Former Virginia Congressman Virgil Goode has turned in 20,500 signatures in his quest to make the presidential ballot in his home state, an effort that could potentially derail Republican Mitt Romney's presidential aspirations in a critical battleground state.
At least 10,000 valid signatures are due Friday at noon to the State Board of Elections to make the ballot. Election officials will next send the petitions to local registrars to verify the signatures.
Goode said he is optimistic he'll qualify, but just this week, the Constitution Party was forced to back out of the presidential race in Pennsylvania after the Republican Party challenged the validity of its petitions. There, Goode and his running mate, Pennsylvania native James Clymer, amassed 35,000 signatures -- 15,000 more than needed -- but the GOP raised issues with signatures from unregistered voters and names that did not match addresses.
"The Republicans have challenged wherever they can, wherever they feel like they can do it successfully," Goode said.
Republicans and Romney have the most to lose by Goode's presence in the race, particularly in Virginia. Goode remains popular in conservative circles in southern Virginia, an area where he served as a pro-gun, pro-life Democrat in the state Senate, and in Congress as a Democrat, Republican and independent between 1997 and 2009.

Your actions aid and assist obama - A COMMUNIST -for four more years. It's never too late for you to switch your vote for an actual Conservative. Well, November 7th is too late - all the more reason that you should get busy, get on the phone, canvas your neighborhood with Goode signs and get it done.
Did it not occur to you that in voting the liberal mitt and obie your actions aid and assist socialism for generations?

To paraphrase George W. Bush,
LOL! Now you're reduced to stealing thoughts from RINOs? Just quit while you're a behind.
Oh GWB was a RINO, but he was right about that.
I've got a little more time in on this forum as compared to you n00b,
Makes your abandonment of Conservatism all the more tragic. I'll take a young Conservative over an old CINO any day.
What 'young conservative' are you thinking of? Are Sarah Palin, Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Rick Perry, Herman Cain (all of whom are supporting Romney & Ryan) 'CINO's and sellouts?
Your words and deeds serve no purpose other than to sow discord and benefits 0bama.
We've seen lots of trolls with recent sign up dates, so you can be sure that when you ultimately ride the lightning, you'll have lots of company with you.
Mr Mod? Keep an eye on that n00b. 'siriusly'.

No, I wasn’t including 1984. We only have Obama because the GOP nominee standards have been so low for so long that someone like McCain could get the nomination. Romney will just continue the eradication of our founding principles. I still want Romney to win but only by a small margine.

No, I don’t count on the Constitution. It hasn’t restrained Presidents of either party. I’m counting on patriots finally saying enough is enough and that won’t happen with a GOP President. My preference for this election is for Romney to win and for conservatives to choose one candidate to take his place in 2016. We have to coalesce behind one conservative by 2014.

Our views are not that much different. I do think that after 4 years of 0bama that America has been innoculated to the excessive and insidious expansion of federal power and if Romney wants to be re-elected in 2016, he must tilt to starboard (to the right), and conservatives both on the street and those who will be elected to office both this year and in 2014 will be watching Romney very closely and I do not believe that Vice President Paul Ryan is going remain silent if he observes traditional (or even non-traditional) liberal behavior coming out of President Romney. As long as we can get that lyin' jug-eared SOB out of the White House, we've got a shot at turning things around.

That’s right. We have to pull the country out of the meat grinder before we can stop the bleeding.
