

While it helps that as lefty as you are, that our conservative economics gets your vote, it seems that we only win you by a hair, as your natural instincts are with the left.

Wish we were all as perfect as you. Maybe you can run for Senate yourself or even replace Rush Limbaugh, so we won't get any more unhelpful "slut" comments. But if you want to run in Missouri, you'll have to relocate. Until then, you don't have any say in who their representatives are.

I understand, but I was not only talking about emperor palpatine. Haven’t followed his posts, but I have followed alot of yours since this whole fiasco began. You have been very vocal and passionate, which is fine, but when you go to accusing long standing FReeper conservatives of being rinos or elitist just because they don’t agree with you, you have gone too far.

I think we all need to take a long deep breathe and drop this whole inter fighting. Like I said...you want Akin...then get him across the finish line. We certainly will not stop you or stand in your way. In fact, a few of us might find a way to help before it is all said and done...but certainly not if we are threatened and harassed.
Try to be generous in spirit to understand there are legitimate reasons that many of us worry about his ability to win and/or not stick his foot in his mouth again.

Time will tell if each of us made the right decision about him, but right now we are all being played by the enemy for their benefit.
