COMMERCE, Mich. Did Mitt Romney make a birther joke?
It sure seemed like it Friday morning as he made remarks before a crowd of more than 10,000 here in Michigan, the state where he was born and raised.
I love being home, in this place where Ann and I were raised, where both of us were born, Romney said as his wife, Ann, and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) stood next to him on the podium.
Ann was born in Henry Ford Hospital, I was born in Harper Hospital. No ones ever asked to see my birth certificate; they know that this is the place where both of us were born and raised, he said.
Romney actually did release his birth certificate in May.
If we could only get Mitt to say he would release his tax records when Obama releases his college transcripts....
That is what I really want the Romney campaign to do. We all know Obama made bad grades and I don’t really care. I suspect these records might show that he applied as a foreign student and obtained financial aid fraudulently.
Everytime Romney is asked about his taxes he should simply reply “where are the transcripts and what is the President hiding”?
That would be what the Obama campaign would love. It would take all conversation off this lousy economy. A distraction is the reason they want the tax records released.
It wasn't a joke!
reporters gasped
Now that's funny! LOL!!!
Not releasing the tax records IS a huge distraction and an unpopular position. Did you notice how badly it destroyed Romney in the South Carolina primary among Republican voters? And when he did finally release one return, it didn't create a huge scandal or hurt him. The reporting on them wasn't anything shocking for a rich guy. Creating the fear of the unknown and the sense that he is hiding something is much worse.
Weeks ago there was an idea suggested somewhere that any who want to, obtain a baseball glove/mitt, paint or Magic Marker “2012” or “NOV. 2012” on it, and display in rear window ledge of car; on a stake for yard, or wherever. .
This is GREAT.
Now just imagine if he’d selected Rubio or Jindal or anyone else with Article II eligibility problems as VP — no way could he have been this “in your face” bold.
I like it.
I like it very much.
Hee hee!
Yes, because Romney’s grandparents escaped the USA so they could marry whom they liked, regardless of USA laws. Then his father returned to the USA to enter politics. So yeah, no one needs to see Romney’s birth certificate because his family history is quite clear.
I totally agree...it would be great if he said, “I’ll show you mine if you show me yours”.
I also suspect that this unlawful admin already got his returns and thinks if he releases them, they can spend all the time from now to Nov talking abt the rich guy and not how lousy their guy is. You KNOW they have seen his returns...
But I loved his dig at the “alien” president...
I’ll take it for right now!
Stupid thing to say even if he was joking. He’s just given the media more ammunition to use against him.
Glad I won’t be voting for the commie or the cultist in November.
I thought it was funny.
However, the Romney camp has to learn that you fight Obama by putting them on the defensive. He does not want to release his college transcripts and has paid good money to hide them. Why? He has told us that he did not make good grades and benefited from affirmative action policies. I don’t think anyone really cares about his grades. The only reason that I can think of to hide his records would be if he attended school as a foreign student.
That would constitute a crime of fraud then or fraud now. It would be a very big deal. I bet they would stop asking for his tax records.
Yup, still no photograph of Obama’s birth certificate.
Fear and Obamacare will drive the rest. ;-]
OK, another vote in the Obama column.
Good thing you're not running the campaign.
Once was plenty. The media will carry the ball from here on - they will ask about it at every unscripted event, and Romney, if he's smart, will shrug and smile and say, "of course I believe what the President has said...".
This will end the tax return demands - if the RATs are smart, which some of them are, and it will plant a nagging doubt for the enemedia to water - THEY won't be able to let this go, because THEY think it will hurt Romney, while Romney can basically step back and stay out of it.
It was BRILLIANT, just as is.
Right on both counts.
That's why this "joke" was so damn brilliant.
It wasn't a joke - it was a threat. And threats are something the Chicago boyz and their bosses understand very, very well.
I don't imagine - unless Team Obama is really, REALLY stupid - that you will hear another peep about Romney's tax returns.
Don't worry - Axelrod, Ayers, Jarrett, Klonsky and the rest of the directors of Team Obama understood the "joke" very well - you won't hear about the tax returns again, which was the point.

No, no, no!
It WOULD hurt Romney to bring this up more than once. It WOULD hurt him to address it as anything other than a "joke".
But now, the MEDIA will do the job for him, by bringing it up over and over and over....
