~Favorite Weapon's Song's ~
Dean Martin & Ricky Nelson-My rifle, pony and me
The sun is sinking in the west The cattle go down to the stream The redwing settles in the nest It's time for a cowboy to dream
Purple light in the canyons That's where I long to be With my three good companions Just my rifle, pony and me
Gonna hang (gonna hang) my sombrero (my sombrero) On the limb (on the limb) of a tree (of a tree) Coming home (coming home) sweetheart darling (sweetheart darling) Just my rifle, pony and me Just my rifle, my pony and me
(Whippoorwill in the willow Sings a sweet melody Riding to Amarillo) Just my rifle, pony and me No more cows (no more cows) to be roping (to be roping) No more strays will I see Round the bend (round the bend) she'll be waiting (she'll be waiting) For my rifle, pony and me For my rifle, my pony and me

Mack the Knife-Bobby Darin
Oh, the shark, babe, has such teeth, dear And it shows them pearly white Just a jackknife has old MacHeath, babe And he keeps it, ah, out of sight Ya know when that shark bites with his teeth, babe Scarlet billows start to spread Fancy gloves, oh, wears old MacHeath, babe So there's never, never a trace of red Now on the sidewalk, huh, huh, whoo sunny morning, un huh Lies a body just oozin' life, eek And someone's sneakin' 'round the corner Could that someone be Mack the Knife? There's a tugboat, huh, huh, down by the river dontcha know Where a cement bag's just a'drooppin' on down Oh, that cement is just, it's there for the weight, dear Five'll get ya ten old Macky's back in town Now d'ja hear 'bout Louie Miller? He disappeared, babe After drawin' out all his hard-earned cash And now MacHeath spends just like a sailor Could it be our boy's done somethin' rash? Now Jenny Diver, ho, ho, yeah, Sukey Tawdry Ooh, Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown Oh, the line forms on the right, babe Now that Macky's back in town I said Jenny Diver, whoa, Sukey Tawdry Look out to Miss Lotte Lenya and old Lucy Brown Yes, that line forms on the right, babe Now that Macky's back in town..... Look out, old Macky's back!!

There’s the classic “I Fought the Law” in the 1959 original version by the Crickets:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R7elJmji7l4
The original version has the line “robbing people with a zip gun”, which was later changed “robbing people with a six gun” in the Bobby Fuller Four version of 1966:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgtQj8O92eI
Apparently, the “six-gun” reference was more palatable as it made one think of the old west rather than “zip gun” which was connected with teen gangs and juvenile delinquency, which was a big issue in the late 50s.
And, of course, there is the line “I miss my baby and the good fun”, which many say was really “I miss my baby and a good ****”.
Fuller was found dead in his car shortly after the song’s release. The official version was suicide, but there are rumors that he was involved with a woman with Mafia ties.

That’s it!!
The Music Detective Kathy does it in one to take the gold.
It was one of those memories that surface every now and again and hang around a week or two before hibernating.
Now my dilemma. Should I listen to the song or just live with the memory? Hmmmmm. ;>)
Rolling Stones ~ Cops and Robbers

An’ then he said: “You see this rock I got in my hand?
This is a 38 pistol built on a 45 frame
It shoots tombstone bullets an’ a ball and chain!”
Not bad for a fifty plus year old memory.
Two stone=tombstone.
It had to have the Bo Diddley original I heard, too early for the Stones. And never came across their version.

Thank you, fatima, for preparing the Canteen for todays activities.
Can't think of a "favorite."
I'm going with "American Soldier" by Toby Keith
They are our best weapon!

For a real cultural double barrel jolt, see
Red Russian Army Choir & Leningrad Cowboys
Knocking on Heaven’s Door
Can’t provide the regular Youtube link from my Blackberry
but cut & paste from above will get you there using Youtube search.
Balalaikas and the Red Army Choir in uniform coupled with the trippy Leningrad Cowboys is real theater.

Oh, thank you. I was about to ping you on that.
A bit chilling to hear the Red Army Choir sing,
“Mama put my guns in the ground,
I can’t use them anymore.”
