Todd Akin to Claire McCaskill: You Should Drop Out
abcnews.go.com ^ | Aug 23, 2012

Posted on 08/23/2012 2:38:25 PM PDT by Tailgunner Joe

After days of ignoring Republican pleas to abandon his U.S. Senate campaign in Missouri, Rep. Todd Akin today received an even more damning message: A new Rasmussen poll shows that Akin, who held a tidy lead before making his controversial comments about rape and pregnancy, is now down 10 percentage points (48-38 percent) to incumbent Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill.

Never fazed, the Akin campaign shot back with an unlikely proposal.

“The fact that Claire McCaskill is only polling at 48 percent after 72 hours of constant negative attacks on Todd Akin shows just how weak she is,” Akin spokesman Perry Akin said in a statement. “If she can’t break 50 percent after a week like this, Democrats should ask Claire to step down.”

McCaskill, whose political career might well have been saved by Akin’s moment of madness, went online to cast doubt on the validity of the survey.

“Rasmussen poll made me laugh out loud,” she tweeted. “If anyone believes that, I just turned 29. Sneaky stuff.”

McCaskill then linked to a story from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel claiming Rasmussen, with its ties to high-powered Republican operatives like Karl Rove, had intentionally stretched the spread in an effort to push Akin out of the race.

The final deadline for Akin to withdraw is Sept. 25. After that his name cannot be replaced on the ballot. But there is no indication he’s even considering it.

Today, he reported on his Facebook page, ”Thousands and thousands of people have stepped up today and helped us raise over $100,000 in donations as small as $3. The message is loud and clear… the people of Missouri believe they should pick candidates, not party bosses or Washington elites.”

The only way to ease up the attacks by the left is for this guy to get out...

It's one thing to say the guy is an idiot and should go, but if what you wrote above is your real motivation... you are incredibly naive. The way to make the Left go nuclear is to have their whining and bitching rewarded. They are petulant children. Treat them that way. Ignore them.

Whether or not Akin stays in the race is between Akin and the GOP. Anyone basing their actions and support off the advocacy or condemnation of the Left has no sense of history or reality.

Thank you so much, your so sweet! I dont have any beef with Todd Akin, I had no clue who he even was before the Missouri Primary, I just want to take control of the Senate, to defeat Obamacare. If Akin can somehow win, wonderful, I would be the first to congratulate him but it just doesn’t look good. Maybe if he had said this months ago people would have forgotten, but this close to the election, the Dems will make sure no one forgets

Akin belongs in the Dem party, he is more nuts than the Cocoa Puffs bird.

That's right. Anyone who is so pro-life that they think that children conceived in rape should not be summarily executed is a freaking right wing nut job and should never be allowed anywhere near the Senate.

I note that your tone has changed somewhat since you posted this attack on Akins, but your attitude is pervasive on this forum and it does not bode well for the pro-life movement that Freepers are ganging up on a guy who has a better conservative record than Sarah Palin.

Akin has awakened me to the fact that I have not been consistently pro-life. I have wavered on the issue when it comes to victims of rape, but this Akin controversy has awakened my soul to the fact that there is no justification for the taking of an innocent life by abortion. None. The baby is innocent and deserves to live even if the sperm donor deserves to die.

As a matter of fact, I understand EXACTLY what he said because I’ve probably read the same report he is referencing. I don’t embrace junk science from any political persuasion.
Doubling down on stupidity isn’t Conservatism, it’s just stupidity.

Romney's a hold-your-nose candidate, Ryan's an over-broken-glass candidate.

Until the banjo-player derailed things with his trailer-park gynaecological musings the narrative was all about Ryan and fiscal reform.

Now we're back to the same tired old routine of trying to herd the crazy uncles back into the attic before the media can milk them for toxic sound bites.

I am very pro life. I have NO beef with Akin, but after seeing today’s polls which show that even Romney now is losing in Missouri that is what matters to me. Akin is becoming toxic to the Romney campaign and that is what scares me. Dems have no morals, they can have sex with 17 year olds in the back seats of cars after posting Ads on Craigslist and nothing happens, when a Republican says something its national news.
My tone with Akin is because I dont want to lose that Senate seat, I want to defeat Obamacare. I could care less about Akin, I want that seat! And I think that should be what everyone wants. If I lived in Missouri Akin would of course have my vote, but look and what has occurred in the past week, from being up 11 to being down 10, thats not something to be happy about, its downright scary

Earlier on this thread you said the following:

"Akin belongs in the Dem party, he is more nuts than the Cocoa Puffs bird."

Funny way to express your lack of beef.

than yeah I am gonna be pissed

There's that word again!

We need a new list of non-listers so we can do a thread hijack!

Not a personal beef, but if he loses, than we all lose.

And if he wins?????

What will that do for the pro-life cause?

If he loses we lose no ground we haven't held before. If Akin can win, then we have captured the entire field.

So he's in.

Are you in?

Or are you out?

If Akin wins(God willing) I would be the first one to go shake his hand and congratulate him. Can he still win, I guess a lot can happen between now and the election, it doesnt look good but stranger things have happened. Like I said, if I lived in MO he would have my vote

If Akin wins(God willing)

If Freepers (of all people) can't see their way to support him, then he is probably finished. I thought we were the resistance, but it seems too many of us have been assimilated by the GOP Borg Machine.

It is still early. These media feeding frenzies have a shelf life of about 2 weeks on average. After that people go back to voting their pocketbooks.

Akin can win, but he is going to need our help. We can kick him to the curb and stomp his head into the sidewalk, or we can support him. It really is up to conservatives whether they want to join the Borg or the resistance. It is so much easier to be assimilated than to fight the establishment. People like you when you assimilate. They hate you when you rock the boat. I know. I've made few friends and many enemies on this forum. I don't go along to get along. It's not my style.

If he’s not going to drop out, he should quit talking about it. When people ask him about it, just say that’s already been addressed, asked and answered, or no comment and pivot to some the outlandish stupid stuff that Claire and Obama have done.

Heck a can of beans would be be better than Claire/Obama/Biden. So I’ll vote for Akin anyway. I was hoping either of the other 2 would win, but they didn’t.

I just hope that after all the craziness comes to an end(And your right usually this kind of stuff has a 2 week shelf life) and people in MO still realize they are out of work and living in a horrible economy, that McCaskill will down the drain again just like she did before.
I dont live in MO so obviously I cant do much but if he’s staying in the race obviously I am going to support him and hope that he wins.
