Missouri Republican Senate candidate Todd Akin's advisers are making preparations to withdraw from the race Tuesday, GOP operative Richard Grenell and RedState.com editor Erick Erickson report. Grenell cited "GOP sources" in his tweet announcing the withdrawal, which has yet to be confirmed by Akin. Akin has been under fire since saying women have biological defenses to fend off pregnancy after a "legitimate rape."

Hey....if Trent Lott had to give up his leadership role over a stupid comment that was much less egregious, there is no other way out.
We MUST take that seat.
It’s good to know the GOP still has biological defenses to prevent illegitimate stupidity.
Agreed. It’s just so dumb there is no conceivable way to try and defend him.
Who takes the slot? I hope it’s the Tea Party gal that just missed the nom. Sarah Steelman?
Why do some conservative candidates get so sidetracked instead of focusing on the issues that most conservatives care about?
Aikin now on Hannity. He’s not helping himself.
The American People need to build up defenses against an illegitimate president.
He was asked the question on some stupid show. He should have been prepared, knowing the media is shilling for the Dems.
This moron is on Hannity and saying he’s not dropping out.
He’s stumbling and bumbling again.
Listening as well. Didn’t do very well on Hannity’s easy questions. Almost as if he didn’t prepare to explain “legitimate” or “shutting it down”.
If Akin withdraws, I think the slot would go to either John Brunner, Kit Bond, or Jim Talent. Brunner was the runner-up to Akin in the primary; Steelman finished third. Bond is the recently retired four-time, undefeated former senator. Talent is a former senator, too, but he lost his last race. Steelman's one advantage is that she is a woman, so that would neutralize, somewhat, "the gender issue." This election needs to return to being about ObamaClaire McCaskill and her ties to Obama, Obamacare, the dismal economy, jobs, etc., not about rape.
Im beginning to this this guy is a Democrat mole..the second that McCaskill threw support in his race should have been a HUGE warning sign
The pity of it all is that the “stupid show” has 15 listeners and is hosted by Charles Jaco who is somewhere to the left of Stalin with the likeability of Genghis Khan and the credibility of Harry Reid.
Why on earth Akin would 1) appear on that show and 2) not be ready for such an obvious trap is simply beyond me.
If Rep. Akin withdraws (full disclosure: I voted for him and continue to support him - there's much more to the abortion/rape discussion than media soundbites allow - different discussion), who replaces him?
If anyone besides John Brunner (came in second in the August 7 primary) is chosen to replace Akin, many Missourians will be very justifiably angry. After all, isn't this exactly the "political insider," "party establishment" c--p that we have been fighting against for a long time??
Nothing like a "circular firing squad" to destroy all Republicans. No wonder the Dems win.... They just sit back and wait for us to destroy each other, then pounce, and ride in to "save the day."
Just sayin'
This jerk is now radioactive. He needs to be forced out, he won’t quit.
He is not leaving. He called Hannity to say that he is staying in. And people will forgive him.
We are screwed!
Particularly because it was an interview with Charles Jaco, who is about the biggest piece of left-wing slime you can imagine.
Reminds me of the time that Agriculture Secretary (Watts?) had to go because he was heard to say: “All black people want is loose shoes, a tight pxxxy, and a warm place to shxx.” My husband laughed, said, “Hey, I can go with that program.” Didn’t save the Secretary though.
a month from now no one will remember his name.
Teachable moment for Candidates: You’re never more than one 24 hour news cycle from becoming history if you shoot off your mouth.
Teachable moment for Elected Officials: You shoot off your mouth about any damn thing you want with impunity. And if you’re Joe Biden, it doesn’t even have to make sense.
