Winston-Salem, NC-- Police in Winston-Salem are investigating a shooting on University Parkway that left one man dead.
Police said it is early in the investigation, but an armed man walked into Kevin Powell Motorsports on University Parkway.
An eyewitness told News 2 that employees from the business ran into his place of work and told him that a man armed with a shotgun started shooting inside the business. They told the eyewitness the officer shot and killed the gunman.
According Assistant Chief Barry Rountree, an on duty, working detective went into Kevin Powell Motorsports and was told by a customer that someone may have been trying to rob the business.
Assistant Chief Rountree said that the officer happened to go into the store around 1:45 pm, but not for police related business. The officer saw a man with gloves carrying a long weapon, and there was a "challenge."
Shots were fired, but WSPD has not specified how many shots were fired or if the shooter was targeting the officer. The officer was not injured.
The officer was wearing civilian clothes and used his personal weapon.
SBI is on the scene.
Dang!
Right person in the wrong place at the right time.
Well, looks like “Craaaaazzzyyy Kevin Powell” finally met someone he couldn’t get approved.
In before the obligatory “cop shooting dog” comment
It is hard for me to understand the sudden increase in these types of shootings so close to the election. Maybe there is something to what the Aurora singer is talking about?
