Large fire burning at Chevron refinery in Richmond

RICHMOND -- Crews are responding to a large fire at the Chevron refinery in Richmond.

Flames and at least two large plumes of black smoke are visible from as far away as the Bay Bridge and a shelter in place warning has been issued.

I can see the plume from my front window. I am in San Francisco/Golden Gate Heights. There is a large gray/black cloud over the east bay.

Indeed....there's no way a fire at a facility that processes enormous quantities of flammable liquids and gases could be accidental.

Smoke plume at about 6000/8000ft. all the way to the valley now. Brentwood/Stockton area.

All chevron personnel safe and accounted for. No injuries. I can tell you though, from past experience, there’ll be about 600 surrounding area residents lined up at Kaiser with respitory distress.
