NBC insiders tell me The Tonight Show went through downsizing today and that 20 staffers lost their jobs. Others tell me the number is more like 25, and producers were forced to take pay cuts or lose their jobs.
The downsizing also comes just 5 days after First Lady Michelle Obama appeared as a guest for the third time on The Tonight Show: high unemployment, job creation, and taxing the rich vs the poor all are issues in the 2012 president campaign.
Leno has said publicly that hes able to bank his entire Tonight Show salary and live on the hefty fees he makes from his hectic personal appearance schedule.
Lenos new salary is reportedly $27M-$30 million a year. He reportedly brings home another $15M-$20M a year from his other gigs

At one point, Carson's The Tonight Show accounted for 17% of NBC's profits.
Cheers!
That was nice of him to do. I bet he does feel bad people were layed off and that is why he took a paycut cut to try to minimize them. I think if he just quit having the Mooch on that would help.
Really? Layoffs and pay cuts for Jay? Well, well, well, the lib left and all those who LOVE “making fun” of Pubbies... are now seeing the results of their guy obama. Nice to be all smart aleck when you are in the chips but...now the RICH are feeling the pain... HOW DOES IT FEEL???
yes, he DID work for it and he earned it. However, now he is feeling the pinch as are other stars only they won’t admit it but these policies of obama will affect EVERYONE. It’ll just take the SLOWBEES a little time to realize their bank accts and savings accounts and investments are going down.
They’ll have to HANDLE it like the rest of us. OR they might even vote RR without telling anyone.
BTTT
Yeah, Comcast knows their huge Olympics audience has already deserted them, and they’re girding for another ratings-challenged season in prime time. Additionally, Comcast is much more focused on containing costs at NBC than GE ever was.
This won’t be the last round of cuts at the “Tonight Show.”

The only people still watching late night talk shows are people too stupid or too old to learn how to use the internet effectively.
Must See TV? Not so much.
At least not in time for the next ratings period.
I was never a Leno fan, but would watch Letterman occasionally. I gave up on Letterman when on the first anni of the 911 attack, he had Bill Clinton as the only guest.
I assume my e-mail to them about my dissatisfaction with CBS/Letterman for inflicting on their viewers, the US individual most responsible for the attacks, was bit-bucketed.
Years ago I watched Letterman - now can’t stand him. I’ll watch Leno once every two weeks or so. Seems that he pokes at the President quite a bit. The one last night had something like:
“The President is going non-stop in his re-election campaign in order to secure another four years in office. When asked why he felt so strongly about getting re-elected he replied “What? Good luck in me trying to find another job in THIS economy”
I haven’t watched Leno since 2004. I think all of these late-night guys have lost their mo-jo.
I would like to know the sponsors of the horrible New Normal show. I intend to let them know that I won’t buy any of their products, and to spread the word to friends and family.
Craptacular is the perfect description for most TV shows these days. If it were not for sports, I would never watch TV.
What about those ass clowns at msNBC? Did they loose some staffers or take some pay cuts? Oh wait those jerks are interns working for the cause of keeping the Dalibama on his throne. They work for free, right? It’s a good thing Mama GE doesn’t pay any taxes or they would have had to dump them all years ago. No loss.
Excellent and he really spanks Grodin. Sorry, Leno didn’t earn it. He lucked into it. He’s barely funny and never really was. Then cable, satellite and the Internet came and people had an alternative.
To think that despite work the next morning people wouldn’t miss Carson.
Ellen Barkin - oh, geeze, I bet that’s a hit... /s
Ellen Barkin:
“Well, were experiencing divisiveness in terms of our politics. Like, the Religious Right has identified themselves because of the propagandizing and illiteracy of...I dont know...News Corp, maybe?” Barkin said. “They have identified themselves with this extremist, right-wing insurgency of a partythis Tea Party. They call it a grassroots movement. Grassroots? Youre attached to the wrong ship.”
Actress Ellen Barkin likes to pose as a thoughtful, sophisticated political pundit on Twitter, but her hate-filled rants keep getting in the way.
Barkin’s latest trash talk involves late Internet guru Andrew Breitbart. Here’s what Barkin had to say about the devoted husband and father of four:
Every1knows Breitbart died from Peruvian Flu *snert* “ Wow really did not know that. Explains the crazy.
“I love everybody,..except u right wing f**kin morons,” she tweeted.
