Sarah Palin endorses third-party run if Akin won’t drop out
The Washington Examiner ^ | August 22, 2012 | Joel Gehrke

Sarah Palin endorsed a third-party candidacy against Rep. Todd Akin, R-Mo., if he persists in his refusal to drop out of the general election campaign after making startling comments about rape and abortion.

“We’ve got to take back the Senate and Missouri is a must-win state,” Palin told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren. “The way we do that is to have someone like Sarah Steelman be able to run — even if it’s as a third-party candidate — to be able to run and help us take this back.” Palin endorsed Steelman in the primary, which was regarded as showdown for the privilege of challenging the deeply-unpopular Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.

The former Alaska governor reiterated her support for a third-party run when considering how conservatives should respond if Akin does not drop out before the state prints the ballots for the general election.

“Maybe it is a third-party run of Sarah Steelman — that I could get behind,” she said. “Granted, ‘the status quo has got to go’ [Steelman's campaign motto] would be an odd name for a third party, but we’ll coin it, we’ll adopt it, we’ll run with it if that’s what it takes in order to get a common sense, constitutional, happens-to-be-pro-life woman in Missouri to clean up this mess that has been created and at the same time take back the Senate.”

Nothing wrong about extremism in support of life.

Akin’s problem is he told women rape victims (and thei families) who happened i get pregnant that they did not
suffer a “legitimate rape”. They pulled a Bobby Knight “lay back and enjoy it” number.

I had a dream a few nights back where I told Sarah to "shut up." Now I know why.

Sarah, "SHUT UP!"

As a Missourian, I am so disgusted over the viciousness that has been coming out of so-called Conservatives. I used to be a big Palin supporter, but with this, she can just go straight to hell.

So, you are supporting a third party run . . .which could possibly split the vote and a McCaskill win. Niiiiiiiiiiiice.

I dont buy this. He misspoke. I am tired of losing good people to misspeaking.

Barney Frank was a member of the house who had homosexual prostitutes using goverment and private space and he just ignored the calls for removal.

This man OTOH made a statement that if not widely accepted in the fundementalist community is stated on occasion. This is no big deal and it is time that we stop getting Alanskied by every misspoken workd. Your reaction is right out of the textbook of Rules for Radicals.

You are being played.

I fear that an INCREASED number children will be murdered BECAUSE of Akin and those who supported him than would have been killed if he had just dropped out.. Yes, in God’s eyes, those people are just as responsable as the doctor with the vacuum hose. My hands and conscience are clean. I feel sorry for those unborn who will now have to pay for this damage done by Akin and his blind supporters.

What kind of a nutcase are you!!!

Palin hadn’t even done her homework on Missouri election law. She made a fool of herself, when she could have presented a plan.

I am told it past deadline for a third party run, and that a write-in is the only possibility.

If Akin withdraws, it will take a miracle for a Dem-led judicial panel to allow a switch.

“Maybe it is a third-party run of Sarah Steelman — that I could get behind,” she said.

There is a sore loser law in Missouri that prevents defeated primary candidates from running as independents or third party. Palin should have known that.

"I was one who felt sorry for the man. I still thought he needed to go after the mistake but I gave him the benefit of doubt. After hearing him on Hannity I could hear that he's in it for himself NO MATTER what the end result will be."

Yes, and he came across as having a messianic complex that he is the anointed one. He is a tool for the Democrats at this stage and will be used to hurt the Republicans in far more races than his own.

When hildebeast wins a senate seat because a non threatening Christian man walked over to her and violated her space... perhaps a woman is needed to beat another woman... especially when the man that was supposed to win offended many women across the political divide.

Seems like the whole world and God (God certainly would not support the harming of the pro-life movement as it was harmed by Akin) are wrong and YOU are right.

What kind of a nutcase are you!

I'm a REAL pro-lifer and Christian Conservative whose red flag goes up when one who claims to be part of my group is getting the financial support from the opposition.

So I assume her “feminism” was at hand with Rubio, West, Cruz and I could go on and on. Put your infantile PDS aside and use some logical thought instead of an emotional outburst for a moment.

Third party is not the way to go, and since she supported Steelman for the election why should she suddenly drop her support as this crisis goes forward. She was visibly aggravated with the self absorbed Akin and off the cuff was looking for and throwing out possible solutions.

I’m sure her communications with Steelman will enlighten her with Missouri laws that prevent her candidate from participating in either a third party effort or a write-in campaign.

Instead of focusing on her “feminism” maybe use logic to search for a solution. I am embarking on a self educational effort of who the players are and what the laws are in that state. My possible solution is if the Governor is a Pubbie, that the Pubbies organize a write-in campaign for somebody like Bond. Then as the idiot Akins is relegated to his rightful position of just another idiot citizen looking in, the horrible record and public support for McCaskill will allow Bond to be elected.

Then, if the laws of Missouri allow for appointments by the Governor to fill a vacant seat, Bond resigns for something like health reasons and the Governor can appoint the runner up in the primary to fix the obvious problem brought on by this arrogant fools ego and the incredibly stupid OPEN PRIMARY system the Pubbies continue to hold loaded to their heads in that and several other states.

He used the liberal tactic to divert the question.

Of course. Akin is a stooge of the Left. They bought his victory. They spent more than he did to help him win. Had they not done so, he would have been a distant third behind either Brunner or Steelman.

This “unity at all costs” mentality is getting very tiresome.

Akin is a walking political disaster. The longer he remains in, the more opportunities the left will have to make his poor choice of words and selfish actions reflect poorly on the rest of the GOP by association.

You want damage control? Confine Akin’s problems to Akin and introduce a third-party challenger. Give that challenger support from Romney and the GOP to make sure that people know who the bigwigs support.

If Murkowski can win Alaska, we can win Missouri.
