“Legitimate rape” became a Twitter trending topic in the U.S. this afternoon after liberal blog Talking Points Memo posted a video of Rep. Todd Akin claiming that victims of “legitimate rape” are unlikely to become pregnant.

Yeah, let’s take that 38 second sound bite and allow the Obamugabe ass kissing media to define his entire 11 year career.
That’d be a damn genius move...especially when we’ve got a six year record of that Obamugabe clown McCaskill record to point toward.
Oh, wait, I mean this: it’d be STUPID to focus on and allow the media to LET us focus on such nonsense when the economy is tanking....
The problem is the target audience of any spin isn’t FR posters, it’s, say, female independents in Missouri.

Good Lord, when did it become an automatic to assume the worst of a guy who has served honorably for 11 years in Congress, with a near perfect conservative voting record? (97.24 rating from the ACU).
I’m sorry- I’ve seen people pulling the “out of context” and 10 paragraph nuancing of what this cement-head said.

If we can’t let the left with Obama and Biden’s moronic gaffes get away with it we shouldn’t either.
AT BEST, this shows that the guy’s public speaking chops and judgement are badly lacking and he likely will say more moronic things in the future.
This goof’s candidacy should be terminated and terminated with extreme prejudice by no later than tomorrow morning.

Actually the media is fairly irrelevant at this point; it’s his own words, and it’s spreading like wildfire on social media, which is beyond anyone’s control.
Was this the character that was the opponent of Sarah Palin’s pick? Remember, she only wanted Steelman because it was a “chick thing” or something?
There are some things you just don't want to say and be in politics.
He gave, two parts to his answer, the first part was enough - doctors say that rapes don’t usually result in pregnancy. He could have, should have left it there; it was enough; it was specific enough.
He tried to add to the answer and meant to do so by referring to the incidence of a “legitimate charge of rape”, as opposed to what is left to the listener to interpret, but which he likely meant those incidence where “the charge” of rape was “not legitimate” - it was a false charge. He meant be right, but the distinction is unnecessary, and in trying to say what he meant, he used the term “legitimate rape” - not “a legitimate charge of rape”. Which begged the question, are some rapes “legitimate”? He didn’t need the second part of his answer and when he attempted it he fumbled it and that fumble looked stupid. He didn’t know when to stop talking.
Good point...I think Akin really ought to get some pro-life women out defending him on this point....it’d be good strategery. :)
But I believe all the screaming that he is an idiot is overdone. We (and by we I mean others in the conservative movement) are so damn eager to throw over a guy who says something that seems to be a bit controversial. He was speaking off the cuff.
Damn, if only the liberals were so quick to fire Obamugabe every time he had a faux pas. He’d have been fired as soon as he said “The Cambridge Police acted stupidly.” And he MEANT THAT...it wasn’t merely a quick slip, like this was in a tv interview....and he had a long time to “fix it”, as he was in control of the press conference.
I’m sick and tired of us assuming the worst of our nominees. No wonder the effing communists are so united and we’re so divided.

Anyone who knows biology knows that pregnancy is possible with any sexual intercourse. The possibility of pregnancy might be lower with rape but it certainly is still there.
Switch him NOW. The Senate hangs in the balance. It wasn’t out if context. It wasn’t a misquote. It was sheer idiocy that he won’t recover from. He should do the right thing for the good of the Republic which cannot afford a single unexpected loss
I agree with you. It appears some Freepers are as bad as the liberal media, always ready to throw our guys under the bus the first chance they get.
I hope they all enjoy being in the minority the rest of their lives. I will blame them for the downfall of our country.

Mr. Rogers, of course women have lied about rape, but referring to how a woman dresses on a date in the same sentence about false claims of rape after a sexual encounter has a whiff of the “she was asking for it” justification. (imo)
There might have been a day when a Republican politician could get away with saying that. There might again come such a day, although that’s far less probable. Let’s all agree that it is not this day. This guy’s going to get shelled.
