The irony of President Barack Obama is best captured in his comments on the death of Trayvon Martin, and the ensuing fray. Obama has pitched his presidency as a monument to moderation. He peppers his speeches with nods to ideas originally held by conservatives. He routinely cites Ronald Reagan. He effusively praises the enduring wisdom of the American people, and believes that the height of insight lies in the town square. Despite his sloganeering for change and progress, Obama is a conservative revolutionary, and nowhere is his conservative character revealed more than in the very sphere where he holds singular gravityrace.
Part of that conservatism about race has been reflected in his reticence: for most of his term in office, Obama has declined to talk about the ways in which race complicates the American present and, in particular, his own presidency. But then, last February, George Zimmerman, a 28-year-old insurance underwriter, shot and killed a black teenager, Trayvon Martin, in Sanford, Florida. Zimmerman, armed with a 9 mm handgun, believed himself to be tracking the movements of a possible intruder. The possible intruder turned out to be a boy in a hoodie, bearing nothing but candy and iced tea.

Ruining America is white man’s work.
Since qwhen should anyone with the first name Ta-Nehisi be given a scintilla of credence is beyond me.
That said, I have no fear of a Black president. Not if that Black president were Herman Cain, Alan West, JC Watts, Walter Williams or Thomas Sowell.
Even Condoleezza Rice, with her less-than-perfect record on abortion and affirmative action...not to mention admitting to being a lifelong Cleveland Browns fan, would be scary to me.
Its Zero’s politics that scare me, not his factory paint job.
He got very upset when I asked if he would hire a recent high school culinary arts graduate to work in his catering business. When he said no it lead to so VERY interesting sidebar conversations.
Having said that, I have, IMHO, the final judgment of the Emperor's rule:
Obama stands an excellent chance of being the ONLT Black President. Regardless of party the next Black person who runs for the Presidency will be immediately branded by the opposing party as “Obama Lite”. It took the Republic over a century to get to the “First Black President” and I am fearful that it will take the Republic another century, or more, before it considers having another one. And that, IMHO, will be the true legacy of Obama.
Obama is not black he is half-white..
He is as white as he is black..
He is not black.. or white...
Ta-Nehisi sounds like he/she has been hittin’ da happy smoke. A so-called writer pimping the race card is very cheap and unbecoming. Morons will be morons.
He’s not black, he’s a mullato, raised by white grandparents.
He became “black” when he started going to college (to take advantage of the color of his skin). He’s the biggest fake and phoney to ever take residence at 1600 PA Ave. He can’t tell you his name without reading off a teleprompter. The teleprompter goes out and he sounds like an illiterate that got kicked out of school in the eight grade.
Great satire!
SportinLife.
Of course, The Atlantic stopped being relevant under Reagan, and The Nation under Bush, so sweet tears of dinosaur media extinction, etc...
Quite right! I’ve also head this concoction called ‘purple drank.’ Nothing innocent here.
“Racism is not merely a simplistic hatred. It is, more often, broad sympathy toward some and broader skepticism toward others.”
Coates got that right, but failed to look in the mirror!
The Luos aren’t Arabs.
Boy George would do a better job than Zero.
Te-Nehisi is seemingingly compelled by their blackness to defend both the President and Trayvon Martin.
That they are both indefensible for reasons that have nothing to do with their color is beyond his comprehension.
It's a sad case. Jesse and Al know they're scamming the system. Te-Nehisi is simply the victim of his own prejudices.
That the public will see that his true birth certificate reads:
Race: CAUCASIAN.
I suppose I’m a no good cracker then (NGC). That dribble made no sense whatsoever
(yeah, I know its a guy, but thats a chick name if ever I heard one....)
If you hadn’t posted that, I would still think it was a female. I didn’t delve into the writers bio. What was the mother thinking?
