(Reuters) Missouri conservatives say they are rallying around U.S. Senate candidate Todd Akin despite his controversial comments about rape because they are outraged that establishment Republican Party leaders tried to railroad him out of the race.
A backlash has set in here in Akins suburban St. Louis congressional district, where supporters said the national party had no right to attempt to force out a duly-elected candidate.

“Let me just say this first. Im pro-life. But Akins remarks were beyond asinine and insulting, especially to the thousands of women who get pregnant from rapes each year.”
Thank you for your post. Sorry to hear about what your friend is going through. I am shocked by the people who are defending these comments that even Akin has acknowledged were wrong. How are people missing how these comments re-victimize victims? These women who gave birth to their babies under trying circumstances should be lauded for their sacrifice and respect for life, instead of being made to feel small or somehow complicit. I really respect your friend and the decision she made to give that baby life.
Whence doth the storm wind bloweth
That causeth such fright
On those who sail tonight?
Be it from port or s'board
Shall the ship be run aground
Ere safe port be found?
The Socialists who have taken over our government picked McCaskill to be the point man for Obamacare, and there is nothing they will not do to keep her in office.
The Akin case is a situation of where OPPORTUNITY met INTENT, and the distraction from Fast/Furious was of paramount importance.
Now, now...don't be such an archaic fuddy-duddy.
You have to use "spontaneous abortions" instead of miscarriages to be understood in these "PC" days.
There's a whole new language being used and VictoryGal may not understand you.
A woman’s body CAN shut down pregnancy. If he had meant that it always does then he would have said that pregnancy is NON-EXISTENT from legitimate rape.
Can non-detected gestational diabetes kill babies? Be very, very careful in what you say because if you say that it can, you just called me or my body defective and a baby-killer. Of course, if you say that it can’t, then you’re calling the medical community lying thieves for harping on testing for gestational diabetes when it is so harmless.
See what happens when we play grievance politics? Nobody is safe under those rules. You’re darned if you do and darned if you don’t. That’s the game these people are playing with us. If we play along with it we are fools.
Undetected gestational diabetes kills babies. That is most likely why my daughter died. My body was defective.
I want the medical world to take that seriously because I don’t want anybody else to lose their baby like I lost mine. There is no place for emotional grievance politics. It is a waste of time, emotion, and energy. If the battle against gestational diabetes was stopped because addressing it candidly would be too offensive to those of us who are victims of gestational diabetes... my emotions would cost some other woman her baby. Or the political fear of my emotions would cost her baby.
I want to be in the business of saving lives. The grievance politics is scum. It steals, kills, and destroys, and anybody who believes the Bible knows who it is that seeks to steal, kill, and destroy.
Your friend did not get pregnant because her body is defective, because she wanted it, or because she lied about being raped. She got pregnant because the sperm and the egg were in the right place at the right time and the Lord allowed a child to be created from it. Nothing Akin said either claims or implies otherwise.
What Akin said or implied is that SOMEONE ELSE may not have gotten pregnant after rape because the egg wasn’t in the right place, because the rape happened before ovulation and adrenaline inhibited ovulation until after the sperm present had died.
Both those paragraphs fit what Akin said and can be true. It is the grievance peddlers who want both you and your friend to believe otherwise. They just want to stir up old hurts so people will turn to them to be the heroes.
If it works they’ll be doing is ALL THE TIME. Do we really want to live that way?
This is a discussion forum. We all express our opinions, some provide facts, some provide source documents, some provide relevant experiences.
VICTORY GAL was providing relevant experience and expressing her opinion on how the furor over Akin's remark affected her, and her friend (a victim of rape).
Debate her assertions, but don't tell people to SHUT UP.
I was called an idiot here for even considering that there might be an autonomic response to stress/fear that might make conception less likely.
I was thinking of adrenaline, and also auditory exclusion and how it may prevent hearing damage in self-defense shootings.
I am still waiting to hear the explanation of how considering these very real phenomena, and the possibility one might occur during a rape, makes me insulting and offensive to women.
There is no way you can be good enough to not get abused by abusers. That is what they do, and you can beat yourself silly over “If only I had done this instead of that, then daddy would not have beaten me....” but that kind of thinking is only going to make sure you stay enslaved forever.
The point at which you are free is when you can say, “Daddy was going to beat me no matter what I did, because Daddy has a problem that I can’t fix. I’m going to live my life with a clear conscience according to what I believe to be right, not trying to manipulate what my Daddy does or doesn’t do to me.”
I know whereof I speak, and so do a lot of people who have been through this process.
Abusers will always “infer” that you were disrespectful, selfish, evil, etc. That is what they do. If you live your life in fear of that you make them your masters.
We have to learn this. We REALLY have to learn this.
They allow you to attenuate sound from a specific source by tightening up. Some people have injured the bones and can't do that so they have difficulty localizing sound.
Loud noise can damage them.
The reproductive tract has nothing comparable. Your analogy fails.
I am one of those posters who reads EVERY POST, and tries to respond to every post made to me. Many times, on a thread with so many comments, I lose track of who said what, and include comments that should have been said to a different party.
In this case I threw you in with the rest of 'public opinion', and that wasn't right. I apologize.
I still don't think Akin said anything wrong. I think the public is being played as fools, and unfortunately, most of them are. I don't know if I would vote for Akin (regardless to his comment), but I know I want McCaskill OUT.
Maybe he was just having a bad day, but theres no way to spin it as anything other than stupid. Even he has admitted that.I just watched Fox and there was a round-table discussion and the two women were darn-near livid, calling Akin every name in the book (like angry children) that was allowable on television. I think one woman is a conservative and not sure of the other, however, I do know that they both came across ugly. They agreed women should have rights over their own bodies. Ugh!!! Women don't like men telling them what to do when it makes them feel guilty. And that's why Akin is being condemned. Abortion is murder no matter how you slice it. You go Todd! You too Huck!!
It's up to us to stay on topic,16 trillion in debt, no budget three years,no energy plan, not running the govt. but campaigning instead 200 times, playing golf while seal team 6 was underway from bagram to go get osamma,on and on it goes.
We can't get unnerved when they try and create non-issues to get us away from talking about what the true issues are.
So now I'm a leftist because I point out that you're being manipulated and you don't seem to realize it?!
ROTFLOLAPIMP
The whole topic can get just totally out of hand.
Except for the groups I mentioned to you, most humans have, at best, access to less than suitable sperm!
Big advantage though is a Sa'ami can withstand 6 hours of stasis in freezing cold water and the rest of the world is limited to a good 20 minutes.
You gotta' to expect some differences!
If Akin has no chance I would like him to step aside and give somebody else a chance.
But if this is how we’re going to let the dims play the grievances game, we’re going to lose no matter who is the candidate. The loss in the polls is probably different factions trying to leverage for a particular candidate other than Akin. Maybe they’ll succeed; maybe not. But when we’ve got the final candidate we’re going to have to play for keeps, and that’s going to be hard to do if we don’t learn to recognize the political agitators and their methods.
Women have always been the squishy voters. They are always targeted for these kinds of crappy games. The people who are wheedling about Akin warring against women are the same people who side with the Arab Spring, in which Christian women are kidnapped, raped, forced into marriage, and forcibly converted to Islam, where husbands can rape their wives without penalty their whole life long and can have them stoned to death for adultery without any evidence.
At some point we have to get real. Women have to stop being suckers and see both the trees and the forest. I say that as a woman. There is compassion, and then there is just stupidity. For a lot of women it’s harder to see the difference because we have such a tendency to compassion. But I would be crazy to be so “compassionate” to raped women that I deliver them from the likes of Akin in order to hand them over to Huma Abedin’s father and mother.
No, you are definitely to my left ~ and you should keep up on your reading so you could better understand the tack I’m taking on the issues on this thread.
Well, it started because he gave a dumb answer to a simple question. That’s worth remembering.
There is also little doubt that Democrats are overplaying this, so for once the Stupid Party may get out-stupided. Reportedly, the Democrats have reshuffled their convention speaker line-up to feature pro-abortion people. That won’t help Obama - although the press will love it, I’m sure.
So we’ve got that going for us.
...on the other hand I know how to manipulate Google.com.
Oh, so you think manipulation, even keyword manipulation, is a good thing.
I never knew that about you.
Thanks for sharing that insight into who you are.
So, tell me, which end of the pyramid are you most concerned with?
I don’t see how Akin’s comments re-victimize anybody. When did Akin ever say that a woman can only get pregnant if she wants it? He was commenting about there being some natural protections for raped women because of the body’s fight-or-flight chemicals. How does that turn into “A woman can only get pregnant if she wants it?”
From what I can see, Akin would agree with everything you just said, and so would everybody on this thread, probably. So what are we fighting about?
We’re fighting because there are grievance pimps who are claiming that Akin says that if a woman gets pregnant after rape it must be because she’s either lying about the rape or wanted to get pregnant anyway. He didn’t say either, and the grievance pimps are effectively playing us for fools.
