Israel Asks Egypt to Remove Tanks From Sinai
The New York Times ^ | August 21, 2012 | ISABEL KERSHNER

JERUSALEM — Israel is “troubled” by the entry of Egyptian tanks into the northern Sinai Peninsula without coordination with Israel, a violation of the terms of the 33-year-old peace treaty between the two countries, and has asked Egypt to withdraw them, an Israeli government official said Tuesday.

The Israeli request was conveyed within the last few days, the official said, adding that it was likely that the Obama administration had made a similar approach to Cairo.

The Israeli official was speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the fragility of Israel’s relations with Egypt, already strained by the recent upheavals there. The overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak last year stripped Israel of a trusted regional ally.

The reported request from Israel elicited contradictory reactions from Egypt. A spokesman for the Egyptian president, Mohamed Morsi, denied receiving any complaints from Israel. Citing an unidentified military source, Al Ahram, the flagship state-run newspaper, dismissed the matter as a fabrication of the Israeli news media and said that the move had been fully coordinated with the Israeli military.

If there is a war between Israel and Iran, and the Egyptians get frisky, the Israeli air force will make very short work of that entire tank corp. That in turn will result in the collapse of the new Egyptian regime. Things will get ugly.

Do we still have A-10’s in the USAF inventory?

Things are not that cut & dry. The Israeli Air Force will have it's hands full with HAMAS in the South, Hizbollah in the North, possible Syrians in the North East, Iranians in the extreme North East and naval battles in the Med, to the West. This all translates to total war where Israel no longer shows mercy to the Arab capitals and infrastructures as they have done since 1983. Up till now Israel has had to tiptoe and pinpoint bomb targets with minimal collateral damage but if they Arabs go for broke, Israel will have no choice whatsoever to decimate as much as possible forces and sources of trouble - that means lots of dead civilians. Don't worry though, the Arabs, Egyptians and Persians do it to themeselves anyways so who cares?

The A-10 Warthog was assigned to and flown by Air Guard units as it is a close suport aircraft. The plane is not sexy enough for the academy boys who like to flys fast movers. Besides the USAF thinks close support if bombing from 30,000 feet.

Israel had to ask? So, umm, where are Jimmy Carter's Sinai super troopers of the Multinational Force and Observers mission? Can we expect a statement from the senile statesman on this?...somebody go wake him.

Does anyone expect truth, honesty, or respect from the current Egyptian regime?

Nearly every "news" report out of Israel states:

"Israeli official was speaking on the condition of anonymity"

These are nothing more than fabrications by the Israeli PR machine that has expanded its BS list beyond Debka.

Notice how the stories rarely get picked up by any other media source? Notice how the stories fade after a couple of days?

Wake up everyone and stop posting these non-sourced articles.

If this happens and it causes the finish of the Moslem Brotherhood that would be a great gift Israel could give to Egypt. Maybe having Israeli tanks rolling though Cairo will change the Egyptians way of thinking. Its fun to make threats and have emotional demonstrations but words have consequences and there is sometimes a grim price to pay for your fun. Maybe the next group to rule will be the Copts.
