Rep. Allen West's Chick-fil-A Treat Gnaws at Black Caucus By Amy Bingham | ABC OTUS News 1 hr 13 mins ago
Members of the Congressional Black Caucus have lunched on their fair share of fried chicken, but when the group's only Republican member, Rep. Allen West of Florida, brought Chick-fil-A for his turn to provide lunch, "every member" of the group was offended, caucus member Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Fla., told the Huffington Post this week.
West provided the now-controversial chicken sandwiches about six months ago, but Hastings' recollection of the delivery carries fresh potency in light of Chick-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy's open support for a "biblical definition" of marriage.
Gay rights activists were incensed by Cathy's statements and staged a boycott of the chicken chain. Although the caucus' Chick-fil-A delivery took place before the recent hullabaloo, Hastings said, he saw it as an "in your face" way for West to make a statement in support of the company's conservative views, which the primarily Democratic group does not share.
"He did it deliberately," Hastings told the Huffington Post Monday. "Every member of the Congressional Black Caucus that was there was offended."
West spokeswoman Angela Melvin said his choice of Chick-fil-A "had nothing to do" with the company's values or stance on marriage.
"He loves Chick-fil-A," Melvin told ABC News. "Catered the event on something that was affordable and what average Americans eat. The fact that Mr. Hastings would turn this into anything else is laughable and desperate."

They were offended before they knew they were offended.
Someone recently said that mentioning Blacks and fried chicken in the same paragraph was a racist statement. Same for watermelon.
If someone mentions Fried Chicken/Watermelon and Honky/White Boy does that constitute a racist statement, or is it high praises for cultural “Diversity”?
Inquiring minds want to know?

hee hee hee They protest too much, obviously liked the meal.
BINGO! You go to the head of the class.
According to my lip reading skills, I think the woman on the extreme right, second row is saying, “I knew he’d win, I knew he’d win, I knew he’d win, etc.” She looks like Elizabeth Montgomery, but that may have been an event before her time.
Nice presentation......appreciate it.
It's retroactive offense.
It is covered under the Congressional Black Caucus' grandfather clause. It allows them to be selectively offended by things that they didn't realize were offensive.
It also allows them to be offended by anyone who uses or used the terms "Black" or "Negro" without acknowledging the irony of the titles, "Congressional Black Caucus" and "United Negro College Fund"
Sun Tzu: “Know your enemy as you know yourself and you may win one hundred battles.”
I didn’t know Col. West was a ‘Red Leg’ (Cannon cocker).
Cool!
BOWLING balls!!!! Please, God, please convince this great American to run for President in 2016, regardless of who wins this year.
:)
I love him too. I’m looking forward to having him as my new congressman. I’m so glad he switched districts.
Thanks for the laugh, it’s priceless.
Go West and go Chick-fil-A!
I have heard from a good source that the members of the CBC would be asking for polynesian sauce and an Arnald Palmer to drink.
I think one can safety say that Col. West is having the time of his life there and loving every day.
I got confused. What is the timeline of the said meeting? I’ve never heard being offended retroactively.
This happened SIX MONTHS ago and Alcee is still having flash-backs? Hilarious! He is blissfully ignorant about how stupid this sounds to normal people.
Allen West is a member; was he offending by the very Chik-fil-A he provided, Mr. Hastings or do you not understand what the word "every" means?
I have to ask: what would the Democrats have to be offended about 6 months ago regarding Chik-fil-A since the marriage flap was in the past month?
You object to, for example, Matt Cvetic of "I Was A Communist For The FBI" fame? Or a DEA agent who joins MS-13?
Isn't it beneficial to have an agent inside your enemy's organization?
West is publicizing the CBC in order to ridicule it.
Used to drive down to Atlantic City and the city put up a historical marker next to the pier shops, and across from the street from Caesar’s. The marker said the area was called “Chicken Bone” beach because the beach was littered with chicken bone by the Negroes who were restricted to the area. Instead of using the episode to show the prejudice and how the population had overcome the restrictions, the City took down the historical marker.............
Was he “forced” to eat the chicken, or did he show he was offended and leave the room? I’ll bet he even drank the sweet tea.
