Romney's Strategy Isn't Working (It's the Conservatism, Stupid!)
Commentary ^ | 8/10/2012 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 08/10/2012 2:39:59 PM PDT by mojito

....The polls suggesting he’s seven or nine points behind are surely wrong, but given that there is only one national poll that shows him ahead, we have to presume Romney is behind. He should presume he’s behind. And given that there’s no good reason whatever for Obama to be leading, one can only presume that Romney’s strategy in July and now in August is not working.

Which is why the “we only talk about the economy” line, while superficially clever, was and is so foolish—stupid, even. Of course Romney wants to focus on that one issue. It’s the one that hurts Obama the most, and the one on which he seems to score the best. He and his team have an idea about the campaign. They need to win independents to win. Independents are less ideological. So don’t press the ideological buttons. Keep it simple....

Romney and his people prefer this strategy because it’s what is most comfortable to them. He is not, at root, an ideological person. Neither, at root, are they. And the data suggest this is not a time for a sharply ideological campaign. The data suggest Romney needs to run as Mr. Fix-It. That is how Romney prefers to view himself. So the two match perfectly.

Alas for him, that’s not how it works. If conservative ideology is a problem with some independents, it also has the virtue of providing those who use it to discuss the nation’s problems with a pulse. Romney has just learned over the past few weeks that he cannot limit the discussion to the topics he wishes to talk about, especially when his rival is spending $100 million trying to destroy him in the swing states and when the media are largely serving his [0bama's] purposes....

Flailing and failing with the Mitten's gang.

Mr. Fix-it needs to get some tools for the mind - they're called "ideas," conservative ideas - and use them to explain the mess we're in to the American public.

But alas, I don't think Mittens has ever had an idea, let alone a conservative one, in all his years in politics.

Every single poll, EVERY SINGLE POLL, except Rasmussen, is NOT surly wrong. Even Fox has Romney down 9. Let’s stop fooling ourselves. Look. I know we are upset, but let’s not stand in the rain and tell ourselves it isn’t raining.

But you are absolutely 100% correct. “It’s the conservatism, stupid”. And Romney is not only ill qualified to run on that, he is utterly inept.

The sooner we face the fact that we have been played by the GOP elite, the sooner we can recover. But if we sit here and spend the next few months saying “the polls are wrong”, well . . .2016 is going to be a replay of this nightmare.

RomneyCARE News from TODAY

"RomneyCare 2.0 With costs rising fast, Massachusetts moves to dictate medical care
Under the plan, all Massachusetts doctors, hospitals and other providers must register
with a new state bureaucracy as a condition of licensure—that is, permission to practice.
They'll be required to track and report their financial performance, price and cost trends,
state-sanctioned quality measures, market share and other metrics."

It's my understanding is Mittens has surrounded himself with a campaign team that's only familiar with MA politics and has no clue on how to appeal to a national audience. Mittens is totally clueless because he has no core beliefs nor does he understand what conservatism is (because everyone around him is a MA lib team of RINOs).

With so many unemployed and gas and heating oil prices these three alone should result in Obama trailing the GOP Candidate by at least 15% nationwide!

Mitt has a language problem, and this is going to be another “Bush is stupid” to “Romney is boring”. We have got a dunce who has not done his ideological homework again, aside from what he would be distributed in colleges from Marxist teachers. Hence he is going to admire his opponents for their knowledge and completely misunderstand the conservatives. Talk about communication skills.

Professionalism and work in the American workplace is going to be thus going out of the window in favor of KGB liberal tactics who are going to use the workplace as their usual favorite political football field and means to snitch for the government, their homosexual “lovers”’ plight pimping them and lawyers.

Not a single LV poll has Obama at 50% or more. Guess what that means? Hint: he’s not ahead.

He’s just not making any ground against a man who by default should be behind at least 15%. If we didn’t know anything about the data and situation of the country we could easily look at the polls between the two candidates and assume the unemployment rate must be around 4.5%

That pretty much says it all. I salute you.

Indeed, for all his faults and distrust, Gingrich knew how to talk the talk and think the think of the conservatives. The RINOs must be thoroughly screwed up to have tried to put forth “their One” instead.

Romney is as dull a candidate as John McCain was, only worse. And he probably doesn’t have the courage to pick a VP candidate who isn’t just as dull and uninspiring as he is himself, so there is not going to be a “Palin bounce” with this guy. I’m not surprised the polls show him getting his butt kicked. Republicans deserve exactly what is happening to them.

Romney is a lousy candidate. Most of us knew this before the primaries. And southern conservatives may just stay home. But it’s who the RINOs wanted and they apparently control the party.

Me too. It should be happening during and between campaigns no matter who is running.

That said, a good candidate can win in a landslide without the going out and rushing to get people registered. A good Conservative who knows how to speak (as Ronald Reagan did) could explain our philosophy to every group from gays to blacks and even those on welfare and win them over.

The truth is most people no matter what group they come from would prefer to make it in life, reach their dreams, succeed and perhaps become rich and be able to call it their own - something they did all by themselves.

There will always be the lazy crowd of course but that group is much smaller than you think if we can separate those who lost faith in the system from those who are just lazy.

With the right candidate who is conservative that is articulate, we can win almost by default.

Don't let Romney's disastrous campaign cause you to vote for Obama. There is another choice - Tom Hoefling.

If you don't like having to choose between the two liberals running in the major parties, consider Tom.

P.S. The major parties won't be the major parties for too much longer.

What solution do you suggest, then?
