GOP strategist Ed Rollins, who last ran the early part of Rep. Michele Bachmanns (R-MN) presidential run, told Fox News that his party needs to broaden the base if it wants to suceed into the future and needs to look less like, well, him.
It is a bunch of old, white guys, and unfortunately, a lot of them are fat like me like Haley Barbour, my former deputy, and others, he said.

What the republican party needs are more conservatives....And I don’t care about their age, weight or color!!
Hey, Eddie, I lost 45 pounds since the first of the year. By the end of the year I will complete my time machine and will become 35 years younger.
Who’s old fat and white? Our candidate is not old and fat. Other than McConnell and McCain, I can’t think of any leaders who are. We have a huge bench of younger men and women, many of whom are Hispanic, Indian, and black. We have a TN of highly accomplished governors who are around 40. Walker and Jindal among others. Christie is fat but not old.
Ed rollins is living in 1988.
Code words for: Support Illegal Alien Amnesty, Open Borders, ObamaCare, Homosexual Marraige, Take Away 2d Amendment, No Right-To-Self Defense laws....
Rollins wants the GOP to go Liberal.
Don’t forget West. He doesn’t get much support from the old, fat, rich, white guys.
Ed knows what he is required to say if he wants to continue getting invited on tee vee and collect those checks!
Hes correct.notice how Sarah has been backing many women, Hispanics and blacks.
Mcconnells wife is asian
I’m certainly less two of those things (I’ll let you guess which two); but the question is does the GOP want me?
West is downright offensive to those guys. Like the liberal white guys, they think he is too uppity.
Interesting observation, especially when the Rollins/Rove camp and their followers did ALL they could to ensure DE, NV, CT remained D....and there were a couple other states ‘we’ won despite them.
BTW Ed, the three R’s mentioned above were females and we ended up with Reid and a lyin’ SacOS Blumenthal. With a little support from the Establishment, ‘we’ probably would have had them in our camp....
to go further liberal.
The democrats had Ted Kennedy as an icon for years and years. They also have as a spokesperson Michael Moore. Most importantly, the democrats believe in fat government, and have a tired old political philosophy based on discredited beliefs. Further, if the Republican party put forth as candidates young fit Olympic athletes, of any race or gender, the left would still attack them and try to characterize them as out of touch. Rollins is off base.
Reagan won landslides by promoting principles that made this country great. Of course, the GOP-e always hated Reagan, and only tolerated him because he won elections with coattails. All the GOP-e wants to be is a slightly different version of the Democrats.
Being old, fat and white won’t stop the GOP from pandering and buying votes. It never stopped Ted Kennedy.
You’re 100% correct. You must also remember that Reagan has left this world and so have many of the people who voted for him. It’s a different place now.
A political party's ideology should never be about skin color but the principles that preserve freedom, liberty, and economic prosperity. Fighting for those principles is not a skin color issue but an AMERICAN ISSUE. WE ARE ALL AMERICANS that are struggling economically and fighting for freedom from terrorism. We are not a bunch of separate races trying overcome these obstacles but AMERICANS. The faster you and others learn this the quicker we will be back on the road to true freedom and economic recovery.
Quit trying to conform to the Liberal-Left's ideal of what a Conservative or Republican should be and start standing up for the priciples that illustrate the true differences that separate and distinguish US on the right apart from those the on the left ideology wise. Conservatism wins every time it is tried and should be the show cased not who is doing the talking or thinking.
Ugly men have always been successful.
What we need is leadership. A man with passion for his topic is totally sexy. We need enthusiasm and energy and straight talk.
