No wonder Missouri Senator Claire McCaskill wanted to run against Rep. Todd Akin, even investing in his GOP primary victory two weeks ago by spending $2 million on ads that described him as too conservative. Missouri Republicans saw that as a plus, just as shed hoped. But after his Sunday comment that legitimate rape rarely leads to pregnancy, even some in the GOP are calling for him to step aside.
The Republican lawmaker was trying to explain why he opposes abortion in cases of rape, but instead marched straight into the tar pits, where he will hopefully serve as a warning to future candidates that the reproductive info gleaned at summer camp may not hold up that well in TV interviews half a century hence.
Rape as a result of sex by force is really rare, Akin told KTVI-TV. If its a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.

If that is all he had said that would be fine. But that’s not all he said.
If he stays in we just gave away a Senate seat that we were probably most likely to pick up and possibly control of the Senate altogether (kiss any chance of repealing Obamacare goodbye). Moreover, the Dems will likely nationalize this race if he stays in “The GOP says there is ‘legitimate rape’”, etc.
I bet his gone by tomorrow evening.
Is this the guy that ran against the candidate endorsed by Sarah? I see.
To quote Groucho Marx, I'd horsewhip him if I had a horse.
You mean the RINO Sarah Steelman who was supported by the trial lawyers opposed to tort reform in Missouri and by the public employees unions she has served so well.
Missouri voters saw through her phoniness and Sarah Palin's ill-advised endorsement of her.
What can we do? We have to send a message to get him gone!!!!! And looks like we just have two days. This ass sure won’t do it unless prodded...what politician ever quits for the good of the party?
Could Sarah run as an independent, if Aikin won’t drop out? What’s the worst that could happen? We’ll end up with McCatfishkill anyway, so why not try what that be-yatch in Alaska did when she ran and won on a write in campaign.
How would she run in MO senate when she is not even a citizen?
WTF is legitimate rape?
This guy is an idiot. A f*cking drooling moron. He needs to go right now.
We do not have time for BS like this.
He couldn’t really mean what it sounds like he said so maybe people should hang back and see if he can explain what he really meant. He’s adamantly pro-life.
Patience, please. Let’s see what happens.
“The Republican lawmaker was trying to explain why he opposes abortion in cases of rape. . . “
Here’s the point of his statement. I read the whole article. Everything else is him misspeaking and the mob, including this group, ganging up in him for whatever.
Abortion in the case of rape is a double trauma on the woman; that is a situation cited in, the book, Victims and Victors: Speaking Out About Their Pregnancies, Abortions, and Children Resulting from Sexual Assault by David Reardon of the Elliot Institute.
Let anyone talk about not allowing abortion in the case of rape and just riots break out.
Abortion in the case of rape is killing a child just as is any other abortion but don’t say it out loud and don’t say it if you are a republican as your own will just gang up.
Forget about it if you misspeak on top of it. YOur own will throw you away like you never did anything good in your life.
Ugh
This Akin character may be a nice guy but he is a moron to make that statement about pregnancy rarely caused by forcible rapes.
He needs to go and soon. Tomorrow morning is not soon enough. He will be a disaster in November. McCaskill is vulnerable and we need a more astute candidate.
Well the guy they picked sure is working out!!!
Two days isn’t enough time. He will spend time in denial, then will want to conduct polls.
No offense, but I can't make heads or tails out of what you're trying to say here.
Are you saying he'll be gone or this "media firestorm" will be gone tomorrow?
The GOP is already setting the groundwork to give Obama and the Democrats a huge upset this November.
He is gone
I complained the night he was elected and retracted to give him a shot. But wow....he is one heck of an EPIC failure..
