Now is the time for courage (Akin, abortion)
WND ^ | August 22, 2012 | Janet Porter

Exclusive: Janet Porter joins pro-life leaders as they stand with Rep. Todd Akin

Want to know why the Republican Party is in such trouble? I believe it comes down to one word: courage.

When Democrats misspeak, we make them vice president. When Republicans misspeak, Republicans are the first in line to throw them under the bus.

When Rep. Todd Akin stood for protecting all innocent human life in a recent interview, he used a word with more than one meaning. He used the word “legitimate” before the word “rape” to mean “real,” “forcible,” a tragic event that “really took place.” Anyone who doesn’t think false claims of rape can be made should check with Norma McCorvey, the “Roe” of Roe v. Wade. The infamous abortion case, based on her false rape claim, has resulted in the deaths of 55 million innocent human lives.

But because “legitimate” could also modify the word rape, some in the Republican Party are practically writing Willie Horton ads about it, pretending that the congressman is “pro-rape” and wants to let rapists out on furlough. This “interpretation” of the congressman’s words doesn’t resemble reality, and everyone knows it.

If Republicans love their country, they will quit using fiction to shoot their own and focus on the real enemies of life: Democrats Claire McCaskill and Barack Obama, who stand for legally sucking the brains out of half-born babies in a procedure called partial-birth abortion.

In America, we shouldn’t kill people for the crimes of their father. And in politics, we shouldn’t kill statesmen for a badly worded sound bite.

Thankfully, there are men and women of courage who stand with Rep. Akin, beginning with the founder of National and International Right to Life, Dr. Jack Willke, who said:

“Congressman Todd Akin remains a strong and courageous

I’m pretty convinced that knowing what we know now, anyone left still backing Akin is in it for McCaskill to win. There’s no other logical reason for it. The man committed political suicide and removes to exit the stage and will have to be yanked off.

I really don’t get it. Why do so many Freepers fail to understand what is going on here.

A solid conservative candidate makes one mistake—mainly the phrase “legitimate rape,” and everyone agrees that he MUST QUIT THE RACE!

Why? Because the baby killers demand it? Because the RINOs and the “conservative” pundits are scared to death? How about fighting back?

Does one minor mistake in wording, in putting forward a legitimate conservative political position (abortion for any reason is wrong, because it takes an innocent life and murders an innocent person).

Fight back, don’t give in to the propaganda spreaders! These democrats and presstitutes are only pretending to be outraged because they LOVE TO MORDER BABIES!

You can quarrel with the exact details of his wording, but the fact remains that “rape” and “life of the mother” have been used as excuses to push abortion on demand for any reason. Whether it’s true that rape results in fewer babies than consensual sex is arguable, but it is certainly true that rape only accounts for a minute percentage of abortions. Yet the left-wing killers pull it out at every excuse.

Fight back! Don’t bend over and let them write the rules about how it’s a woman’s right to kill babies. That’s how these tens of millions of murders got started in the first place, although very, very few of those murders has anything to do with the life of the mother or rape.

Rape is a terrible evil, but it doesn’t excuse committing further evils, or attacking anyone who tries to defend the babies. Which is worse, a small error in speaking, or a guy like Romney who pushed through free tax-payer funded abortion as “health care”? And who is once again bowing down to the liars and saying that it’s OK to murder the innocent baby who was produced by the evil of rape?

Getting pregnant has a lot of variables that have to be “just right.”

On any random day, it is highly unlikely that any woman would get pregnant.

Just about anyone who has gone through the process knows that.

But his wording made him sound ignorant, and that is dangerous in this political climate.

Go ahead, continue to think you can get your message out when the MAIN stream media (I abhor that term) is PROPAGANDIZING for the RAT party. You will never even overtake that.

Sure we can. Otherwise, how do you explain 1994, 1996, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004 and 2010?

There's literally dozens of articles featuring quotes from doctors, OB/GYN's, professors of gynecology, of all political stripes, even Christian doctors who are saying that Akin's comments were possibly the stupidest thing they've ever heard.
There is no medical/biological backing for his comments, he made the same mistake many pro-lifers do by buying into the writings of Willke or some other quack doctor who made various statements that were never scientifically backed.

I think many people are underestimating the ridiculousness of what Akin said, especially the latter part of "the woman's body has a way to shut that whole thing down."

What I've learned is you pick your battles wisely. If you're forces are covered from an elevated position, you don't engage in a pointless firefight that will kill off most if not all your men, you retreat and try to fight a better vantage point to conduct that fight from.

Exactly what I am suggesting.

This is a tempest in a teapot!

I read what Akin said and my reaction is "Meh".

I read some of the reactions here at FR to what Akin has said and I feel like he should be hung for high crimes!

I have no problem with this characterization.

Well guess what, your forces are being shot up all over the place, the enemy is bringing further reinforcements, bodies are lying left everywhere, military command has abandoned your battalion, no more reinforcements are coming on your side and yet the idiot general(Akin)whose poor tactics led to this situation in the first place, is urging you on up the hill to be completely decimated.

You are missing a much larger point. The damage was not "legitimate rape." That could have easily been spun, i.e. forcible.

The damage was his belief how woman “can shut down this whole thing.” Firstly, that "thing" would be rape. Secondly, it was an embarrassing display of ignorance - and fit in so nicely with the current meme of war on woman. The Dems could not have written a better script.

LOL, yes, because the left is going to let up, they will milk this situation for every thing they can get out it and they've yet to really go after Akin, throwing his words all over the place, not to mention having microphones at the ready to capture his next brief moment of idiocy.

By the time all is done and said he'll be lucky to get 30% of the total vote.

And the term legitimate denotes that some rapes are illegitimate.

We all know that a few small minority of rape reports are false. But they are a small minority. Suggesting otherwise again, show ignorance.

Finally, anyone who works in hospitals knows that the first step most hospitals takes is to give an RU42 pill to rape victim. Except in Catholic hospitals. They do a pregnancy test to verify the person is not already pregnant ( if this is with hours of a rape there is zero percent chance that the woman would have conceived.). Then even Catholic hospitals will give the pill.

So, again, if the candidtate knew what he was talking about he could have deflected the question with ease.

It shows more that some of our representatives actually do reflect their constituents—that portion of Americans who do not know basic biology or the common practices of hospitals regarding such a hot button issue. THAT is why he should go.

I made a campaign contribution to Akin a few minutes ago.

That makes me a McCaskill supporter?

What are you doing to help this conservative across the finish line?

One can only hope that the Democrats don't get good at throwing their pols under the bus when they become poisonous.

Anyone have any idea how much more powerful the Democrats would have been if they had been able to toss Teddy under the bus after Chappaquiddick? How about Barney Frank?

It's not like there is not any other liberals to replace them but Democrats nationwide every November have to convince voters that they are NOT them and more often than not, fail.
