I wont hate Todd Akin officially unless he refuses to withdraw from the Missouri Senate race. If he does withdraw, honorably sacrificing his personal interests to save the country, it will be time for all good men to rally around Akin as an American patriot.
Akin was one of nine GOP candidates in the primary to challenge Missouris left-wing, tax-cheat sitting Democratic senator, Claire McCaskill. McCaskill is Chuck Schumer in a dress. Totally out of step with the good voters of Missouri, her seat should be an easy win for Republicans this year.
Curiously, Democrats ferociously supported Akin in the GOP primary. McCaskills supporters spent $2 million to make Akin her opponent and also crossed over to vote for Akin in the Republican primary and thats been admitted in The New York Times.
Now we know why. The rape comment was a totally unforced error on a day that should have been a smashing triumph for the Romney-Ryan ticket.
Akin wasnt asked some out of the blue question no Republican candidate has ever been asked: He was asked the most jejune, obvious question every Republican is asked in any race for any office. How can a Republican not have an answer for: What about abortion in the case of rape and incest?

Instead, Akin rambled about legitimate rape violating an ironclad rule of politicians that the word legitimate should never appear within 15 yards of the word rape. And he talked about the medical possibility of becoming pregnant from a single traumatizing rape.
Hes not a talk radio host. Hes not sitting around shooting the breeze in a college dorm room. This is a politician who should have a clear, nonthreatening answer at the ready for the most cliched question in the MSMs playbook.

If the Christian conservative movement gets behind Akin, he may be able to win. If he does, he will win without the help of mainstream Republicans and will be able to do whatever he wants in the Senate.
Long-term that may end up being a good thing — but only if he wins.
I have major concerns.
I believe Harry Reid or surrogates did the same with Sharon Angle in Reid’s last senatorial campaign.
It almost backfired on him.
Because the GOP-E wants him out, I want Akins in. Apparently, he’s a Godly man who didn’t explain his beliefs well in this instance.
“The McCaskill campaign ran ads designed to help Akin win the nomination. Does this change your mind?”
Not in the least. McRascal thinks that being the “most conservative” candidate from the GOP is a liability. I, and MANY others think it is a plus. McRascal just helped finance her own defeat.
Fellow...the issue is settled. The deadline is past. Akin won the primary and HIS IS GOING TO STAY IN. Now you folks can keep bad mouthing him and help create a “self-fulfilling” prophecy that McRascal can beat him. OR you can do the SMART thing and SHUT UP about it. Rural Missouri folks are pretty socially conservative....McRaskel is soundly disliked and wanted out of office. Between those two things she won’t win. Akin will. However, IF the GOP establishment and idiots from OUTSIDE this state don’t shut up....they are going to so tick off the good people of Missouri to where it could hurt the GOP in general while still helping Akin. He is clearly NOT part of the GOP establishment...and that goes down well with the people in rural areas. With every invective hurled towards Akin, you fools just drive more folks away from the GOP to being independents that you cannot rely upon for votes.
You had better count the cost of hissing fit interference in Missouri affairs.
You articulate well the Catholic view of life, thank you.
This is a pro-life forum. If you wish to push abortion, do it elsewhere. It’s not welcome here.
“This is a pro-life forum. If you wish to push abortion, do it elsewhere. Its not welcome here.”
It’s been nice knowing everyone, and I have enjoyed the multitude of discussions. But this is a Taliban-held province now, so I’ll leave you to it.
Hmm... wow... this “disasterous” burning issue seems to be already subsiding... what did I tell you?
So, Jim reminds you that this is and always has been a pro-life forum and asks you to refrain from pushing abortion and you respond by calling this a "Taliban-held province."
You abortionists really are a deranged group of bastards if you think protecting innocent life is similar to the Taliban.
Good riddance troll!
Unbelievable. How can someone have been here since 2002 and not realize that this has been a pro-life site all that time? Is that possible?
As a conservative, I find the idea of forcing a woman to bear rapespawn to be morally odious. And furthermore, I remain an Ann Coulter fan.
But don’t worry: I feel the same way about Mitt Romney as you do. I’m supporting Gary Johnson this cycle.
So, some children are "spawn" and should be killed and others deserve to live? That sounds like what eugenicists (who invariably have similar mindsets as the Taliban) have ALWAYS said about those they want to kill.
You are a pro-abortion troll and you deserve a zot.
You already did your opus.
Now get lost.
Begone troll!
That's hardly a surprise.
Gary Johnson is a PRO-ABORTION, PRO-SAME-SEX "MARRIAGE" leftist.
I find murdering an innocent baby morally odious.
IBTZ
Ann, sit down and shut up ... and eat a cheese burger with a Strawberry shake for gosh sakes, you look like an escapee from Dachau!
You've been here on Free Republic longer than me. I respect that. While I'm strongly pro-life I understand why a libertarian won't necessarily agree with me.
But how on earth could you have been here for a decade and call children “rapespawn?”
That's pretty callous. Even if you don't believe they are babies until they're born, it seems to me you'd want to use less offensive language on a pro-life forum. When I'm on liberal sites I try to be respectful and avoid needless offense.
No tears here.
