Todd Akin hasn't had many high-profile supporters with him in the trenches this week, but Mike Huckabee became an important and emphatic exception Thursday afternoon, sending a message to his own supporters accusing Republican elites of trying to drum a good man out of a winnable Senate race. Here's what Huckabee said in an email to his list this afternoon:
Partys leaders have for reasons that aren't rational, left [Akin] behind on the political battlefield, wounded and bleeding, a casualty of his self-inflicted, but not intentional wound.

The majority of the population of the state reside in the KCmetro and St. Louismetro areas.

Very interesting: I used to live in Oregon, and if you wanted the state, whether candidacy-wise or most (not all) referenda, you pretty much just had to win the Portland Metro area and Multnomah County. You get that locked up in sufficient numbers, and you pretty much win the whole ball of wax.

Akin has become the third rail. As long as he is still running, the MSM will ensure that REPUB candidates are zapped everyday in every way.

And then along comes Akin pumping life into the liberals sacred cow 'women's right to choose' and now who do you think those sensitive so call independents are going to vote for.... most especially the 'women'.And you reveal what the attack on Akin is ALL about. You don't want the Republican party to be a pro-life party. You'd rather "win" by marching down a trail of dead, bloody, unborn baby body parts. Well, real conservatives are fed up with that attitude. We want candidates who unashamedly speak up for pro-life, anti-abortion values and implement them while in office. There are some issues where there is no room for compromise. So, like the GOP elites, you either have a screwed-up, immoral value system, or you're just a coward who won't fight for what's right if you perceive any risk to it at all.
Bottom line, the idea of becoming the "John Stewart" party is an abhorrent, disgusting one. We should use our bully pulpit to educate and inform people of the changes this country really needs, not to water ourselves down to the lowest common denominator.

We are stuck with Akin so might as well try to win Before you tell everyone to "STFU," maybe you should education yourself. Akin has it within his power to quit before Sept 25 so the state party committee can appoint a replacement. The only penalty is the cost to reprint ballots.
The ones who need to STFU is Mr. Akin and Huckabee.
Akin's gone from 11 points ahead to 10 points down. That's on HIM, not Romney, not the establishment, not Sarah Palin or anyone else calling for Akin to be a man, be a leader, accept full responsibility and step aside for the good of his cause rather than dig in for his ego.

It cannot be expressed how irrational and ignorant it is to plan a Republican campaign around the idea that you can do ANYTHING to get the MSM to stop attacking you. That's like the battered wife who keeps going back to the abusive husband thinking she can get him to treat her better this time.

I’ve never actually “hated” Huckabee. In fact, I even gave him my vote in the 2008 primary (albeit it was really an anti-McCain ‘protest’ vote, as McCain already had it wrapped up by the time of my state’s primaries). But over and over, I’m not impressed with Huckabee’s judgment. From his open-arms, welcome-mat policy towards illegals in his state, to his granting clemency of violent inmates because they claim they found ‘Jesus,’ to even his horrid endorsement of Dewhurst over Cruz here in Texas... Huckabee is just not someone I’d trust in terms of judgment.

Well I disagree with you. No way he would be 10 points down over a single stupid comment without Romney and co digging his grave.

RUSH came across for Akin today in his first hour. The caller could not get him to bad mouth Akin. We need more good decent men like Akin. Rush also said Akin was ignorant, rather than evil, and should step down but you heard only what you wanted to hear.

In reference to my earlier post to you, I don’t know Missouri’s population dynamics, but in Oregon, 57% of the state’s total population lives in the Portland Metro Area. That’s what explains its disproportional weight, electorally speaking.

What Akin said was idiotic, and it wasn't just a "poor choice of words" - he actually believes in what he said. That makes him toxic, and only his hubris (and Huckabee's money, apparently) kept him from recognizing the fact and withdrawing honorably.
It's too bad that Akin isn't a Morman - Huckabee and his followers would have been leading the charge to drum him out of the race.

How many other pro-life conservatives in the senate will suffer because of this?
If Akin had not been an idiot, many of the people on the right would be in charge of Senate Committees next year.
Instead, the column on the left will direct things.

Anyone who doesnt follow their line of thinking must somewhow be connected with the (insert sinister laugh here) GOP establishment. So then this isn't true:
"There were talking point memos sent from the National Republican Senatorial Committee suggesting language to urge Akin to drop out. Political consultants were ordered to stay away from Akin or lose future business with GOP committees. Operatives were recruited to set up a network of pastors to call Akin to urge him to get out. Money has changed hands to push him off the plank...."

That’s not my point... my point is when he was trimming down he became preachy that we all should do the same, but after he lost his presidential bid he gave up on the notion of trimming down... but yah, fat is not good. Do I hate fat folks? nah, I are one.

“If Akin had not been an idiot, many of the people on the right would be in charge of Senate Committees next year.”
So now we hedge our bets on George Allen, another idiot who made an even dumber comment that was racially charged to win the Virginia seat in a year where a black man is running for president on the democrat side. Between Obama running and the noose that Allen keeps hanging in his office, you can bet every eligible black in Virginia will be crawling over broken glass to get to the polls. And you wonder why Romney/Ryan can’t get traction here in what is a conservative state.
We were better off getting behing Akin.
