WAUKESHA, Wis.-- The largest crowd of the campaign so far for a Mitt Romney event welcomed home favorite son Rep. Paul Ryan at a massive rally here in the congressman's district Sunday night, pushing the GOP's vice presidential nominee to tears as he took the stage, setting off cheers with two simple words:
"Hi mom."
With that, voice cracking, Ryan showed his Wisconsin credentials to a crowd the Romney campaign hopes will be emblematic of the charismatic congressman's support in the Badger state, a reliably Democratic enclave the Republican candidate hopes to turn red this fall.
"My veins run with cheese, bratwurst, a little Spotted Cow, Leinie's, and some Miller," Ryan said, mentioning two well-known local beers. "I was raised on the Packers, Badgers, Bucks and Brewers. I like to hunt here, I like to fish here, I like to snowmobile here. I even think ice fishing is interesting."
"I'm a Wisconsinite through and through," Ryan said to cheers from a crowd which contained many members of Ryan's extended family, and which the campaign estimated to be more than ten thousand strong, likely the largest turnout ever for a Romney event.
The energy generated by Ryan seemed to inspire the man at the top of ticket, who took on a heckler midway through his own remarks, then turned the moment into an indictment of President Obama's campaign, who's tactics have riled Romney in recent weeks.

I want a Ryan only bumper too, Hoodat. I’ll do some research and get back.
Yeah, now when I hear a pol say they were born and raised in such and such place I start thinking ok, who lived next door to them or who went to school with them.... Lol
For Obama, no neighbors, close family, former classmates or girlfriends.
Scary...
It’s great to have two people running who can speak profoundly without teleprompters.
I am finally feeling good about the Republican ticket! What a crowd. Zero always campaigns to a selected audience, and usually makes them cough up $$ to hear to hear him. (the D-mn Commie)
Also think his nomination will have an effect on Michigan, Indiana and Minnisota. He could be any of our neighbors, friend or family.... Has alot in common with the small town rural midwesterners.
I hope they come to Maine. I know my governor told Obama he’s not welcomed here. He said he would tell Obama “Get the h$ll out of my state” if he comes.
wow
Ryan is not a game changer as far as swinging the election goes. No one Romney could have picked was going sway the election. Ryan might help Romney pick us some extra votes in his own CD (where I understand Ryan is tremendously popular) and put WI in his column if the vote is close. But I do think this is a sign Team Romney feels very good about Florida. If they had any doubt about winning Florida, he would have gone with Rubio.
What Ryan brings to the campaign is he shores up and excites the Conservative base, which Mitten's so desperately needed. This gives a reason for Conservatives to have some hope that maybe, just maybe, a Romney administration might be somewhat Conservative, at least on fiscal policy. And if Romney as President, is successful in turning the economy around and reducing the debt, it very well could mean a Ryan Presidency is on the horizon in 2016 or 2020.
Key now is to not let the scum at Team 0bama define Ryan. Right now Rasmussen has Ryan at 39% favorable / 25% unfavorable. That means 36% (and mostly independents) are not sure on Ryan yet. Ryan will have to win them over before 0bama and his band of roving hordes can destroy him. Hopefully Team Romney is looking back at ‘08 and seeing exactly what happened to Sarah Palin and won't repeat those mistakes.
AS well you should be, I think most people agree with you.
The first time I became aware of Ryan, was when Obama set up that committee on Healthcare and "invited" (lol) the committee to give their imput. Ryan sat across from Obama and made Obama eat dirt, Ryan was relentless in attacking Obamacare. Obama sat and glared at Ryan in complete contempt and disgust, perhaps he even gave Ryan the subtle mid-finger. (not sure on that)
Ryan was the only one on that committee that made me CHEER for him, wow, he don't back down to nobody. Ryan will do us all PROUD.
WI would be a huge pickup for the GOP.

I see some moron says, Obama killed Bin Laden; that’s good enough for me.
If someone reading this has a YouTube account, please reply to that moron:
“Obama didn’t kill Bin Laden. Somebody else made that happen!”
Rennes Templar - excellent screenname! Holy Blood, Holy Grail?
“Harry Reid knows someone who once saw Paul Ryan tear the tag off a mattress.”
That. is. brilliant.
Just amazing!!! Wisconsin turning red??
“You can always tell when its a union crowd or a rent-a-mob crowd because they are too lazy to clap.”
This is a great thread, so many good remarks.
What you say reminds me of an ad that ran for Jon Corzine here in NJ during his re-election campaign. I say the ad ran “for” him because I don’t know if it was his own ad or by another group.
Anyway, it was SUCH a bad ad the first time I saw it I thought it was an oppo ad. I had to run the TV back and watch it again, I really did think it was a sarcastic sort of parody. But no, it was really in support of Corzine.
Obama had come to NJ to campaign on Corzine’s behalf and there were shots of Obama and the crowd. First it showed Corzine standing behind Obama and he looked so small and overlooked, it was weird. Then it showed shots of the crowd and they were just as you say - too lazy to clap. They didn’t even look happy or excited at all. They were listlessly holding signs that said “Obama/Corzine” as if there were some ticket with those two on it.
Truly it was one of the most bizarre ads I’ve ever seen. To this day I can’t believe that several dozen big shot political/advertising types looked at that and said “Yeah, let’s buy air time and run that”.
And we all know the end of the story - LOSERS!
“He took away their mural that was in the State House for ages and hid it on them”
I LOVE HIM for doing that. That commie art has always bothered me, ever since I was a little kid and noticed it on the Rockefeller Center buildings.
Yes, yes, it’s true.
No wonder we are in such a mess, for quite a while there around the turn of the century the commies were treated as sort of cute little monkeys by rich americans, rather than as the vipers they truly are.
Look at Chi-town, basically a hot-bed of communism, right in the middle of the country.
It’s really well done that video. I actually caught a bit of the original song on the radio the other day and liked it. I usually don’t listen to music, so I was pleasantly surprised. It’s funny to find out in this round-a-bout way that’s it’s a hit.
But the video is so good, it has so many good special effects, very professional. I’ve never seen the original song video, I’ll have to look for that. I always like a good parody and this was pretty good, some jabs at the Rs too, but that just makes it funnier to me.
