There is no more misleading imagery than the ad run by Democrats in which a Paul Ryan-looking figure throws Granny off a cliff due to Medicare cuts: (Ad at link)
The ad has it exactly opposite to reality. Republican proposals would keep Medicare the same for people already in the system or 10 years away from entering the system. Nothing would affect Granny, but restructuring would save Medicare for future generations while easing the national debt burden.
**snip**
Mediscare is an age-old Democratic tactic, but this time its different because left as is Medicare goes bankrupt in Grannys lifetime and bursts a ballooning national debt.
Mediscare no longer is about Granny, its about Grannys grandchildren being saddled with crushing debt.
**snip**
The Democratic Party electoral strategy in 2012 asks Grandparents to do something which is not in the natural order, to throw their grandchildren off a fiscal cliff.
Once grandparents understand what they are being asked to do, they will revolt against the Democrats revolting electoral strategy.

I don’t agree, a majority of seniors have proven to be some of the greediest citizens. From the Greatest Generation on down - people have been feed and bred on government entitlements and they love them. They love them so much that they are willing to sell out their kids and their grandkids so that they can maintain the status quo.
Not merely class warfare, generational warfare too.
Whether the majority of retirement-age folks know or acknowledge it or not, the Obamacare provisions have ALREADY stripped away much of the “safety net” they once had with Medicare and to a lesser extent, with Social Security. To continue with Obama in office is to perpetuate this self-immolation of the elderly.
To no benefit of the younger folks either.
:-)
Nice to see that others are catching up to me. I’ve been saying for months now that if the country wants a 4 Trillion Dollar government, then the country should PAY for a 4 Trillion Dollar government. And the ONLY way to do that is to raise taxes on the Middle Class...and BIG TIME.
The alternatives - (1) Cut Spending - but that will not happen, as even the seniors on this site feel they are ENTITLED to the output of my kids and future grand kids work (they call their transfer program Social Security), and the poor and lower middle classes are not about to give up their welfare programs either. (2) Spend the Country Broke - this is DEFINITELY the path we’re on - and we WILL wind up like a Third World nation, once the Chinese (and others) pull the plug. They still have a slight hope that we’ll really try to honor our debts - but once that hope is over, no more freebies, and say hello to hyper-inflation.
Don't say that here. Even on "arch conservative" FR, you will get a ton of responses that seniors paid all their lives for their benefits and that no one should touch them. Its evidence of how screwed we are that even conservatives don't want anyone touching their Social Security and Medicare.
Convince grand kids the only cool option is to vote for Zero.
It is too late. Their grandkids are already affected.
I was in Kroger this morning behind a very obese young woman very casually dressed, separating out her WICs/SNAP purchases to maximize the WICs certificate value (use it all). She then pulled out a Georgia Peach Card (EBT) to pay for the rest.
Finally, when all that was complete, she pulled out her own credit card and told the cashier to give her 3 CARTONs of Marlboro Special Blend (3X$58) $174. We give her money for food - found money - and she spends the rest of what she has on cigarettes. This is a very, very common occurence up here in North Georgia.
According to recent reports, we have 100 million Americans on some sort of government Welfare. This doesn’t include Social Security or Medicare, apparently.
I’ve concluded that under Obama for 4 more years will just grow and metasticize this until it all comes crashing down, and he can then implement what he really wants.
I say everybody should take a look at 1965 and ask themselves if they’re really better off now than they were then.
Most of today’s youth would be suicidal if they were technologically pushed back to 1985. I hate to think how they would feel if the fiscal responsibility were rolled back to 1965 and that isn’t enough.
“Whether the majority of retirement-age folks know or acknowledge it or not, the Obamacare provisions have ALREADY stripped away much of the safety net they once had with Medicare and to a lesser extent, with Social Security.”
You are correct!. However, the problem we face is that grandma and grandpa have not yet felt the effects of Obamacare changes. The legislation deliberately delayed the pain until after the 2012 election. What grandma and grandpa are hearing from the AARP, the mainstream media, and Democrat politicians is that everything is wonderful and the evil Republicans are conspiring to take their earned benefits away and give the money to the rich. Until people actually feel the pain, they will not believe.
The Marxist strategy is brilliant. Use the votes of the grandparents to put a yoke over the shoulders of the grandchildren in 2008 and 2012. Then, after winning in 2012, implement the programs that will wipe out grandma and grandpa. Specifically:
1) Reduce compensation to doctors so they will not take new elderly patients.
2) Add millions of beneficiaries to the total health care system while at the same time implementing policies that reduce the number of physicians. Deliberately create shortages of services and then allocate the available services through the bureaucracy to government favored groups.
3) Push first line of care for the elderly to nurse practitioners and physician assistants who are less able to diagnose life threatening diseases early, when they can be cured.
4) Put age limits on drugs and surgical procedures that extend life or improve the quality of life. Deliberately reduce quality of life for the elderly in order to make step #7 easier to accomplish.
5) Extend waiting times for procedures that are allowing resulting in premature death for those waiting for care (happening in the UK today).
6) Make the appeal process time consuming and confusing so few seniors will even attempt to get care denied by a health care bureaucrat.
7) Use aggressive “end of life counseling” to encourage euthanasia. Given denial of services will mean more seniors will spend their last few years in pain and limited mobility, these wards of the state may be susceptible to caregiver encouragement to take proactive steps to end life. Once the population becomes comfortable with euthanasia, it will be come comfortable with the involuntary termination of the lives of Alzheimer’s patients, patients in comas, and the mentally ill.
8) Increase inheritance taxes to confiscatory levels.
Once fully implemented all of these programs and regulations will have the effect of causing millions of elderly to die prematurely, through denial of services, and will result in poor quality of life for millions of others.
The ultimate goal of the Marxists is to discard formerly productive elderly citizens once they are no longer productive and become a “burden” on the state. This serves to lower government costs (medical care and Social Security) and allows the government to harvest life savings before it is consumed by the retiree. It also serves the Green goal of population control.
Unfortunately, like many Jews in Europe in the 1930’s and 1940’s, today’s senior citizens will not realize what is happening to them until it is too late. What younger person will stand up for the elderly knowing she/he will go on a troublemaker list in the vast health care bureaucracy? After all, who knows when one might need a transplant, a blood transfusion, or expensive cancer drugs a faceless bureaucrat can easily deny?
We’ve created a generation of potential executioners who have little respect for life other than their own and especially little respect for the useless old people who destroyed the earth and are the source of all the world’s bigotry and problems.
Kudos for a fine post.
Have you ever read Vonnegut’s “Welcome to the Monkey House”?
Indeed, he touts death panels to the youth and he touts infanticide for the health benefit of the elderly.
It’s the Marxist Khmer Rouge method, ie. to promote stupid young selfish thinking throughout all spheres, dumbing everyone down, creating the Politicaly correct addled Marxist profile of the insane. This is Hillary’s Sesame Street Village of “everyone is good”.
“Traditional” societies have favored of the continued education of the youth by the elderly’s experience shared, but the bling bling “MArxist miracle” is supposedly free and can do away with that. Of course, that is not true, because it destroys all manners of passing on anything of value, and the bling bling is slavery and a prostitution business.
People voted for Obama for his cutes, and this blind worship of trickle down pimping economics is going to cost.
Seniors would have to be pretty dumb to support the Democrat party that gutted Medicare in favor of Obamacare death panels. Seniors better wake up. A collective communist society gains no benefit prolonging their lives. Under Obamacare, the value of human life will be determined based on cost-benefit analysis for the collective’s “common good.”. All Americans better think long and hard about that.
***Give granny a vicodin, then push her off the cliff. The Obama fix.***
What a waste! Process her into SOYLENT GREEN!
Blood lust.
Nothing but lower class blood lust - gutter snipes... the Chicago way...
Dems pit one generation against another - one class against another...one race against another...in dog fights - fight to the death.
Romeny and Ryan will stop them....
Most seniors view it as their right, and will sell off their children and grand children to get the $.
The basis is fear. Most don’t have the money to live off anything else but SS. The choice is their discomfort, or their (if they have them) grand kids at some future date.
