Sarah Palin takes the initiative
The Hill ^ | 08/22/12 08:23 AM ET | By Bernie Quigley

It was an error for the Republicans to bring in New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie as the key speaker at their convention. While all of the excitement and adventure in politics in the last three years has been among conservatives, Christie is the great, faithless bet against conservatives’ future and a futile attempt to institutionalize the past. At CPAC events these last three years, up to 40 percent of young conservatives yearned for Ron Paul and Judge Andrew Napolitano; STATES’ RIGHTS, SOUND MONEY AND CONSTITUTIONAL GOVERNMENT. The other 60 percent — the National Review crowd, the neocons, the Bush apparatus, the entire Eastern Conservative Establishment — could think only of former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush. Christie is their front man, as animated and clownish as a carny barker at the Dixie Classic. Going into the future, conservatives hold all the cards. But they chose the past. Obviously, they should have chosen former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as their lead speaker.

Sarah Palin told Greta Van Susteren on Fox last night that she would support a third-party run in Missouri. Not by accident this announcement comes as the Republican convention opens in Tampa, Fla. Like Romney, she misses nothing. Since Palin — and she was the first — came to the aid of Doug Hoffman in NY-23 in 2009, there has been a positive division in conservatism, which will grow and mature in our century. She is the natural leader of this new direction. In time we will see current economic liberalism disappear entirely. It lost its essential economic purpose when large-scale manufacturing left America and America became a place of smaller businesses. It left Democrats with only the most ephemeral lifestyle and cultural issues.

This shift in economy brings a maturity of economic purpose and is a historic shift. If the last century and a half was represented as a proxy fight between Marx and Keynes, the next in America will be between Keynes and Hayek. Two or three years ago at the CPAC events, the Hayek direction — Ron Paul, Judge Napolitano, Texas Gov. Rick Perry, Sarah Palin — took the initiative. Chris Christie’s trickster dance in Tampa will not send it away. If Obama wins this year, Palin will lead (against Christie/Bush) in the Republican primary in 2016. If Romney wins and yields to the tradition (which he will because his life is stuck in 1972) Palin will bring a challenge.

Key here is we are at a generational shift as large and vital as that of the ’60s, but it is a conservative shift. They just didn’t get the memo yet in Tampa.

Unfortunately Palin is wrong about a third party bid in Missouri.

This is a situation where a third party wouldn't work, but third parties are going to eventually have a serious impact on future elections. With the selection of Romney, following the selection of McCain 4 years ago, it is very clear that the GOP does not give a damn about Conservatives. More and more Conservatives are going to decide not to give a damn about a party that doesn't care about them.

As for Palin being the leading opposition to Bush/Christie in 2016, a whole lot of people were saying she would be the leading opposition to Romney in 2012. We don’t know what Palin is going to do in 2016.

If the ticket in 2016 were Bush or Christie, or even Romney if he somehow wins this year, and Palin ran as an independent, I'd be behind her. I may have differences with some of her viewpoints, but she cares about Conservatives more than the GOP does.

‘I “LOVE” your post other post on this thread with Sarah’s picture!’

Onyx..you are the WO mann! Let’s hope the day comes soon when at least one dimbulb in the RNC realizes the useful genius of the inestimable Sarah...what a travesty that someone like the governor who can fill a 40 thousand seat venue whenever an wherever she sees fit isn’t afforded the opportunity to address the convention...what dunderhead made that wrong turn? This is unfortunate evidence that the ‘dumb’ party aint gettin any smarter anytime soon or any closer to the Tea Party which really represents what it truly means to be ‘AMERICAN’. If these ‘bright boys’ travel any further from us they’ll end up side by side with the dems in the dnc parking lot and America will continue to go nowhere.

I expect to see more of those on FR in the coming days. It has yet to be seen if there will be a purge as well.

Expect? or HOPE?

I think the only 'purge' that will be coming is those who will be retching their guts out after realizing what they have swallowed.

That sums it up quite nicely; though CLOSED primaries WOULD have given us a lot better representation of CONSERVASTIVES if the darned LIBERALS could be kept OUT of the selection process to begin with.

Sorry RUSH; but Operation Chaos works both ways!

“Expect? or HOPE?”

Expect. With the recent change in philosophy at FR from conservative to Any Socialist But Obama, we’ll see a fair portion of those who aren’t willing to ride the willard wagon deciding to take a hike.

And there will be a purge. You’ve been on FR long enough to know that. The irony is that instead of the rudybots, it will be those who oppose an even more liberal candidate.

Oppose?

I'd guess the Slavishly Support folks might ride the lightning due to overreaching their glee.

As it was, they had to fix the caucus outcome in Iowa so it SEEMED that Romney had won. After the spotlight moved on to New Hampshire and Romney’s hometurf, they could say,, OOps! Santorum won. But as you say. the money was never going to anyone but Romney.

I think she wanted the key-note. Looking back, I think the Establishment wishes they had used her in that slot, as a kind of hand-off to Ryan and Romney. It could be they could not get together on theme. The Key-note today is a very different sort of speech from what it was in 1988. IAC. why give the platform to someone who, if things go badly over the next four years, could be a rival?
