Now is the time for courage (Akin, abortion)

Exclusive: Janet Porter joins pro-life leaders as they stand with Rep. Todd Akin

Want to know why the Republican Party is in such trouble? I believe it comes down to one word: courage.

When Democrats misspeak, we make them vice president. When Republicans misspeak, Republicans are the first in line to throw them under the bus.

When Rep. Todd Akin stood for protecting all innocent human life in a recent interview, he used a word with more than one meaning. He used the word “legitimate” before the word “rape” to mean “real,” “forcible,” a tragic event that “really took place.” Anyone who doesn’t think false claims of rape can be made should check with Norma McCorvey, the “Roe” of Roe v. Wade. The infamous abortion case, based on her false rape claim, has resulted in the deaths of 55 million innocent human lives.

But because “legitimate” could also modify the word rape, some in the Republican Party are practically writing Willie Horton ads about it, pretending that the congressman is “pro-rape” and wants to let rapists out on furlough. This “interpretation” of the congressman’s words doesn’t resemble reality, and everyone knows it.

If Republicans love their country, they will quit using fiction to shoot their own and focus on the real enemies of life: Democrats Claire McCaskill and Barack Obama, who stand for legally sucking the brains out of half-born babies in a procedure called partial-birth abortion.

In America, we shouldn’t kill people for the crimes of their father. And in politics, we shouldn’t kill statesmen for a badly worded sound bite.

Thankfully, there are men and women of courage who stand with Rep. Akin, beginning with the founder of National and International Right to Life, Dr. Jack Willke, who said:

“Congressman Todd Akin remains a strong and courageous

You can’t even get the quote correct.,

“It seems to me, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare,” Akin told KTVI-TV. “If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down...”

“To which you contribute. Those soon-to-be aborted babies should thank you.”

The reality, is that Akin will allow McCaskill to remain in the senate. So tell me what her pro-life voting record is?

Face the fact, Akin is toxic. There has been a 20 pt swing in the polls, and this is before McCaskill begins her anti Akin campaign.

He will be gone in two weeks.

“I support Akin, so should you and every Freeper”

Thanks for telling me how to think.

Akin is my representative, and I have voted for him before, but anyone seriously believing that he has a chance in this election is living in a dream land. Have you seen the latest Rasmussen poll?

Tell me how this gets turned around? Be serious now, where is he going to get the millions of dollars? Where is he going to get the volunteers?

What he’s then only conservative in Missouri?
It’s either elect another conservative or hand the seat to the rats. Those are the only real choices.
He’s toast, and he did it to himself.

“We just keep falling for their tricks”

So Akin is a Democratic trick?

Get with reality, Akin is dead. Lets move on I’m tired of arguing in this make believe land.

You MAY be correct. BUT, He didn't do it to himself. Republicans and Conservatives did it to him.

This was a nothing. A poorly worded opinion. A NON event. The dems stirred the pot and all of you went crazy.

If he loses, you have made it a self fulfilling prophesy.

I'm not sure you got my point. The dems “trick” was to get y'all to attack and destroy your own guy, Akin. It seems to be working.

You are in good rino company. The RNC and NRSC won't support him either. The NRSC supported Murkowski over Joe Miller in AK and Crist over Rubio in FL.

Surrender monkeys unite!

>Thanks for telling me how to think.<

You are welcome.

“Akin is dead.”

Yawn.

Akin will be on the November ballot. If he loses it will be due to the surrender monkeys who fled in terror.

“Surrender monkeys unite!”

Ok, lets go to realville as Rush likes to say, and tell me how he pulls out of his 20Pt dive in the polls?

OK, tell me how he raises the millions he will need to run a campaign? Since you are such a firm believer in Akin, I assume you are the one who has donated the $7000.00 dollars he has collected since this started, and not one of the prior donors who have asked for their donations to be returned.

Who is going to help Akin organize his events? Not the national GOP, not the state GOP, and not the county GOP organizations.

Who will be campaigning with him? Who is going to have their name associated with Akin? What company or organization is going to have their name tied to Akin?

Who in their right mind would stay on the ballot and have their name disgraced upon national TV buy the MSM, every comedian out there, and for a week at the Democratic convention. Has he no respect for the impact this will have on his family?

And what about his political legacy? If he stays on and loses he will be an isolated, lonely despised loser of a politician.

He will be gone in two weeks and good riddance.

“Akin will be on the November ballot. If he loses it will be due to the surrender monkeys who fled in terror.”

Well what a convenient position to stake out. If he loses it won’t be because of anything he did, it will be because of the millions of surrender monkeys.

What a safe bet.

Put your money up front, a straight wager, win or lose? Does he beat McCaskill or not. The facts are on the table.

It’s about the Votes dummy. You can not make or repeal laws when you lose.

What makes you think a party that runs like a frightened child from one of their own who makes a dumb comment is gonna stand up to the leftwing media and reform Medicare, or the welfare state, or repeal Obama care once in control?

One. step. at. a. Time.

First, you must get your party elected. Then you make the deals. This is not a complex set of logic and facts.

Huck and Schmuck have made themselves unelectable.
nobody else did it for them.

20.00 US Dollars says akin loses or hopefully drops out.

See you in November or sooner.

Boehner has already made a joke of your 'facts'.

The fact is the GOP has thus far lacked courage for any real reforms when they had the opportunity to do so.

So it comes as no surprise that they would not close ranks around one of their own as the democrats do.

IMO the GOP apparatus refusal to do so stems more from their dislike of the conservative wing of their party - many would rather make common cause with the democrats & media.

He made an ignorant and ill-considered remark that destroyed his ability to get votes outside his base, thereby shooting his campaign not in the foot but through the head - and no amount of defense or support will change that.

Going on the attack would.

Attacking who, and with what ammunition?

“Attacking who, and with what ammunition?”

Exactly, Akin is the most isolated, broke, major candidate in the nation.

Go cower in a corner.

OK, hero, explain how our defense and support will revive Akin's chances with the swing voters.

“.....The dems “trick” was to get y’all to attack and destroy your own guy, Akin. It seems to be working.”
****************************************************************
“...your own guy, Akin” Yes, once he won the primary my support immediately shifted from Sarah Steelman to Todd Akin. Missouri was one of those rare states where we really “couldn’t lose”—the three main Republican primary candidates were all conservatives and they ALL gave every indication that they could move on and soundly defeat McCaskill in November. I, and most FReepers, were really looking forward to that November victory and its contribution to the makeup of the US Senate in January.

I know that you’re too “committed” to recognize the realities here, but Akin’s campaign wasn’t destroyed by any Democrat “trick...to get y’all to attack and destroy your own guy, Akin”. Akin destroyed any possibility of success for his campaign HIMSELF. He drove a sharp knife deep into the abdomen of his campaign and then repeatedly twisted the knife to destroy the internal organs and any possibility of recovery. He then pored gasoline over himself and his dying campaign and lit a match. HE destroyed his campaign and cannot bring himself to recognize this reality.

Akin (as should his followers such as you) needs to heed the Shakespeare character Polonius’ wisdom when he said:

“This above all: to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man.”

Akin is not being true to himself, his family, his supposed beliefs or to the people of this country. And he is certainly not being true to the legions of the yet unborn.

I, and most FReepers understand your loyalty to Akin. Loyalty is a fine quality to be admired—but, I need to be honest with you on this, stupidity is not a quality to be admired.

I hope that Akin recovers from the stupidity with which he is currently afflicted. I hope that he recovers in time to allow a conservative replacement to be elected to the Senate this November. And, to a lesser degree, I hope that his misguided followers recover from their denial and the resulting stupidity which is enveloping them and preventing them from seeing and understanding realities.
