August 15, 2012 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Kenneth L. Miller, a Mennonite pastor who helped a little girl and her mother to flee the United States to escape the girl’s court-imposed lesbian “mother,” has been convicted on the charge of “aiding and abetting a parental kidnapping.”
A Vermont jury returned the verdict yesterday after only four hours of deliberation. He is free while awaiting sentencing, which could bring a punishment of up to three years in prison. Miller’s attorney, Joshua M. Autry, says he is considering an appeal.
Following the verdict, lesbian Janet Jenkins filed a civil suit against Miller for his role in the escape, which Miller says includes charges of racketeering and includes “ten other people and organizations.”
Ex-lesbian Lisa Miller, who is not related to Kenneth Miller, fled the country with Kenneth Miller’s help after her efforts failed to keep Jenkins from having access to her child, Isabella. Jenkins never adopted Isabella and has no biological relationship with the girl, who exhibited signs of emotional trauma following forced visits with Jenkins, according to experts who observed her.
Isabella was conceived by artificial insemination while Jenkins and Miller were in a Vermont “civil union,” which was dissolved in 2003. Following the end of her relationship, Miller returned to the Baptist religion of her youth and consequently disavowed homosexual behavior. She has raised Isabella with the same values.
In a letter to a supporter attributed to Kenneth Miller and posted on the Turtle Bay and Beyond blog by Wendy Wright of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute, Kenneth Miller responds to the verdict with serenity and resolve.
“What about all those prayers around the world today that didn’t get answered. Or did they get answered. Brother I say yes, a thousand times YES they got answered,” writes Miller. “For one, I and my family have felt so incredibly lifted up by all those prayers around the world that we are able to be irrationally happy in the middle of a conviction and now a civil action lawsuit.”
“Just after the verdict was read, while we were sitting there trying to absorb it all, [Janet Jenkins’ attorney] Sara Starr, bless her (and I mean that) walked over to the defense table where I was still sitting and served me another thick legal document which charges me along with about 10 other people and organizations with various racketeering etc. charges in regards to Isabella’s disappearance. That should have finished me off, but instead I felt irrationally calm and at peace. Right now I’m just about ready to head off to bed for a good night’s sleep. And I intend to sleep real good.”
Supporters of Kenneth Miller are informing the public about the trial and raising money for his defense at the website Millercase.org.

Will those contributing to Kenneth Miller’s defense later be accused and then sued for aiding in the kidnapping?

A brave and godly man. Many more of us may have to take a stand before this current insane attack on the family runs its course.

But...but...but....I thought homosexuals were born that way, it was in their genetics, that it wasn't just a decision or choice they personally made to become that way. (/s for the LGBT community)

We are at that place where there are so many laws on the books that anyone can be held as a criminal for anything.
Another story of a wronged samaritan I just read which upsets me as much as the above story about the Mennonite pastor:
“Woman Could be Fined $600 for Giving Children Free Lunches”
A woman trying to feed the kids in her neighborhood during the summer may be fined for her good deed. Angela Prattis of Chester Township, outside Philadelphia, has spent the past few months handing out free lunches to the children in her community while they’re home from school for the summer break. The food, supplied by the archdiocese of Philadelphia, helps low-income residents of the township, which has a per capita income of $19,000 a year.
The city council was alerted to Prattis’s free lunches and ruled that if she continues to give away food next summer, she will need a variance or be fined $600 a day. The council says she needs a variance because she’s giving away meals in a residential area, which is a zoning violation. However, if Prattis gets a variance to distribute the food, the administrative fees would cost up to $1,000. The Chester Township City Council has agreed to allow Prattis to continue distributing food for the duration of the summer, but next summer is a whole new battle. Currently, Prattis files paperwork weekly and is visited by a state worker biweekly to ensure she is doing what she says she’s doing.
Prattis, who does not make any money on the meal distribution, says she wanted to help make sure the neighborhood kids received at least one healthy meal a day during the summer. “You have houses here. The roofs are falling in, and they could be focused on a lot more serious issues than me feeding children,” Prattis said of the city council’s ruling.
People on the social news site Reddit are outraged by the ruling. One person said, “A woman is penalized for doing what the government, theoretically, should be doing but aren’t.” Another person wrote, “No good deed goes unpunished.” Prattis told local news crews that she will continue doing her part to help in her community.
I don't doubt that, but I don't think there was ever a time where it would have been legal to transport a minor over state lines & international borders in violation of a court order, or to assist others in doing so.
What this guy did may have been the right thing to do (or it may not have been - there's something to be said for fighting the battle within the law). But it was clearly not a legal thing to do.

I'm thinking that since the kidnapping has already taken place, contributing to his defense can not possibly be construed as contributing to the kidnapping itself.
Had you contributed money prior to the kidnapping with the knowledge that they intended to remove the girl out of harm's way, then possibly.

Reminds me of all the good people who risked there lives and some who gave there lives to keep Jewish children out of the hands of the Nazis. May God help this man and may his time in Prison reach many of the lost behind bars and bring them home to Christ. Amen.

In principle, surely. I think that goes out the window as soon as the court is about to take a child away from its parent and hand it over to a mental deviant to make a political statement. At that point, I wouldn’t keep making a principled stand fighting in the courts, I would grab my kid and get the hell out of the reach of that demented judge. That’s the right thing to do for the kid, and that’s the only thing that is really important.
Very good point about legality and righteous action not necessarily being the same. I guess I lost sight of that. The pastor understood that, I think, and was willing to take accountability for his actions and pay the price, whatever it is.
I think what got me exercised is that we are at the point where our laws and those enforcing the laws are not reflecting the common sense of our Judeo Christian heritage, and the good guys are now all too often found to be on the wrong side of the law.
A hallmark of socialism. Control everything, everywhere; because the People are too stupid to make their own decisions without the "help" of highly-paid government officials.

A couple of things come to mind. I’ve recently been re-reading Jacque Maritain, who makes the point that law must be rooted in morality or it is not law.
Another thing comes to mind, which is Allen West, who violated the rules of engagement in order to save his troops, and then turned himself in willingly to face court-martial.
Another is the case of the young muslim girl a few years ago, who was faced with being repatriated to her home country against her will having become a Christian. Friends helped to hide her and the whole thing became a huge legal case. It only ended when she finally turned 18 and they dropped it.
Then there are the cases of preachers in Canada, Germany, and Scandinavia who have been prosecuted for speaking against homosexuality from the pulpit, and the German parents who were prosecuted for home-schooling their kids.
Sometimes your conscience may force you to act against the law, and when that happens you may have to face the music. You should do it prayerfully, your head held high before men and bowed before God. There is no easy answer, and even your friends may not agree with you when that day comes.
