Washington (CNN) - Mitt Romney's unfavorable rating is up, most Americans think the Republican presidential challenger favors the rich, and the public no longer believes that the economy will get better if Romney is elected, according to a new national poll.
But a CNN/ORC International survey released Thursday also indicates that Romney's supporters are increasingly getting behind the presumptive GOP nominee.
It all adds up to a seven point advantage for President Barack Obama over the former Massachusetts governor, with 52% of registered voters questioned in the survey saying that they'd vote to re-elect the president and 45% backing Romney.
"Among independent voters, the poll indicates President Obama has a 53%-42% lead," CNN Polling Director Keating Holland said. "The president holds a nine point advantage among women voters and a smaller six point edge among men."

How’s that liberal Republican working out for ya now GOPe???? This was your wish....now deal with it.
“Mitt Romney’s unfavorable rating is up...”
Well of course they are .. HE MURDERS OLD LADIES!
I call bullsnot on this poll. There is no way that he has a 6 point lead with men. Unless, of course, this survey was done in cities only.
Does anyone remember the polls showing Carter ahead of Reagan a few Weeks before the election? Sure hope it is the same in this election. Also wish it was someone besides Romney.
Has anyone seen the internals? Is this another D+12 poll...
CNN is not a credible source.
They are an arm of the DNC, there is no way they are credible about politics.
Or anything else for that matter.
is this the first time our leader has been over 52%? This makes me sick gag
The only thing good about the mainstream media and their BS is that it has a tendency to make the opposition so mad that they come together to beat the idiots.
The polls are all over the place.
After the recent burtations from the Romney camp supporting gays in the Boy Scouts and the desirability of socialized medicine, I wonder whether there are seven points of difference in governing philosophy.
I decided to hold my nose and support Mitt for these reasons;
He’s not a lawyer.
He’s not a Muslim.
He’s not a communist.
I’m beginning to wonder about that third thing.
No. You deal with it.
Most likely those polled were in Boston or areas like that.
One thing I have to grudgingly give to the dems... they are masters at perpetuating lies about their opponents. Good or evil, or up or down, the pick the narrative and own it. They're just tougher in the trenches in the political world.
To put the poll’s inaccuracy in perspective, 50% say they approve of Obama’s job performance, outpacing long running Gallup and Rasmussen daily polls.
And, 30% of respondents viewed Dingy Harry favorably....although he polls 22% favorable in other polls.
Another question asked if we would be better off with Rats of Republicans controlling congress...rats won 45% to 39%.
Question 7 is a class warfare question about whether or not the candidate ‘favors’ the rich or poor...nice touch.
Since the only criteria for the poll seems to be the ability to fog a mirror (not registered voters), I cannot find the sampling....when oversampling 18 points doesn’t work, just sample people who don’t vote!
Meaningless.
“The CNN poll was conducted by ORC International Tuesday and Wednesday (August 7-8), with 1,010 adults nationwide, including 911 registered voters, questioned by telephone. The survey’s overall sampling error is plus or minus three percentage points.”
No. You deal with it.
Why should I? If anyone is going to deal with it, it is going to be his fans or the ones that wanted him in the first place.
