Held at Palm Coast's Town Center, more than 50 weapons were turned in and exchanged for gift cards to area stores. Deputies even went to people's homes to pick up guns if asked.
Those who set up the program admit most of the people who turned in the firearms aren't criminals.
We're not worried about these people committing the crimes," said Capt. Lynne Catoggio from the Flagler County Sheriff's Office. "We're worried about people breaking into these people's homes, stealing these weapons and then using them in other crimes.

These so-called “Gun Buy Back” programs are among the stupidest and actually harmful things the cops ever do.
They go on the assumption that the less guns the better when Professor Lott has demonstrated clearly that the more guns the less crime.
Of course the cops always claim they are getting them off the streets when that is just another lie they tell. I suspect all of these guns came from closets, attics, storage lockers etc. They are generally worth more than they are giving for them and the poor idiots who turn them in think they are doing the right thing when they are really doing great harm.
Criminals, no - SHEEP, yes.
"We're worried about people breaking into these people's homes, stealing these weapons and then using them in other crimes.
So therefore the innocent must be disarmed. With logic like this...
sad. isnt this how they started in other countries. taking gun rights. Its real nice having armed people saying you dont need guns.
I always think “throw down guns” when I read this stuff...
If I were a criminal looking to rob an AR, I'd pop the cop's trunk while he's away from his car.
Well there is logic here, if they are stupid enough to turn them in they are most likely too stupid to responsibly own one. ;-)
I’d like to buy a gun there , so what do the ciops do with them?
They destroy them, so that demand for new guns increases.
I always think that it would be a good idea to show up at these turn ins and offer a few more dollars cash than the police.
It looks like some of those turned in guns might be worth several hundred dollars each.
I wonder if they are proud of defrauding poor widows who do not know anything about guns of hundreds of dollars worth of property.
I think the third long gun from the right is a BL-22. If so, it is a high end .22 worth about $500.
there are a couple which look decent enough to buy and shoot.
The polcie should auction these off and make money while giving guns to those who have them legally
I don’t see any assault weapons?
This municipality might be a bit more far-sighted and offer discounts on coffins for people who turn in their guns.
All the Palm Coast Yankees elected a sheriff from NYC, Flagler county isn’t really
Florida anymore.
Rifle on the far left is an Ithaca single-shot .22 “saddle rifle”. Hardly a criminal’s first choice of weapon.
“Rifle on the far left is an Ithaca single-shot .22 saddle rifle. Hardly a criminals first choice of weapon.”
That was my first gun at 10. My dad refused to get my brother and me a semi-auto and only let us shoot .22SH too. Until we proved ourselves there would be no semi-autos. Finally did get one at 13.
“I always think that it would be a good idea to show up at these turn ins and offer a few more dollars cash than the police.”
I wonder what the police would do if they saw you horning in on their action. I’d put up a sign just outside the area “We buy GUNS $100 CASH”
