snip....The truth is the "legitimate rape" comment made by U.S. Rep. Todd Akin -- as in pregnancy from "legitimate rape" is rare -- is not a GOP anomaly, but rather another disturbing glimpse into the viewpoint too many social conservatives have about women's health and reproductive rights....snip

This is serious. This moron’s Neaderthal beliefs, expressed the way they were, “confirms” (falsely) to the media and those suspicious of conservatives that we all really wish to take all women’s rights away.

He should just go away. Give us the woman who Sarah endorsed in MO Senate race and she will patch up the problem. Otherwise, he will infect the whole ticket.

Many thanks to FReeper P.O.E. for finding this gem of a video that validates CNN's claim and offers a disturbing glimpse into the viewpoint too many social conservatives have about women's health and reproductive rights from this rabid, right-wing, he-man, wimmen-hater....

This article is a continuation of the framework laid when Stephanopolus started grilling people about birth control in the primary debates.

They’ve written the script and all the actors know their lines, so when an Akin comes along they all know what to say to move the plot along.

I guess no number of apologies, clarifications, bowing & scraping will stop the War of Women juggernaut.

After all the stupid sh*t I've heard democrats say, this is surreal.

If anyone thinks that Akin's withdrawal will solve the problem, they don't understand the Dems. This is not about Akin, it is about any Rep who believes that abortion is wrong even in the case of rape and incest. Paul Ryan sponsored a bill with Akin on limiting federal assistance to abortion to cases of forcible rape only.

Akin should go away? Why?

“I guess no number of apologies, clarifications, bowing & scraping will stop the War of Women juggernaut.”

When you have the media on your side, you can plan large media pushes that have continuity. You can have large-scale propaganda projects.

Republicans don’t seem to coordinate well on large themes, and lack the resources to push them at all levels.

Which “Neaderthal beliefs” are you referring to?

The fact that less than 5% of rapes lead to pregnancy (which studies show) or that killing a baby that resulted from rape is wrong?

If killing a baby conceived by rape is ok in your non- “Neaderthal belief” system....could you tell me where it does become wrong? The Duggard (spelling?) girl has two kids (one I believe is 3 years old) from her horrible experience. Should she be allowed to kill them if they remind her of her experience? What is the “ok to kill” cut off date? 1 month after a rape? 3, 6, partial birth, first 2 years?

I had to go listen to what he said. It was inartful, but I’m really more concerned at how Republicans always handle this stuff. No wonder we always lose this debate. We are always terrified of the left.
We either think that abortion is killing a human or we don’t. I doubt rapes cause many pregnancies, and in those cases where they do wouldn’t it be better to be praising the women who decide to allow that little person, who was in no way at fault, to live instead of punishing it with death?
So, who really is a Neandertal? Someone who made a point poorly or those who believe in killing babies for the sins of their fathers?

I've maintained for some time that women will decide this and future national elections. Whether it's discussion about Bill Clinton's underwear, Obama’s uniqueness, the cuteness of a candidate's family or something related to abortion (and eventually gay rights), women will be the determining factor. Democrats thrive when they pit groups against each other. If women feel the Nancy Pelosi mindset should be expanded, we will have Obama for four more years and then even more liberal candidates and eventually an LGBTQ ABCD... President.

Whether it's discussion about Bill Clinton's underwear

Or what the discussion wasn't about, like Bill Clinton's rape charge.

Women may determine election outcomes but the leftwing media still sets the table.

I can give you a laundry list of politicians who have made stupid statements, including the current occupant of the WH. This has less to do with substance than it does with gaining a political advantage. In the politically correct world we now live in, any statement that even hints at disparaging women, gays, race, and ethnicity invokes a torrent of phony outrage and overblown rhetoric.

And Reps are held to a much different standard than those in the Evil Party. Can anyone imagine a Rep Senator who was a former Klan wizard? Or be allowed to stay in office after talking about “white ni***ers” on national television? Or a senator who left a girl to die in a car he was driving during a drunken foray in the MA night. He waited a long time to report the incident, more concerned about preserving his political career than saving the girl’s life. Or in the case of a race baiter like Al Sharpton whose escapades included inciting mob violence that killed two people. Or a sitting President who was a sexual predator that involved sex with interns in the WH, raping a woman, and exposing himself to an employee in AK while governor. None of the above have been banished from the public scene. Quite the contrary, they have been lionized and elevated in both position and power.

Akins committed no crime or indiscretion. He made an inartful statement and apologized immediately for it. The fact that he now faces political exile says more about the society we live in than Akin the man who by all appearances has led an exemplary life. This is just a lynching in the court of (manufactured) public opinion.

The War on Women crap started long before Akin in this campaign. Remember Sandra Fluke and the Rush Limbaugh kerfluffle?

It took me 30 seconds to click up what the pregnancy rate from forcible rape is, Akin could have too. And as for women having biology that reduces the chance of pregnancy from rape!

Like ABC, he should have checked his sources before opening his trap.

I thought I was the only one left on FR that felt this way. I don’t want him to quit. This whole drama queen explosion of wanting him out is making me crazy. He is a good man and should stay in the race.

Agreed. The dominant purveyors include brainwashing the young though biased education and then continues with pop culture and the media. The ultimate belief the left possesses: It is cool to be liberal, it is close-minded to be Conservative. The hope is that we grow out of that thought process, many do, some don’t.

Paul Ryan sponsored a bill with Akin on limiting federal assistance to abortion to cases of forcible rape only.

So...how do they define non-forcible rape?
