WEST HARTFORD The newest Colt .45-caliber pistol is touted for its durability and design.
It is tested to make sure it can be dropped in water, covered in mud, immersed in sand or ice or left in a dust storm and still be able to get off a round when you pull the trigger.
"Virtually, it's indestructible," said Casimir Pawlowski, who works in international sales and technical sevices for Colt Defense LLC. "You can drive over these things with a Humvee and they're still gonna work. It's like a brick that shoots bullets."

I just hope it will eventually mean a glut of .45 ammo on the market. I was starting to worry that the GI stores had dried up.
Navy and U.S. Marines who carried an earlier version of the Colt as their official sidearm the Model 1911 .45-caliber automatic.
Never go into a handgun fight with a bullet that does not start with a 4
“Uh, should this be semi auto?”
Of course, checking facts has not been important in Journalism.
There have already been reported failures of the frame.
The one that I saw had the rail assembly split from the dust cover. Look where the rail joins the frame and it’s a sharp/squared angle that directs the stresses.
Such things are common when new weapons are developed, so they should be able to work it out.
Assuming that you weren't joking: the terms semi-automatic and automatic mean the same thing when applied to both pistols and shotguns.
Back then, “automatic” referred to what we today call semi-auto.
No, I was not joking. That's news to me. I don't know if there is some sort of definitive source for firearm nomenclature, but I'd need to see something to back that up.
As compared to the fully automatic SUV...the most deadly weapon in the world.

If yall already know this stuff (BFO), please save your time and skip to the next post/poster....
Actually, automatic in this case refers to loading (automatic loading or auto-loader). The cartridge designation “ACP” Automatic Colt Pistol, supports this. Anything that worked otherwise (fully automatic) was referred to as fully-automatic, or machine-gun (main battle rifle cartridge), or sub-machine-gun (pistol cartridge).
Either way, it is an historic time, the Marine Corps and John Moses Browning (hallowed be his name to practitioners...)together again!!!
Oooohrah!!
THANK GOD!
I first qualified with the .45 and then they switched to the POS 9MM!
It is only proper to give Marines a REAL weapon which is designed to KILL the person you are shooting at, not merely wound him!!
No, it’s the Colt Automatic Pistol. Always has been, always will be.

Shotguns come in two flavors: pump action and automatic. The term automatic shotgun does not mean it is fully automatic like a machine gun. Confused yet?
“Automatic” means the automatic chambering of the next round after firing the current round. Unfortunately, modern terminology seems to think “automatic” mean full auto firing.
Ah yes, another "if you don't carry a .40 or a .45, then you're not a real man," lecture. From a pure manstopper perspective, I'll match my .357 with anything that starts with a 4.
The term semi-auto and auto mean the same thing in this case. I qualified expert on the 45 in the Navy. I own 2 M1911's.
Question...
This pistol appears to have a hammer.
Wouldn’t that significantly slow the rate of fire?
How much does a new one cost? Used?
