WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. government was surprised by the news that a Navy SEAL who participated in the raid on Osama bin Laden's compound in Pakistan has written a book about the operation in which the al Qaeda leader was killed, U.S. officials said on Wednesday.
"No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission that Killed Osama Bin Laden" was written by a Navy SEAL under the pseudonym Mark Owen with co-author Kevin Maurer and is to be released next month on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks.... snip...
"We learned about this book today from press reports. We haven't reviewed it and don't know what it says," White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said....

In before the conspiracy theory ramblings...
So is that football spike about to get Zero an excessive celebration penalty?
Something ain’t right here.
Perhaps “Mark Owen” is a pseudonym for B. Hussein Obama, the man who single-handedly is responsible for killing bin-Laden but has absolutely no responsibility for anything else in the past 3 1/2 years.
Am I mistaken or is this stuff not supposed to be kept classified for like 7 years before they(SEALs/operators) are allowed to publicly discuss it? Then again, with a White House deliberately leaking state secrets like a sieve, the standards really aren’t what they used to be.
Peyton, didnt you hear the whole story?
Obama not only personally led the mission, but he:
* piloted the lead helicopter flying VFR in total darkness;
* put the bird on whisper-mode autohover;
* Australian-rapelled into the courtyard with a crew-served weapon in each hand;
* stopped a three-round burst with his sculpted abs;
* kicked down every door with a head butt;
* took out Bin Laden with a double-tap of .50 cal hollow-point tracer rounds; AND
* recorded the whole event with a camcorder strapped to his schlong!
I am confused. I may have misread the first story I read about this book. I thought the NYTimes version said the book had been vetted via the Pentagon. Why wouldn’t the White House have been privy to that? I guess I will have to go back to the Slimes version and reread.
Lifetime commitment
When a cleared individual leaves the job or employer for which they were granted access to classified information, they are formally debriefed from the program. Debriefing is an administrative process that accomplishes two main goals: it creates a formal record that the individual no longer has access to the classified information for that program; and it reminds the individual of their lifetime commitment to protect that information. Typically, the individual is asked to sign another non-disclosure agreement (NDA), similar to that which they signed when initially briefed, and this document serves as the formal record. The debriefed individual does not lose their security clearance; they have only surrendered the need to know for information related to that particular job.
SF 312 is the form I believe covers the non disclosure agreement these days....
IMHO, someone is stepping up to the plate. And I'll bet the SEALS even drew matchsticks for the "author" job.
obama: “Which one of you killed Bin Laden?”
Seals: “We all did, sir.”
obama: “Which one of you wrote that book?”
Seals: “We all did, sir.”
obama: “Which one of you hates my guts?”
Seals: “We all do, sir.”

Yea, I’ve seen similar NDA’s from my time in the defense contractor biz.
Here’s what I’d love to know about such high-level stuff as this: At what point can the operators and people who are not political hacks tell the truth after the politicians have blown all pretense of security out the windows?
“We learned about this book today from press reports. We haven’t reviewed it and don’t know what it says,” White House spokesman Tommy Vietor said.
The Pentagon said it hadn’t vetted the book or helped provide information to the authors. There are at least two Pentagon regulations requiring the Defense Department review writings by retired troops that contain sensitive material.
“This book came as a surprise to folks at the Pentagon,” a senior defense official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said. “Naturally, we’ll be interested to read the book when it is made available.”
CIA spokesman Preston Golson said: “As far as we can determine, this book was not submitted for pre-publication review.”*********
Oh yeah, sensitive info like this and nobody has any idea what it says. Man, they’ve got all these guys singing in unison.
This stinks to high heaven.
Probably the most accurate of all speculation!
> Perhaps Mark Owen is a pseudonym for B. Hussein Obama
Bingo!
Who exactly is the US Government? I mean, everyone who works for the US Government or just Obama? Is Obama the US Government?
Interesting that in this Army/Navy operation that only the SEALs are involved in all the speculation about being, ambushed, assassinated, and their unit identified, and so on.
