OBAMA: ROMNEY WANTS VP PETRAEUS
Tue Aug 07 2012 12:01:02 ET
**Exclusive**
President Obama whispered to a top fundraiser this week that he believes GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney wants to name Gen. David Petraeus to the VP slot!
"The president wasn't joking," the insider explains to the DRUDGE REPORT.
A Petraeus drama has been quietly building behind the scenes.
Romney is believed to have secretly met with the four-star general in New Hampshire.
The pick could be a shrewd Romney choice. A cross-party pull. The Obama administration hailed Petraeus as one of history's greatest military strategists. Petraeus was unanimously confirmed as the Director of the CIA by the US Senate 94-0.
But Petraeus has categorically asserted that he has NO political ambitions. And Team Obama stands prepared to tie one of their own to "Bush wars." A Petraeus pick could been seen as simply shuffling the decks of power in DC.
"He's a serious man, for seriously dangerous times," notes a top Republican.
A DRUDGE POLL on Tuesday morning showed readers split on if Romney should give it a go.
And the calendar is running out of days.
Developing...
“Suicidal choice to go with anyone else but Rubio...”
Rubio is NOT a natural born Citizen.
Three types of citizenship are recognized by our government: native born; naturalized; and citizen-by-statute. All have equal rights. All can serve in Congress, either as a Representative in the House, or as a Senator in the Senate.
The above are known as “statutory citizenship” and are defined by law.
The following link will take you to the governments own Immigration Service web page describing the three types of citizenship.
Natural Born Citizen is NOT a type of statutory citizenship as per the Federal Government. Natural Born is ONLY an eligibility requirement for the U.S. Presidency per Article II, Section 1, clause 5, of the U.S. Constitution.
The definition of natural born Citizen is found in the unanimous SCOTUS holding of Minor v. Happersett (1874). Virginia Minor sought to run for President, contending she was a citizen under the 14th Amendment, and the Supreme Court instead classed her as a natural born Citizen, born in the United States of U.S. citizen parents.
No one has the RIGHT to be President. The eligibility requirement of Natural Born Citizenship (jus solis + jus sanguinas: born in the U.S. of U.S. citizen parents) must be viewed as a means to prevent split allegiance for any President of the United States.
The unincorporated territories, including Puerto Rico and the Panama Canal Zone, are not considered part of the United States and those born there have statutory U.S. citizenship only, and are not considered natural born Citizens.
I remember everyone calling him “BeTYAYUS”..... He went to the dark side on something....
Yawn
No on Petraeus. His having accepted a post in this wretched administration taints him forever, IMO. Besides, who knows what his political leanings are, anyway?
Agree
1st, this paints Romney as a war dog, which alienates Ron Paul/anti-war supporters and libertarians in general.
2nd, Romney knows this is negative pressure. It is forcing Romney to reveal his vp choice earlier rather than later, which helps the opposition.
3rd, Why is Drudge doing this?
Agree
I see him as SecDef.
During the White House Press Briefing today, Press Secretary Jay Carney told a reporter to be mindful of your sources when asked about the Drudge Report article reporting that Mitt Romney was considering selecting former Army General and current CIA Director David Petraeus as his running mate.
The report asserted that President Obama privately told a top fundraiser that Romney was considering it.
I can say with absolute confidence, such an assertion has never been uttered by the president. Carney said. And again be mindful of your sources.
Also this: CIA chief Petraeus denies interest in elected office
(Reuters) - CIA director General David Petraeus has no plans to become a candidate for vice president or run for any other elected office, a spokesman for the spy chief said on Tuesday.

Drudge claimed in an "exclusive" report that President Barack Obama this week "whispered to a top fundraiser" that he believed presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney wanted to name Petraeus, a highly decorated former combat commander, as his running mate.
The report said that Romney had secretly met with Petraeus in New Hampshire, an assertion which government officials said was false.

Sounds like a good choice to me if it’s true, he would appeal to veterans, patriots, and Dutch-American voters.
Here’s who Obama thinks will be chosen, for what that’s worth.
Anything that comes from Osama I take with a shaker of salt.
Here’s more VP speculation, this time from Obama himself. I recall Allen West saying that Romney’s running mate should be a veteran.
“Rubio is the only pick that makes sense. He is hispanic, a tea party member, and the future for how the GOP should be.”
I hope better minds persuade Romney pick someone else.
Because I oppose Rubio in some personal or policy position way? No.
I believe Rubio helping to produce Conservative positions and victories in Congress over the next 8 years, from his Senate seat, will be more beneficial to Conservative causes than will he be as a mere VP to Romney. We need him more in the Senate and he and Romney should not put his safe Senate seat at risk at this time. The Senate GOP votes will be slim, even if the GOP can gain a majority in the Senate again, a mere majority will not save us from the RINOS there on some issues. Rubio needs to stay in the Senate. That’s where we need him. Romney CAN win with others on his ticket.
Ping
I support both provisions but I’ve always wondered if the provision that prevents former military from being SecDef until some years have passed and the law they passed after Kennedy made Bobby AG that prevents nepotistic appointments are constitutional.
Democrats hate him and Republicans mentioned him for office as early as 2008. But I don’t think we can know for sure. No one knew if Ike was R or D.
I pray that Mitt Romney does NOT choose Petraeus! That would be a bad move, and there are a few I can think of. Mainly is that Petraeus is not too popular among members of the military. That says it ALL for me!!
