The Obama campaign is asking supporters to sign a letter to Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney release “just five years of tax returns.”
In an email to the BarackObama.com list, campaign manager Jim Messina noted the letter he sent Friday morning to Romney’s campaign manager, vowing to get off Romney’s back about the returns if the documents were produced. The Romney camp brushed off Messina’s move.
Now Messina has converted his letter into an online petition of sorts.
“According to the one full year of returns he has released, Romney paid 13.9% in taxes on his income. Thursday, he said he went back and looked, and has never paid less than 13% over the last ten years. Now we’re asking him to put his money where his mouth is,” Messina wrote.
“It is absolutely relevant for us to ask how much a presidential candidate paid in taxes, if he sheltered his money or tried to get out of paying taxes at all, why he started — and continues to own — a corporation offshore in Bermuda, why he keeps his finances offshore in the Cayman Islands, and why he opened a Swiss bank account,” he continued.
In addition to being invited to sign the petition, supporters were reminded in a P.S. to open their wallets: “Election Day is closer than you think — make a donation to fund this campaign in the time we have left.”
Four years in office and the Obama campaign has nothing positive to run on.People are tired, out of work and the outlook is bleak.
This type of campaign worked for him in 2008, but slick words and empty promises won't work this time.
Let them keep chasing after tax records, while Romney and Ryan are out there offering leadership that has been so lacking.
Maybe we could get our own little petition going, on November sixth, let’s see if we can get enough people to sign a petition to send Obamay and his scrawny ass packin’...
well obama is in name although maybe not legally, head of the fed government. surely he could just order the irs to produce romneys tax returns. even though it wouldn’t be lagal, he could likely get them.
What I’m hearing on the news is how Obama has gutted Medicare to the tune of $700 Billion.
Obama is running a 3rd grade campaign, matching the political education of his supporters. They gonna put y’all back in chains! You didn’t build that. It’s god to spread the wealth around. Sign my petition and here’s your pack of Kools.
Them are some tig jiggly bitties.
The worst thing that could possibly be in them, I am NOT saying this is TRUE, is that Romeny took advantage of a “swiss bank amnesty” in 2008.
But here is the history of Axelrod

What gripes Obama, Axelroduphisarse and the Left is that Romney makes SO DAMNED MUCH MONEY !!! They can’t stand it.
Even if Obama traded college records for Romney tax returns, they would be obviously fake. Romney should ignore this.
Why not make a deal — Romney’s tax returns for Obama’s valid BC?
So tell us Barry “What is your plan to light this American economy on fire and put Americans back to work?”
Putz....
A pathetic and desperate move by the Obozo campaign. Typical.
I agree, it’s a juvenile effort. It will appeal only to his rabid base. I doubt that is more than 20-25% of the electorate.
It’s as if he could care less about winning.
Yeah, and we wanted Clinton’s medical records but never got them. They would have shown STDs and treatment for a cocaine overdose at the University of Arkansas Medical Center.
These people have totally lost it. They now believe their own BS, so much so, that they are willing to prolong a totally contrived and bogus issue with the American people until they have been landslided on election day. I say, keep knocking yourself out. Keep beating this carcass of a dead horse until election day.
It’s sad and pathetic that Team Obama thinks this is a winning issue
There’s a petition out there for Obama to release his records. Forgot the website. Maybe WND?
